Peugeot and Renault cars were sold in African versions with harder suspensions, a protection plate under the engine, better filters, when the only 4x4 was the Land Rover. It was right before the Land Cruiser and all the standard Japanese cars came to flood the African market It was possible with these cars, to go really fast on the African roads, make real big jumps etc, without damaging anything. If I recall correctly, it's these "African" versions that were sold also in Australia at the times?
