  • Sometimes, the stuff you've assumed for years turns out to be wrong. I've ignored or hated several weapons over the years that I'm just now realizing I actually like using. While it is unfortunate that these items managed to slip through the cracks, it is super cool that TF2 still has things to offer me all of these years! And who knows, maybe there are several I still dislike that I'll eventually move up a few tiers in my mental tier list!

    Like similar videos I've made in the past, this was a smaller side project that I wanted to make to one, share my opinions on weapons I've started to find fun recently, and two, have an excuse to use those fun weapons for a video. Hopefully stuff like this is enjoyable!

    The YER is such a good knife. For years the fact no one noticed that you can just bounce disguises with no audio cues was BUSTED.

      for years it was TERRIBLE because you couldnt disguise at all without getting a stab undisguised. but now it's at least usable, no thanks to the 30% extra cloak drain. its so fun

      Oddly enough, I love enemy Spies using the YER because whenever they kill with it, there's no screaming to muffle the stab of the knife or the suspicious flop of the body. It's distinct enough to make up for being quieter.

    10:40 Fun fact, the knife actually has a special effect where stabbing someone who is being healed by a medic automatically puts the beam onto the spy who backstabbed them.

      @@torgerthorkildson725 it only mutes the crit sound and death scream, you can still hear the knife swinging and swabbing and if you're aware that a YER spy is around it definitely sticks out when there isn't much else happening

    Air Strike + Base Jumper is used less might be because of people feeling that they die more easily because of being a slow falling target. Also, the Direct Hit exists.

      Meanwhile, a lot of bigger air strike fans like me like to equip something other than the base jumper simply because it can often be overkill, given that bombing someone like with any other launcher is even more effective than using said launchers by default. Except maybe beggar's, which is the other rocket launcher I use sometimes. Personally, I find the air strike pairs well with the panic attack because the quick switch speed in combination with how quickly you can empty your clip with the air strike can lead to insane burst damage and multikills when landing in a group

      Also the damage fall-off of rockets is distance based, staying high up in the air reduces the damage your rockets will do. Mind you, you don't HAVE to stay up in the stratosphere, you can try get closer first before deploying it and still give yourself more time to launch your salvo; but it is an inherent contradiction with the weapon combo you have to compensate for.

      Just use the gunboats people, i promise you, you have enough time to spam those rockets. Just aim at people as you fall in their direction. Also, you can still spam for a short time after you hit the ground... no base jumper needed, plus gunboats will just make you mobile as fuck. It's fun!

    2:55 this clip sends me every time, the soldier instinctively airstrafing off of the fan hit into another player, and then instinctively firing his launcher at them, blowing himself up

    The Loch-N-Load should have stayed a 2-shot weapon with +25% extra projectile speed and 20% extra damage against everything.

      to me it always seemed like a poor attempt to give demoman a direct hit.
      it has faster projectiles and it needs you to land direct hits to do actual damage, difference being that the downsides on the direct hit aren't as severe as it at least still explodes when it hits a wall, even if the blast radius is reduced, and the upsides are stronger since it does extra damage to everything and gets mini crits on explosive jumping enemies.
      the loch-n-load however is just a straight down grade, the pipes whiff if you miss, the explosion radius is reduced when you hit and they don't even reward you with extra damage.
      the extra damage to buildings also doesn't really matter to demo because the sticky launcher is the preferred anti building weapon anyway.
      plus the direct hit gives you 80% speed, not just 25%.

      @@radiant_peace8457 that would be too OP bruh, Direct hit can one shot light class at close range but giving Loch'n'load the same ability to one shot light class but at any range is way too insane, considering how pipes don't have fall-offs on direct hit

    The thing no one talks about when talking about the YER is that its better for dealing with large groups of enemies, whearas a normal stab would make a loud noise and usually result in your death, the YER silently just takes them out without a problem, another thing is that you ALMOST NEVER have to worry about running into the person your disguised as, because you literally were the ones to kill them. Especially with large groups of enemies, people tend not to spycheck you because, well, they turned their backs and when they look behind again, huh, mysterious, that random engineer has seemingly disappeared, but at least the demo WHO I SAW SHOOT BOMBS is still here. In other words, they rarely spycheck you because you literally took the disguise of someone they already spychecked.

      It's not silent though, it still makes a stabbing sound and the victim's cosmetics usually linger because Source sucks. It only masks the scream, which isn't enough.

      Thats the crazy part; the YER still makes noise. It's not silent. If you want to take out groups, the big earner is literally just an upgrade in every way. You'll also still get checked by a decent team as soon as they know what you're running because they can still hear the melee

      This clip is great because you can see Great Blue go through that exact same experience. He sees an enemy, shoots before processing that it was just an A-posing scout, and then pauses and stands still for a moment to process his actions and pay tribute to the innocent life he had accidentally taken.

    Here's some advice for these weapons:
    The air strike has the same ramp-up that every launcher has, "bombing" (jumping directly into someone and shooting) is insane with the airstrike
    The loch n load's reduced clip is a much smaller deal when you have stock stickies, since you still have 11 explosives at the end of the day
    Carbine combos well with the bow, it's good enough to finish people off, and mini-crits on the bow are valuable

      I'd also recommend LnL with Scottish Resistance because defensively this allows you to set up multiple traps and then rely upon your quicker projectiles to finish people off or bait them into the trap. The reduced clip size works to your benefit and if you put a fake trap down and detonate it, the enemies will be lured into a false sense of security; you wasted your trap and you are reloading.

      Tbh the 4 best secondaries for huntsman sniper imo are both smgs, jarate (cuz it's kind of impossible to go wrong with the piss jar) and the cozy camper, that health regen benefits the huntsman playstyle a lot to be honest, it lets you stay in the fight longer and be more self sufficient, as you take a lot of chip damage and when you have only 125 health that damage adds up

    There are "bad" weapons, but from experience, that's mostly just because stock is a very high bar already.
    Forceanature is hard to use and very predictable because the knockback you give yourself while jumping. Airstrike, the effort you need to put in to do mediocre rollouts and damage output, atleast it makes rocket jumping alot more flexible.
    Locknloads quicker projectile speed takes alot to get used to. Quickiebomb is actually amazing if you ask me. Huntsman takes away your full hitscan instant kill options, and YER requires you to use your brain a bit more.

    I'm glad to see people getting to know the YER. Its been my go to knife for a long time, and its really surprising how much you can get away with when your kills are almost silent. It really feels like you are the spy: cold, calculated, silent, and deadly.

    The thing with Your Eternal Reward is that it give the enemy so little information to give away that your a spy. You just saw that scout double jump it can’t be a spy. YER says otherwise.

      @@rafflez8961 well that last ones true, but if someone spy checks someone and then you kill them and take their spot (you know, without source spaghetti) even if they know that you are using YER they won’t feel the need to check again. After all, they just checked that guy. Why would he just happen to NOW be a spy.

    Fun fact, the Loch-n-Load & Quickiebomb Launcher combo can instantly kill a full health sentry with one fully charged sticky being detonated and one pipe connecting at the same time. Great for catching a Short Circuit engie with his pants down, since it can happen quicker than he can notice the bombs coming in

    There is a pyro detonator jump map called "jump_pyrokinesis". You can beat the most of it using just the FaN. I fell back on the atomizer and the winger only on some of the very last jumps. Also, that was me playing, and i'm not a master at FaN jumps, so maybe it's possible to go through the entire map without the help of other items. Just a little fun fact.

    although you can easily shut your brain off with default stickies, i've always loved how dynamic quickies are. you can use them in short range or on long range thanks to the faster ramp up and faster arm time which pair well. however, if you solely use it as a primary substitute, you'll find yourself dealing chip damage at best in scenarios where the clean 100 damage pipes would've done the job much easier so it really makes you practice your priorities right

    The force a nature is also kinda popular in competitive 6s. It’s ability to 2 shot scouts and medics make it very useful for dropping medics, and cheesing scout 1v1s. It’s ability to launch people where you want them to go is also very useful for countering demoman.

    I love the Loch-n-load, the ability to blow up buildings from a further range without sacrificing the speed at which you administer the damage ends up winning your team games by singlehandedly disassembling the enemy choke point without risk.
    That and I like how it forces you to get better at direct hitting people instead of relying on splash damage, even if the increased projectile speed helps of course.

    I like the Scottish resistance, it's the ultimate defence tool.
    And also meh for helping your team push because you can lay traps all over the ground prevent the emery team pushing in.

      ​@@VsAngeelBorn and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, the Scout is a fast-running scrapper with a baseball bat and snarky "in-your-face" attitude. He is the fastest and most mobile mercenary on the battlefield unassisted. Scout's Double Jump helps him outmaneuver slower opponents like the Heavy and navigate terrain while dodging oncoming bullets and projectiles. Carrying a Scattergun, Pistol, and Bat, he is an ideal class for aggressive fighting and flanking. Scout excels at "hit-and-run" tactics that sap away enemy health as his high mobility allows him to get in, do damage, and escape before being noticed. However, Scout possesses the lowest default health pool (alongside the Engineer, Sniper, and Spy), leaving him vulnerable on the front line. However, this is a fair trade-off given his ability to run in and out of contested hot-spots quickly, enabling him to turn the tide of battle before the enemy team can even take notice.
      Scout is an excellent choice for focussing the objective. He is the only class who can capture control points and push carts at twice the normal rate. Using a unique array of cloaking watches, he can render himself invisible or even fake his own death, letting him infiltrate enemy lines with little chance of detection. His Disguise Kit lets him impersonate any class on either team. With enough skill in the art of deception, the Spy can momentarily fool enemies with their disguise, lulling them into a false sense of security. When the time is right, he can emerge from the woodwork to strike a killing blow, stabbing his unsuspecting "teammate" in the back. In fact, a swift backstab with any of the Spy's knives will kill most foes in a single hit - provided they are not under the effects of any type of invulnerability, or some other form of immense damage reduction.
      In addition to being able to swiftly assassinate key enemies, the Spy can disable and destroy Engineer-constructed buildings with his Sapper. Once attached, the Sapper disables and slowly drains health from the enemy building, eventually resulting in its destruction. However, a Sapper can be removed by an Engineer, or Pyro wielding the Homewrecker, Maul, or Neon Annihilator.
      The Spy has the unique ability to use enemy Dispensers and Teleporters while disguised, enabling him to replenish his health and ammo behind enemy lines and enter Engineer nests undetected. Should any enemy be unfortunate enough to be standing on a Teleporter exit as the Spy teleports, they will be telefragged and die instantly. However, the Spy still collides with enemy buildings, even when disguised.
      Medics can both heal and apply ÜberCharge effects to disguised enemy Spies. Particularly adept Spies can use this to their advantage by coercing enemy Medics into healing them, allowing him to more easily pull off stabs amidst a group of enemies.
      Whereas most players can only see the names and health of their teammates, the Spy can observe the names and health of the enemy team as well (an ability unique to the Spy and a Medic carrying the Solemn Vow), allowing him to relay useful intelligence and coordinate team pushes. This synergizes well with his cloaking ability, which makes him ideal for identifying and calling out enemy positions and upcoming pushes. A skilled Spy can apply pressure from behind the enemy whilst the rest of his team pushes from the front, resulting in a pinch that any uncoordinated team will find difficult to escape from.

    I think the Loch & Load is a tough love weapon where it forces you to hit directs. Rollers can be a crutch sometimes and getting better at hitting direct pipes is a skill that makes good Demoman mains infuriating.

    This is a great video, it perfectly encapsulates something I've thought about tf2 for a long time, that being that alot more weapons are viable than people give them credit for, mostly because in order to use a weapon at it's fullest potential you have to drastically change your play style and how you go about alot of encounters

    One underrated thing about the Force-A-Habit Sorry I mean the Force-A-Nature is its launching mechanism. I mean, if theres someone thats too strong for your team to kill, you can plant one good meatshot and blast them away, giving your team some breathing room. Or, paired with the mad milk when inside buildings, it can also allow you help you and your team get some health back by launching them into a wall.

    The Beggar's Bazooka is a mobility tool that doubles as a powerful melee weapon. The best way to use it is to learn overload jumps and how to use the fast fire rate to rocket jump off of a wall using multiple rockets, and then fly into point-blank and just kill your enemy with a barrage you prepared on the way down.

    4:30 I don't know why others don't use it more often, but my main reason is that being a slow moving target high in the air means a bot or decent sniper basically gets a free kill on me when I activate the base jumper.

    The reason Airstrike + Base Jumper is used less together is because Base Jumper keeps you further away from your target(s) which cause your rockets to do less damage. In mvm this combo is used specifically for tank shredding with Crit Airstrike rockets from a medic while using the refill ammo canteen to keep a crit barrage going

    Come to think of it, the force a nature seems pretty well suited for a capping scout. You can not only cap quicker than any other class in the game, but can also keep people from interrupting that cap by knocking them back.

    im a big fan of loose cannon + quickiebomb; when someone gets too close for comfort for my donk range i pull out my quickie and abuse its spammability so they get back.
    quickiebomb is also good to compensate for loose cannon's lack of range going for a long range sticky across the map when my loose cannon can't cover it

    I like to use the airstrike with banners because the increased clip size is actually pretty good with them. The increased ammo cap and the firing and projectile speed while jumping also allows you to do rocket jump routines that are downright impossible with every other launcher, but you have to practice with it specifically to get those down.

    Personally I'm on the opposite side when it comes to the Air Strike, funny enough. I didn't love using the weapon with the base jumper, made me feel surprisingly sluggish, like a sitting (or, flying) duck, and given the maintained distance between you and your targets, the damage of the rockets did way less a lot of the time. But now that I've tied the use of the Air Strike more toward my usual play style (fun rocket jumps, sync bombs, etc), it actually feels way more effective. If you land where your barrage of rockets go, their damage goes way up, which makes bombing incredibly effective, and once you get more rockets in your clip, you've essentially just got a normal rocket launcher with more sustainable damage. If you can incorporate small rocket jumps into your playstyle (or b-hops if you're feeling handsome enough), then using it with the gunboats can keep you moving a lot more, and make bombing, in my experience, a lot more reliable.
    But I'll say that I probably use the base jumper less than I really ought to. It does have its own niche role to fill in, and I'm sure I'd like it more if I gave it a shot. That's why I really like this game, the weapon options can really force you to change your playstyle and really shake things up. I'm in a similar boat as you were regarding the Quickie Bomb Launcher, where right now I just don't really use it, like ever, but I'm not entire sure why. Your idea of pairing it with a kritz medic or something sounds really fun though. It'd require a bit of a new mindset to get into, but it could still be really cool.
    EDIT: Also, same exact boat with the YER. I picked it up randomly a few days ago, stabbed a Heavy right as he was about to get ubered, and led the enemy Medic into our team while doing nothing with said uber. Needless to say, I instantly fell in love with the knife, and am intent on maining it for the foreseeable future LMAO

    Force-A-Nature, I agree with. I've been maining it on my scout class for the last 2 months and having an absolute blast. The other one is the Baby Face Blaster - not so fun in modes like Payload but great fun in KOTH or CP.

    Nice to see some of my favorite weapons included here. Mainly Loch and YER. Absolutely love using both of them. Side note though, I'm not sure if you play on high ping, or just never messed with interp settings. It looks like the default interp settings, but it could also be ping related.

    Just so you know (cause I get the feeling you didn't know), the "your eternal reward" is a silent killer. That means the body ragdoll will disappear upon being stabbed, and the knife sound will be silent. It also doesn't appear in the killfeed to thier teammates.

    I remember that as demo i hated stock grenade launcher for the pipes being too big and the detonation timer being too long, so i used iron bomber. now i love the stock GL its great for hitting airpipes or just predict enemy's movement and it has long range due to it's long detonation timer

    they should revert the base jumper nerf, maybe give it a self damage reduction (though not as much as the gunboats), they should also give some self damage reduction to the manntreds to, but not as much as the gunboats obviously.

    The obvious reason most people don't use the Base Jumper with the Air Strike is, well SNIPER exists. That and everyone bashed the Base Jumper after it got its "competative" nerf so you can't open and close the parachute at will, it just OPENS and your stuck with it or you fall.

    With the Airstrike, i've found that cancelling the fall damage at the last second from a long jump worked really well for me as the playstyle, but after the Trolldier video from SoundSmith (i think it was that one) i switched over to the Gunboats, as it turns out the blast damage did almost double the damage that the fall damage would do. The base jumper also just gets me sniped or bombed even when i use it smart. Maybe i'll use the Mantreads some day instead, for now i just like the Gunboats.

    Using the air strike along side the buff banner is IMO one of the most satisfying things in the whole game. Dust bowl last with 8 rockets is a wet dream come true.

    I always find it funny whenever someone mentions using Sticky launchers as primary weapons, when they literally started out as Demoman's primary weapon with the grenades as a secondary. Grenade launcher gets replaced with Wee Booties, clearly a secondary weapon since it just boosts health and the stats from a different unlock. The Shield replaces the Sticky launcher because it absolutely overhauls Demo's playstyle (and has a conflicting right-click bind).

    I feel the reason people don't give the loch n load a chance is because so many tf2 youtubers called it a clutch years ago and all the new players just went a long with that mentality. Tf2 players are easily influenced. Nothing scares tf2 players away from something more then accusing them of using a clutch or being a "warpig". I still see people on servers parroting things youtubers said years ago

    I use the your eternal reward on gunspy when I dont need spycicle. the clock duration doesnt matter as much for deadringer, I dont plan on disguising and silent killer makes it really good for the times when its a pretty free back

    Long-time Airstriker (and rocket jumper) here. I love it because the skill ceiling is super high for mobility. If you're an accomplished rocket jumper, you can go anywhere with this thing. I also prefer the Gunboats for the rocket jumps. Turns out, a bhop (like you would for an extended market garden) also works with the Airstrike to retain fire rate. So a little rocket jump and a bhop will still let you unload a ton of rockets. It's a real gem and is so fun to use (the Beggars is another one that has unbelievable mobility and a super fun play style to it with an incredible skill ceiling).

    My favourite Scout shotgun. I got really good with utilising its knockback so well, disorienting enemy aim, and as sudden unpredictable mobility.
    Especially on 2Fort with its close quarters. I remember accidentally making a Soldier blow himself up by displacing him behind a wall as he's shooting.
    I'm gonna watch the rest of the video, but I would be fine just watching that part.

    that first bit is so true. i have 7000 hours and straight up i play far worse than i did with only 400 or so hours. usually i'm below the middle of the scoreboard, with only a few exceptions being certain setups for classes on maps that i have been working to perfect

    I've always been a diehard quickiebomb launcher fan. I literally gave up getting a specialized killstreak stickybomb launcher for a specialized killstreak quickiebomb launcher, because this thing is a massive dopamine rush due to the sheer range that you get.

    In my case, the Beggars Bazooka was one I didn't like until I realized that 1. i have a bottomless clip, so spam is more viable, and 2. being inaccurate doesn't matter if I'm just in my enemies' face
    Essentially, the most effective playstyle for this thing is to be a complete dumbass and w+m1 your way to victory (or the nearest chokepoint)

    i LOVE the loch n load, and not cause it’s actually good.
    I main pyro (combo pyro, not wm1 pyro). When I see a level 3 sentry and I can’t get it, switch times demo and it’s loch and load time, and 2 shooting a level 3 sentry is just absolutely one of the most satisfying things to do.
    I even made an engi leave the game once lol

    HI, i like your map so far. But i have a few suggestions that could drastically improve it.
    First off, and this is the most important thing i'll likely say here. I noticed the map has no fog. This REALLY hurts the atmosphere you're going for. What i'd recommend is use one fog controller entity for the outside. (Tip: set the fog color to be the same as the skybox color) and then use several indoor fog controller's in particular to help with lighting contrast. If you set the fog color to something dark like say, a dark blue or red, and then set up your fog start and fog end settings so that they're a good distance apart, you'll notice that their colors will start blending and mixing with your light colors, and everything will look a lot darker and therefore contrast nicely with your lights.
    The second problem i noticed is with your lights, specifically which types of lights you used. In general i noticed quite a few too many regular "light" entities in your map, and while they're certainly fine for most regular tf2 maps, when you're doing something with so much contrast like emesis blue, it's generally a good idea to avoid them. For cases like the tunnels for example, what i would do is use a light_spot entity set to a really high inner and outer angle like 270, and then edit the brightness and falloff settings to make it look closer to the original. Even when you do have to use regular light entities it's best to keep them to the "quadratic" setting and try to have the smallest possible brightness value. you can actually see this in emesis blue itself.
    One of the problems with porting materials and models directly from SFM is that it actually supports pseudo/fake PBR materials. I don't actually know if Emesis Blue uses them but that would explain why porting over many of the models/materials doesn't work, bump mapping actually works fine in tf2, it's just not used that often by valve.
    Finally, i noticed there doesn't seem to be any env_cubemaps in your map at all, this really hurts it as HDR helps light sources look even brighter, as well as actually giving the water some reflections, in the topic of entities you can use. I'd recommend also getting acquainted with the color_correction entity, try playing around with it by placing it and then using the command "colorcorectionui" in-game. It'll help things along greatly as well.

    I know you've made a video on it already, but I *LOVE* The Classic, it's such a bad but good in the right hands, kind of weapon and have hit extremely nutty shots with it that I don't think I'd hit with a normal sniper (not counting noscopes obviously since only The Classic can charge on noscope if talking about his hitscan weapons)

    Here’s two possibly sleeper combos that cover each other well:
    1. The FaN + Pretty Boy’s Pocket Pistol
    If you’re good at hitting targets who are knocked away, then this pistol can help finish them off and heal you for the damage you took for getting up in their face. It would take a lot of aiming experience and knowhow, but I think this has a lot of potential.
    2. The Loose Cannon + The Quickiebomb Launcher
    They cover each other’s range weaknesses well. The Cannon can help cover mid-range targets while the Quickiebomb takes care of the other ranges. While the latter can’t handle close-range targets as well as pipes, the faster sim tune can still help in a pinch (or at least in a desperate attempt to get out of there).

    For the beggars bazooka, try to aim the upper part of your cross hair and if you jump, you're most certain to hit, aim predicting the movement while you aim kinda like at the center but also knowing that your movement will greatly affect what you're aiming at.

    YER is one of the most fun things for dealing with Engineers. A Engi that doesn’t put his Sentry in a turtling set up can be an easy kill and makes it way easier to sap his set up
