  • In this video we see the build progressing to brickwork and blockwork up to wall plate. We have to deal wasp nest removal from the roof space in our two storey extension build. Pete demonstrates how to cut bricks by coming up with one of his famous jigs how this works when using a grinder to cut bricks. Tony and Will strip back the roof ready for Tony to then explain How to Set up a Wall Plate for a 300mm cavity wall to an existing 9" wall. He explains in detail measuring and cutting a wall plate for the top of the blockwork. He demonstrates how to cut a halving joint and how this half lap joint forms the corners of the wall plate.
    TOOLS USED :
    Bahco 22" Saw amzn.to/3pB4FJa
    PLEASE NOTE: we’ll endeavour to answer questions and comments as soon as possible depending on our work schedules.

    I really enjoy these videos. I cut roofs on for a builder that, every single time, makes the extension wall plates the same height as the old 9" wall plate, even when I keep telling him to give me a shout before he gets up to plate height so I can come and set it up for him. 😣 I've said it before Tony, you've got an almost perfectly linear sawing action. (and thanks for the tip in the last video about the gasket under the joists on the Ytongs. I found the technical PDF and its as you said). 😎Cheers. Del.

    Nice bit of work there Pal 👍, the original fascia Board on the main house is in a bad way , looks like someone replaced it over the years and just nailed a timber to it and covered it with pvc, never cut back the rafter to allow for the overhang into the gutter, it's amazing the way some of those aluminium and gutter firms do work like that and get away with it, I mean the people in the house think they are getting a great job done when they're fascia and soffit has been destroyed over the years because of the water ingress.

      Hi Am AM I do hear this a lot about roofs, for me I have to break it down in my head try not to over think it keep to the golden rules both plumb cuts the same, seat cut always 90degree to the plumb cut and don’t change half way through, Dan Cox square is a cracking bit of kit and is very easy to use and make cuts from and cuts the amount of processes down plus gives you a chart, once lock down has finished I’am going to organise an event with Dan in a huge open hanger and spend a weekend showing anyone who wants to learn the process of a roof all the best Tony 👍 have a awesome weekend

    • @Miff...
      @Miff... 3 года назад +1

      he either forgot the original measurement or more likely just deducted 5mm so when the new wall plate butted up against the old house any lumps and bumps wouldn't push the timber past the outer edge of the blockwork!

      Hi Kevin the best way I find and taught find the straightest rafter cast your eye across them, tap a nail in the top side plane of the rafter then drop a plumb Bob line and use the bevel then this can be transferred to a off cut of 6 x 2 timber old boy used to say to me take three readings and see what the average is it’s never failed me yet, there many ways you can do this but I like the old simple way all the best Tony 👍 have a awesome weekend

    @6:24 Why would you even say 245mm? you should be looking at and saying 172mm !!! Your argument about powered saw is weak..... you are two generations behind because most people use battery saws now and they take zero setup time but save hours (depending on # of cuts). @8:02 and tell me why you waste so much timber? sure make the edges true but you could easily have moved the line up 30cm - you never know when you need a piece of timber and the longer the off cut the more chance it will be useful.... Again, you are great a doing your work and your work is accurate but it could be a lot smarter and by working smarter you will save both time and money. You are in some way like a apprentice, you just need to be taught how to do things better.
