  • Hear this tune played with guitar rhythm backup (slow, medium, fast) starting at 10:38. Guitar chords are provided on-screen.
This is an instructional tutorial 5-string bluegrass banjo lesson teaching my version of "Lonesome Banjo," a tune written by Arnold Watson and recorded on the Doc & Merle Watson album, Home Sweet Home.
On this video I teach the tune lick by lick, phrase by phrase, using on-screen tablature, then I put it together -- slowly at first, then faster toward the end, adding rhythm guitar audio overlay and on-screen chord prompts.
Free tab sheets (PDF) and play-along tracks (MP3) for this and many other tunes are available at my website, www.littlerockbanjo.com.
    Hope you enjoy.
I have posted this teaching video for instructional purposes only and, in my opinion, it constitutes fair use:

Thank you Bill. This is the first song I learned to play on banjo and I finally today was able to play at the highest speed in the video after much practice. Thank you for the free and clear tutorials.

Hi Bill. This was a very well presented lesson. I would appreciate if you could provide the tabs in the exact sequence from beginning to end of the song. I was confused with the repeat of the tabs during the lesson and am not clear on the sequence. Thanks. RK.

I like your teaching style except for when it's time to play all the way through and I can't get continuity from measure to measure. Could you place at least a whole line at a time? And although I love when the instruments come in with you at increasing speeds, I am totally lost because I can't remember each and every note. Again, If I could see at least a whole line at a time, I could have a better chance of following. As it is, I pretty much have to just drop out at the best part.

Go to my website and download and print the tab sheet. It's exactly what is on-screen. That way you can see as much of it at once as you want to. The tab snippets on-screen are mostly for reference.

@@williamanesbitt OK, thanks for the quick response. That sounds like the exact remedy I didn't know, hadn't tried, but desperately needed!
