Today is one of the saddest days in rock and beyond. We lost a musician, a singer, one tough hombre, a legend and a hero. Thank you for all that you have given us all these decades. RIP Dusty Hill May 19, 1949 - Jul 28, 2021 We love you and you will be sorely missed.
Yeah this next decade and next few years are going to be rough n tumble for the rock n roll community and fans when the icons and classic acts bands and artists who are going to pass on playing the great venue beyond. It’s going to be weird tho when there’s like no Beatles alive or no Stones or any of a large number of bands and artist, thankfully we got to live and for many see these artists live in concert. ZZ Top was obv a favorite live show-Long live Rock!
It's raining here in Ohio today, I truly believe it's not rain but tears from heaven for the late great Dusty Hill. It's a sad day in the rock and roll world. I'm watching some of the best musicians that made the soundtrack to my life pass away too soon. Rip Brother
I to am in Ohio and yes indeed I do believe it's tears from Heaven for Dusty, it's a sad sad day. A legendary man and base player is missing from the line up of excellent musicians. R.I.P. Dusty Hill.
@Stephen Beck-von-Peccoz Yeah, but have you seen Elwood play, no stage presence. Billy is lost without him, sure he can play the music but that alone is not the Top we know and grew up with. I know everything comes to a change, I guess we will have to wait and see.
I love ZZ Top - you used to play at the Dixie Chicken & Chicken Oil Company in Bryan- College Station at around the same time as Lyle Lovett. That place was our hang-out place. I worked in an office building across the highway from Chicken Oil. It was great seeing y’all back then. Next, I saw you after the Fabulous Thunderbirds before the Rolling Stones at the Dallas Football Stadium where the Cowboys played football!!! Awesome!!! You guys are amazing. RIP Dusty - gone way too soon. Frank & Billy - keep rockin’!!!
First time I saw ZZ Top was when I was a young USAF Airman stationed at Dyess AFB, Texas in the very early 1971. Not much to do in Abilene but get drunk, smoke, and party. Well, someone from our Air Force group of party animals at Dyess told us that there was good local band from Houston that was going to play at the Abilene High School. We didn’t know the name of the band but we went just for something to do on that Friday night. Well, ZZ Top came out on that small high school band, dressed in jeans and sweat shirts with arms cut off. They rocked that place down big time. We all knew that this new band had the sound and we all thought and knew that they were going to make it big in the future.
What impressed us the most was that there was no fancy light show, just 3 guys playing their heart out for the audience. A few years later in 1974, our same group of party animals went to see them at their annual concert at the University of Texas Austin football filed. It was an outdoor concert with around 90,000 in attendance. They had ZZ Top, Santana, Bad Company, and Joe cocker at that 12-hour outdoor concert. ZZ top was the headliner. This time they came out on stage in white sequined sparkling suits instead of jeans and sweatshirt but they still played just as good or even better than the first time we had seen them before they became popular worldwide. Being at the high school concert in 1971 was like being part of ZZ Top history. I’m now 71 years old retired USAF, Vietnam Veteran, and still listen and rock with ZZ TOP music!
I loved ZZ Top when I first heard them. That was a cassette tape I found walking home from school. A few years later, Navy boot camp. We had just been issued our summer white uniforms. Someone managed to get a boom box and then... 80 guys dancing around in their dress whites to A Smart Dressed Man. It was awesome. Carry on gentlemen, caught you in concert here in Virginia a few years ago.
I'm crying right now...for Dusty...I'm sure I'm not the only one ..tears of love for a great person and awesome bassman..every day I miss Mr Dusty Hill.. of the ZZ Top..
Rest in peace to the late great Dusty Hill your memory will always live on through ZZ top he was a great bassist songwriter singer they'll never be another Dusty Hill as a fan I'll always will love ZZ top and respect not only Billy gibbons and Frank beard and especially Dusty as a fan on sad I'm shocked they have sold millions of records they have won plenty of awards and they're in the Rock and roll Hall of Fame where they deserve to be and they always will be part of Texas. they always will be a part of blues Rock. and part of pop culture. as fans we appreciate you Dusty and ZZ top for all of you guys done for music.
I couldn't have said it better.i grew up listening to ZZ TOP and they proved that You could play badass ROCK AND ROLL WITH JUST 3 PEOPLE. RIP DUSTY HILL!!!
I was so lucky being a young boy growing up in the 80’s when so many quality bands were exploding- ZZ Top, Dire Straits, Def Leppard, Guns n Roses, Bon Jovi etc. It was such a great time to be alive. And they are still my favourite bands today all these years later
Seen them in concert three times: Great Fall, MT('79) and twice in Jackson, MS. They never disappoint. And you 261 people who gave this a Thumbs Down, y'all are beyond hope.
WELL....HELL........there goes another irreplaceable rock n roll genius who lit up my musical night sky.....rest in peace Dusty.....can't tell you how much you will be missed.....!!!!!!!!
I’ve seen them many times in many places - coolest time ever in a small venue in Portland, OR, they brought my then 4 year old son up on stage - huge memory and they were all so gracious, was looking forward to seeing them again in Vegas in the fall but it will be hard to see them without Dusty, but will in his memory and to support Billy and Frank. Hope your back is getting better Frank, it hurts me to see how much pain you’re in. RIP Dusty.

ZZ TOP has been my favorite band since they began! In the early 90s I had a life sized cardboard cutout of them and for YEARS they were my "Christmas tree" with lights & tinsel 😆 RIP DUSTY💔 You will be sorely missed
Met these guys on the road during their antenna tour. Gave Harley escort thru downtown Omaha to the civic center. Had a silver pan head with black flames. Billy wanted to sit on my bike to check it out. They gave us all access backstage passes. Great summer and great bunch of guys! Best band ever! Long live the Republic of Texas!
Yeah, the got huge in the 80s with MTV and their "look" and a lot of great tunes but I always go back to RG Mud and Tres. Got to seem them play those songs at Winterland in SF '74 (they were second on the bill under Steve Miller!) Billy didn't even have a beard yet. They jammed with intensity like I have never seen exceeded.
Loved these fellas the first time I heard em back in 1977 and love em even more to this day. They respect the roots and history of the music they love and are great ambassadors for the state of Texas, and the many genres of music enjoyed in the South, actually within our Nation.

@Vermon D.P. Good music transcends borders. I'm not American, studied classical clarinette for 13 years, own a couple of classic French cars. In my opinion ZZtop's music has an appeal not only for Americans, it's just good honest music.
In the words of another great Texan, coming from an Arkie , Heaven done called another Blues Slinger back home.just think ,I bet Dusty and Johnny are jamming now
im a yank in australia, saw z.z. in a venue of 1500 peoplein sydney..never thought id see them ever but am glad I got to see them always as ever on Top of thier game an never letting thier fans down by thier showmanship like no other then texas pride...love z.z. im a mtv eara baby and they always been thier in my life.
I saw them in Birmingham, ALABAMA I believe in 1985 .... the Afterburner Tour and they kicked some serious ass!!!! RIP Dusty ..... I'm sure you are hanging with some mighty serious guitar pickin fellas up there.
Ahh man Good ole daze, cranking up my Alpine car sterio in my 55 chevy Belair my Dad found for me ( just like his 55 chevy Belair )and All 400 watts of ZZTop Greatest Hits Blasting my city streets thru my cars 4 6x9 MindBlower Amplifyed car speakers , perfect combination back in my freshman year of 1972, I cant Drive 55 ! ! ! THANKYOU ZZTop little ole band from texas seen them in concert twice in San Antonio and once in Austin Texas My Alltime Favorite Music
As a much younger man I was a huge ZZ Top fan. I still have all their albums. When I could still play guitar I played all their songs. I saw them live twice. Once in 1976 and once in 1995.
One of the best bands in concert that ever got on the stage. I miss the old days, when ordinary people could get concert tickets for less than hundreds of dollars, and even pick your seats!
Billy Gibbons lives here in Boise, Idaho. Has his very own guitar shop here and he built a couple Harley V-Twin guitars for our local harley shop, they are amazing! Got to meet him at a blues show over his and mine love of BEARDS! Yes, I too, have a ZZ TOP BEARD! The dude is just amazing himself!!!
When my friend ordered a key chain in the early 80's, I was a little bit jealous. I'm sure he still has that ZZ TOP key chain. Man... just sad about Dusty. It's like I'm lost. Condolences to the family and friends
My favorite band ever. And I have never seen them in concert. This covid thing has taught me to stop putting off things you want to do...things you love! Im gonna see these boys! I love em
Sluffing school blasted Fandango on friends rich parents fine stereo system ,drank whisky out of their bowling pin ceramic trophies.Rolled pinners with paper from the Bible in the fireplace.ZZ Top blasting.Called the Highschool in town over ordered up 3 guys.1975.Got busted cause stereo echoed up the street. But, nobody was home. Damn kids !
Jills Mcfarland Hahahahaha! Dude! I rolled joints with pages from the Bible too! I thought I was the only one that had done that! Only I used the fly leaf pages with no words on it. Somehow that made me not feel so bad about it. Lol!

In 1989 my parents offered me my first ever CD , that was Dire Straits's brothers in arms. My brother received Eliminator ! Those two CDs are my youth !! I am 43 now and yesterday I was at their 50 year tour celebration in Brussels. That was awesome. Really !!?
Billy Gibbons ....... damn !!!!! Legit bluesman. Hendricks, Allman, Vaughn, Beck, Clapton, Page, Taylor ....... they all owe a debt of gratitude to Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters. They all stand on their shoulders.
Man I was going to a job and stopped at a convenient store to get gas (I live in Seabrook tx) and a Mercedes pulled in next to me at the gas pump. Dude has a long beard and I asked him if he played in ZZ Top, he said sometimes. I talked to that dude for about 5 minutes. This was Dusty the bass player. He asked me what I was up to, I told him I was going to work and he said me too. Well I pulled out before him but he passed me down the road and when he did he double tapped his horn in acknowledgment of me. The dude is such a regular guy that he just happens to play in a huge band. The guy is so nice and down to earth. I don’t know him but from that conversation, I can’t say anything bad about him
@@billgross2097 Only in Houston - Actually did that to Billy in a bar about 20 years ago - He lives in the neighborhood - used to see him in traffic or around every now and then - I haven't seen him around in years. Same with Frank Twins
Around 89 I was at a car show in Des Moine Iowa seen a guy with a baseball hat on it said el loco we struck up a long converstion you know who it was ,the good Rev, B he shared a beer we talked for about 1/2 hour he explained about the Elim. album concept it sounded good to me and he had to be in LA the next week to shore everything up 2 yrs late ran into him and the rest is RR history just a great down to earth guy!!
Frank's my mother-in-law's cousin... loved ZZTop since I first heard them back in the early 80's... they even played at my old high school's prom back in the day!
*I met Frank Beard and ZZ Top's road manager at the Holiday Inn Indianapolis. It was 1975 during the Fandango tour, they gave me my first Texas Tall boy beer. They gave me all their pictures and autographs and i got to go their concert and party. They treated me like a little brother, and i was laughing at Frank and he said what's so funny son. And i said how crazy is it that your the only one without a beard and yet thats your last name? I never got to play Billys Guitar but they were all so good to me, i will never forget that moment in time*
that little ole band from texas the fabulous ZZ TOP billy gibbons dusty hill & frank beard the blues had a baby and they named it ZZ TOP! thank you texas thank you ZZ TOP!
All the great music comes from that big ole state we call Texas. Born and raised in Dallas and spent many weekends in Austin. I grew up loving rock'n roll and met some Oklahoma boys introduced me to country. I have always loved the blues. There's just so much talent and music in Texas!!! Absolutely love these guys. ZZ Top isnmy husbands favorite band. Seen them many times and their car. I swear Sharp Dressed Man was written about him...He thinks so too!! I am so proud I was blessed to live in this great state. King George is the pride of Texas. God Bless Texas!

The great humor of ZZ Top. The puberty cracking of Gibbons voice topped with politically incorrect lyrics (ace of spades! Yikes). This is one song we will NEVER hear on any of the airwaves.
If he got credit from Jimi then its clear he is special ! But its true Billy have this mojo touch it make me feel high just to hear it, he is def there with legends, Jimi was absolutely right !!
I believe Jimi stated the above on the Dick Cavett Show. Billy was in a band before ZZ top called the Moving Sidewalks, they opened for Jimi Hendrix and the Experience in '68. Jimi and Billy were staying in a hotel and had opposing rooms. Billy talks in an Interview with Marc Maron about how Jimi showed him tricks on the guitar and that they would swap licks! He really did dig Billy's style. Really cool stuff!
My soul hurts. I was very fortunate in my life to have spent time with these guys when i was a kid and as i got older. It didnt matter if i saw them play the night before or earlier that day they infect your mind body and soul with their sound their energy. No matter how tough things could be in your life they have the ability to lift you up. If you are on top of the world they will take you higher. Dusty you are loved respected and will be missed. Rev and Frank you stick around please. The world isnt ready to let you guys go.
*I attended the private event when they received "the Key to the City, Memphis, Tennessee"* - that was about 1990 in the Skyway, Roof of The Peabody Hotel, Memphis, TN. These guys are Stars in their Business, Period. My late Brother-n-Law was Chairman of the Memphis/Shelby County Commission. Blessed to have had him in my life. *Great Man and Great Soul* Florence, Alabama That area has hosted unbelievable Artists recording music. Muscle Schoals, Killen, Sheffield ... Aretha comes to mind.
To Mr.Beard, and Mr.Gibbons, (Dusty Hill too). you guys have been a huge influence on me as a musician, and guitar/bass player. thank you for all the years of Rock n Roll.
THE BEST THREE MAN BAND FROM MY FAVORITE STATE BESIDES ALABAMA AUSTIN TEXAS.I GOT TO SEE ZZ TOP IN AUSTIN TX IN 1979. THESE THREE GUYS CAN ROCK THE HOUSE IN TEXAS. Velcro fly forever. Heard it on the x, legs tube snake boogie, party on the patio, pearle neckle, my head in Mississippi, shape dressed man. I loved when they was on 2 half men. Rest in peace dusty hill
ZZ Top played at my friends dads high school prom in 1971. Little Cypress - Mauriceville High school in Orange, TX. They agreed to play weeks before they got real successful. They tried to back out but the school couldn't get anyone else so they agreed to honor their commitment. The school had about 100 students but over 2000 showed up.
I once heard that the guitarist had a problem and could not play they ask Gibbons who he was going to hire and he said no one Beard is the drummer when he is ready we will continue that is a class act
Dear gawd almighty - first time hearing them speak and Frank sounds like a purring panther! I’m from the Scottish highlands and I love a Texas accent. You boys, (and girls), sound amazing!
The pink baseball cap era was kinda weird but they are the real deal!! Frank’s drumming on those first four or five albums is amazing! A grooving, shuffling machine!!😎
Thanks for uploading Very serious , and very professional great musicians . Billy Gibbons is one of the very best guitar players . His slide work on " Tush " is eternal, and phenomenal , one of the greatest slide pieces that there ever was and that there ever will be , if not the greatest . ZZ TOP. So underrated. true artists.timeless sound and style .
Pretty sure they may have been in Edmonton Colesium a few years back and had 2 drummers.
Greg how the hell are they underrated? They are one of the best bands that ever lived !
Underrated? Maybe by millenials who wouldn’t know great music if they heard it. ZZ Top widely recognized as one of the world’s top bands of all time.

@@70mjc Because hopefully by stating my ethnic background it helps to dispel stereotypes still carried by some people. I am 60 yrs and am sometimes saddened by opinions that are still held.
@Vermon D.P. Good music transcends borders. I'm not American, studied classical clarinette for 13 years, own a couple of classic French cars. In my opinion ZZtop's music has an appeal not only for Americans, it's just good honest music.
In the words of another great Texan, coming from an Arkie , Heaven done called another Blues Slinger back home.just think ,I bet Dusty and Johnny are jamming now
@@70mjc
Pure insanity isn't it.
Hard to think MTV used to bring us great music like this and now it's 16 and pregnant .
Haha now that's funny!

Very much missed! One of my favorite bands.
I remember cruising in my 82 Monte Carlo...jamming I'm bad...in nationwide.....love that song...miss that car too...I had it looking sweet!!!
Thanks for sharing, these 3 seem like really humble Texans! 👍
Long live the original ZZ Top trio!
I love ZZ Top. I go see them whenever they pass through the Minneapolis St Paul area. Always a great show.
Paul Brown that would be news to Billy that he lived in Boise......just sayin........
I imagine Billy Gibbons has several homes.
everytime I take a road trip Tejas is playing. thanks guys !!! Texas rocks !!!
8:34 "I started singing when I was about 8th grade, with my brother Rocky" LMAO! Their parents had a great sense of humor.
I became a ZZTop fan when I was 11 years old and their Eliminator album blew up. I have only grown to love their music and them more over the years.
so did i, my father was a harley freak and there was always zztop, highlander and metallica playing since i was born, no regrets ;)
When my friend ordered a key chain in the early 80's, I was a little bit jealous. I'm sure he still has that ZZ TOP key chain. Man... just sad about Dusty. It's like I'm lost. Condolences to the family and friends
Love the music and unique voices. R.I.P. Dusty Hill!
wow,
gone too soon
My favorite band ever. And I have never seen them in concert. This covid thing has taught me to stop putting off things you want to do...things you love! Im gonna see these boys! I love em
I was twelve years old in 1972 when I first heard ZZ Top
Been a fan ever since...........no more words needed
Lol!
I too I am a fan,for 51 years now! Lagrange came out in 1973, coincidentally, the same here I got my driving license. Always loved this band!!

I learned my first spanish word"puta " from mexican blackbird when i bought the Fandango album in 1975
My first ZZ TOP concert was the eliminator tour, then afterburner.last saw them in 2016.They always put on an AWESOME SHOW
In 1989 my parents offered me my first ever CD , that was Dire Straits's brothers in arms.
My brother received Eliminator !
Those two CDs are my youth !! I am 43 now and yesterday I was at their 50 year tour celebration in Brussels.
That was awesome. Really !!?
I love this band sooooo much ! Why doesn't the current music scene sound anything like this.....
I just gotta keep living in the past I guess
@J Slikbeer I hear ya !
Great group, great music. RIP Dusty Hill.
Billy is why I learned/still learning to play guitar...and met him n got his X on my hat in 1991, dats my boy
I don’t know him but from that conversation, I can’t say anything bad about him
Do you ask everyone with a long beard if they're in ZZTop?
@@billgross2097 Only in Houston - Actually did that to Billy in a bar about 20 years ago - He lives in the neighborhood - used to see him in traffic or around every now and then - I haven't seen him around in years. Same with Frank Twins
Good on ya, man. .. awesome
I love to hear stories like yours. Thanks for sharing it.
First time I saw ZZ Top play was at Winterland in San Francisco in 1972. Great show, clean shaven....
Definitely the coolest band of all time.
I never got to play Billys Guitar but they were all so good to me, i will never forget that moment in time*
Awesome man!
that little ole band from texas the fabulous ZZ TOP billy gibbons dusty hill & frank beard the blues had a baby and they named it ZZ TOP! thank you texas thank you ZZ TOP!
ZZ Top
All the great music comes from that big ole state we call Texas. Born and raised in Dallas and spent many weekends in Austin. I grew up loving rock'n roll and met some Oklahoma boys introduced me to country. I have always loved the blues. There's just so much talent and music in Texas!!! Absolutely love these guys. ZZ Top isnmy husbands favorite band. Seen them many times and their car. I swear Sharp Dressed Man was written about him...He thinks so too!! I am so proud I was blessed to live in this great state. King George is the pride of Texas. God Bless Texas!
Jim Blues your welcome
I'm a black guy, born in N Carolina, raised in Pittsburgh Pa. I remember being in junior high in 72-73 and starting to see this graffitti for "ZZTop'. "What is ZZTop?" I pronounced it like 'stop' but with a 'z'. The kids said a new group in Texas. I started paying real attention with LaGrange and Tush. Summer of 76 they came to Pittsburgh on the World Wide Texas Tour with Aerosmith , featuring Point Blank. Badass show. I went to college then joined the army. Exactly ten years later I saw them in Munich in 1986, different, but for me just as awesome. I did not understand why i liked them so much until I found out about their Blues roots. Then it all made since. Still lov'em to this day.
Cool guys with super nice music.
R.I.P. Dusty...you'll never be forgotten.
Mexican Blackbird is one of my favorite songs!
The great humor of ZZ Top. The puberty cracking of Gibbons voice topped with politically incorrect lyrics (ace of spades! Yikes). This is one song we will NEVER hear on any of the airwaves.
her moma waa mexcan and her daddy was an ace of spades
They also use the Mexican word for slut in that song lol.@@Harry-wt1pi
Head that ol chrysler down to ol mexico
nobody cares
I NEVER GET TIRED OF HEARING THEIR STORY~~~
OR OF LISTENING TO THEIR MUSIC!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I LOVE ZZ
One of my good friends lived across the street from Frank when we were in HS in the 80’s. We would see them all the time, cool cars, cool guys.
Thank you for sharing?
I met Billy Gibbons in the Europapark 2017...a very smpathic man and great musicman...with beard...so we made nice fotos...greetings
Jimi Hendrix once stated, "I'm not the greatest," there's a new dude with a style I can dig names Billy Gibbons, watch out for this cat.
Breck Kitts That is so cool !
Hendrix said the same thing about Rory Gallagher when asked the same question by a reporter for daily mail!!!
+Mark Wright Hendrix supposedly said his favorite guitarist was Terry Kath, the late Guitarist for the band Chicago...
Thanks Dusty...and Frank, and Billy for all the kick ass tunes. Your music will live forever...
ZZ Top has been my favorite band since the very early '80s... They're just OUTstanding...
They were great in the 70s
*Great Man and Great Soul*
Florence, Alabama
That area has hosted unbelievable Artists recording music. Muscle Schoals, Killen, Sheffield ... Aretha comes to mind.
Ive seen them since i was a kid, im 64 and their still listened to in my house.
To Mr.Beard, and Mr.Gibbons, (Dusty Hill too). you guys have been a huge influence on me as a musician, and guitar/bass player. thank you for all the years of Rock n Roll.

Biggest, best sound out of a band! Been listening from the 70's.... keep rockin!
My most favorite band by a long way!
Jesus just left Chicago and went down to Texas with a prayer.
I've been listening to these guys since La Grange and I just won tickets to see them in Tampa, FL! I can't wait!
It was not the guitarist it was the the drummer sorry
I have love these guys scene the early 80's the greatest band
When I was young ,, I could never get over their song called " Blue jean Blues . ""
