- Under 1960-talet vann Peugeot 404 Safarirallyt fyra gånger. Här är min kärleksförklaring till Frankrikes variant av Volvo Amazon. / During the 60´s Peugeot 404 won the East African Safari Rallye four times. This is my loveletter to the car.

Kul att se både bilen, hade själv en i samma kulör från 1963 och enpetaren som stod framför. En sån hade jag också på 70-talet. Kul för minnet att se alla former man känner igen.

The 404 were strong and powerfull enough to compete with other cars.It wasn't manufactured for racing or sport activities however the front Mcpherson suspension and the design of the compact chassis gave it enough tools to get fun in racing or motoring. My 404 is still racing in Argentina and will keep giving fun to me for years to come..

my late father's favourites. he owned two 403 p/ups, a 404 p/up and a 404 j7 p/up which was double cabin. i miss those days

Why is the driver on the left side - Kenya (where the Safari Rally is held) is right hand drive like the UK. Whats going on here?
The owner comments the car was imported from Sweden.
How was the engine different from the standard engine? How come it sounds more powerful?
Aman, I believe that Marshalls just " blue printed " the standard engine and built it very carefully with better balancing to get a few extra bhp. I'm a bit suspicious of that exhaust note as I've never heard a 404 sound like that.
That sound is just added - not the original engine sound.

My Father was MD of Ta,ganyika Motors Dar es Saleam who prepared thus car for rallying!! I have photis of it a,d Bert Shankalnd tiook me for several drives in it!!!!
Christopher Feeney I remember your dad Jimmy Feeney very well and can remember the days he rallied a Peugeot 203 in the Safari in 1959.

azerty qwerty mon père en avait une qui est morte rouillée de partout alors qu’elle était bichonnée .. 130 Max et tenue de route catastrophique. Par rapport aux voitures françaises maintenant y a pas photo. Ce n’était pas mieux avant .. non !

I can't understand why they put huge spotlights covering most of the grill thus restricting air flow to the radiator. Especially while rallying in the heat of Africa.............
tommyau2006 the last problem that you can find in a 404 is a refrigeration problem! be sure that the engineers thought about! here in Argentina, when we used to prepare this cars for rally, we used to add more capacity to the oil system to help the watercooling system...
