@@austinpierceTV I believe he was initially referring to this "line" of plates when he said they'd "been lifted by the some of the strongest people in history." He later described his specific plates as the prototypes for the line.
HA! Cool to see these again! I was the engineer that took them from this prototype level to the finished version. Hit me up if you want more of the back story info. on these!
The thing with these, and this is coming from a CNC operator not a rogue employee, is that these aren't exactly prototypes they're scrap. They only continued with them at all and got them coated because that was the only way to get any money out of the loss in material. Likely the imperfections come from issues with the programming or tools breaking. The heavier one has that mysterious hole in the lower quadrant of it, and that was likely a program error that had the endmill go too deep. As soon as that endmill went too deep, that plate is scrap. It makes sense why neither of them were "completed". Don't take this as me knocking them, I think these are super awesome and I'm jealous you have them. But prototype isn't the word for them.
Yahh exactly , I have also worked as a CNC operator specifically for engine parts like the pentastar v6 heads , so yah these are definitely from the scrap pile. Seeing so many big errors I actually think an operator loaded them wrong way in the machine or missed a step or something before pressing the button , and in result the tools break , and as soon as you hear that wrong sound they stop the machine , usually new operators do it
When I was watching the Arnold Strongman events this year I was thinking to myself how much I’d love to have those plates! I figured they weren’t available, but even If they were they’d be out of my price range...little did I know!
The plates I'd be interested in acquiring are the vintage deep dish Paramount plates used at the original Gold's Gym. You can see them in photos and in the movie Pumping Iron. In addition to the derp dish, what I liked about them was the outside edge was wide and seemed to be slightly curved. Just looked like great training weights.
You do you, but I would strongly consider doing the coffee table with a base similar to the Rogue Supply Co. coffee table design with a glass top. Maybe even do a collaboration with one of the many RUclips welding channels and do a custom fab base with heavy duty square tubing. Can't wait to see what you do!
My Dad made a set of 22lb plates when he was a teenager to train with instead of buying plates. He took a 1/4 thick sheet of steel and cut them out with a plasma cutter. He only made 4. I have all 4. 😝🤣
Coop, you should do a best barbell in the UK/Europe video! Rogue here is beyond expensive (we're speaking more than 400€ to ship an OPB to the UK) but there's so many manufacturers that you'd love the choice!
I’ve been in the machine trade for 30 years and I could tell those plates where the scrap prototyped ones. You could finish the 2op on a lathe so there 45lb’s.
Just love lifting with Vintage weights. Something about literally lifting history. Just found some Paramount/Los Angeles weight plates and Weider's. A good day.
Its ounds like they're not prototype plates, but rather prove outs for the production run. Prove outs are normally scrapped after starting a production run.
OK...I figured it out. You are the only one I’ve heard of that is a weight lifting equipment collector. I should have figured it out sooner when seeing your collection of weight lifting bars hanging on your wall like artwork. You may even be a weight equipment hoarder...and it’s beautiful.
You should make those plates into individual round tables or stands that go next to a couch or chair for example in a sitting area or areas that would be neat
something is telling me these arent the only two test plates, it seems odd they would only make 2 testers if they both have different coats its likely they would have made more to test things on, i mean if its a draft plate why make 2 why not make one, if they made 2 they probably made more than 2, thats my opinion anyway.
Without some sort of authenticity with photos/ serial numbers IMO these are worthless. They aren’t even the plates that were actually used and lifted setting any records. It’s too easy for anyone with a Cnc to duplicate these for a couple hundred dollars in materials.
Just to correct you, these aren't the rarest plates of all time. Richard Sorin has the only pair of red painted chrome Zuver's 45 lb plates ever made -- the ones without the Zuverman on them. These are especially more special because they're actual legit, usable plates, and not prototypes. Also, Bob Zuver's son has the only 200 lb Zuverman plates.
@@GarageGymReviews here they are currently on display. imgur.com/a/EcOP58A The chrome pair of plates were cherished by Bob Zuver. What makes you think these were the first two off the line? Did the man who sold them to you say that? It doesn’t really make sense. They wouldn’t have needed a trial and error with these. They are completely designed in a CAD program then CNC machined. It’s a very simple design too, so it’s doubtful there would have been errors on that front. Most likely these were just two that encountered hiccups in the machining and had to be scrapped.
They would be considered the ,"specimens". This approach is similar when creating new generations of coins or paper money. They start with design, then the first few attempts to create the coin/bills are the specimens with all zeros as the serial number. Very rate.
Joe B exactly what I was thinking. Like if someone was selected to have these what would compel them to sell these on IG of all places? Seems hella shady.
Kyle Neese it was kinda like a rhetorical question. In that I would imagine Rouge would only distribute these plates to people they know would truly value them. Aka ppl that wouldn’t sell them. Which is why I don’t fully believe these plates are real. Hopefully he has some certificate of authenticity otherwise he got played.
I think the plates Thor used to deadlift 501KG are more rare as he sold them for fundraising and signed them and they’re signed by that other Icelandic strongman also judge forgot the name
