- As a follow up to my last few videos, I was asked to talk about which weight plates I purchased. I think it makes more sense to go through a similar process for this as we did with the racks. So in today's video, we'll take a look at why I sold my Rogue Calibrated Competition Plates.

I like the cut of your jib sir.
It's been a pleasure Brandon. I look forward to Part 2-13 in this series that was promised as a single video.
You catfished me, but I'm on the hook, so let's do this series.
I ramble too much
You Goldilocks ramble. Not to little, not too much, just right...
Honestly love all of your pointers and thought process. Appreciate the info and transparency.
Thank you!
Brandon. I don't care what you get as far as brands, but please get some proper deep-dish style plates. The steel milled plates by roguelook beautiful imo, but like you said there are many options. Thanks for being informative and posting so frequently!
Going to talk about that I hope. The true deep dish plates aren't made like how they used to and can get fairly pricey on the 2nd hand market. That being said I'd still like to grab some if I find any!
Really enjoying the insight to your purchases here.
Glad to hear!!
I just checked out the strong-arm website, what a great deal on calibrated plates! You could replace the plates you sold and still come out ahead!!
Yeah very competitive offering!
Thanks for the shout, brother! I’m 100% with you on the uniformity thing.... But then again I have 7 different sets of plates lol.

@@Ason19 What are you rambling about.
Spotting and loading is an honest day's work, especially with kg plates. They eventually become impossible to grip when your hands get sweaty, luckily the gym owner of the last meet I helped out with got several pairs of rubber gloves to help with that.
Nice!
I love my calibrated lb plates but I agree they aren't the easiest to manipulate. One reason I bought rogue calibrated plates during the pandemic was that you can easily resell them without a loss. The second reason is that they are one of the few 55lb steel plates on the market and, for me, plate math with 55s is easier than 45s.
Def true with the resale value!
Hang on... what is pornography?? Nevermind I'll Google it.
always a safe bet!

@@Steve-dv4hy I reccomend the dark net
You’re very well spoken
Thanks! Just like talking about equipment :)
Lol I bought like 3 weight sets on CL... Weighed them all to get them within 2% of the stated weight.
Sold the rest, rinse and repeat.
That's def a smart way to go, I just wish I had the time/patience.
Buy nice or buy twice is the motto I live by. Do you think bumper plates are worth getting for a home gym?
If you do olympic weightlifting, yes. If not, no need.
damn, those strong arms plates are amazing, shame they dont do delivery to mianland Europe, they'er SO much cheaper it'sunbelievable
ah yeah people in the EU have it tough when it comes to stuff that's over here!
I like the old school gray metal plates, that’s what I grew up using and I still think they are just as sexy. Never liked the tooty fruity colored bumpers, To each their own I guess. Calibrated plates are nice though 👍
Def hard to beat some old school iron!
Currently have Rogue HiTemps that I bought during COVID and im just so over them. Looking at Steel Rogue KG Plates vs Strength Co since theyre finally in stock in the East Coast. Which do you think are better?
I think machined plates (strength co or not) are a better option. The calibrated plates are a PITA to move around and if your kilo math isn't great it gets annoying.
Have any experience with an Okie power bar? Have an opportunity to get one but only review I've seen is a very old one from GarageGym Reviews. Should I get it or just get a Texas Power Bar?
Only the DL bar from them. IF the price is right and it's in good shape, why not?
The rogue calibrated plates are still listed for hundo pricing on their site, but it says "Due to cosmetic blemishes, we cannot offer these plates as first quality. All plates are in new, unused condition. All sales are final." Do you have any experience with this? Is this a good deal/better than buying machined plates?
Most all of Rogue's blemishes are still extremely nice overall. I know a few that ordered them and could barely find any issues. If the price is right, just depends on if you want calibrated or not!
"Why I reused my thumbnail from a previous video"
God :-O if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
So what plates do you have now?? I'm looking to get some rouge calibrated plates. I like the price for the quality. What's your take??
Rogue Six Shooters
I live 40 minutes from York Barbell, they have calibrated steel plates and I don’t pay shipping. 45 minutes in the other direction I can get a good deal on used Troy plates. Rogue is 385 miles away, not too far for this truck driver, I’m planning on a road trip there.
I'm glad I don't live that close to York, I'd have a lot less money!
First time I used kilo. Competition plates I was totally underwhelmed. They were very slick. Hard to load. The number of times they almost slipped out of my hands. Steel plates are not an issue. I just weigh them on a calibrated scale. Then write number with sharpie.
Right on
We are in the process of ordering weights for our new gym. Not sure what type to go with. We ordered a couple Monster racks and other goods and still researching plates. we have always used steel weights but in all honesty want the gym to look cool as well. lol
I think machined are the way to go!
@@BasementBrandon have you used rogues deep dish plates?
@@9252LIFE They don't make sense to me. They're too deep for my liking as when you start putting on 495 and up you quickly run out of room.
@@BasementBrandon oh yeah good call
It's August 2020, and I am amused because I recently saw a Garage Gym Reviews video in which Coop says he is going to move. Wondering how many people he will have to recruit to move all his gym stuff.
Haha yeah that won't be fun!
I got an email about the new stainless racks from Rogue. Just curious if you would have gone with that if it was available? I personally dont know, its cool but also kind of weird. And the extra cost is a lot.
I don't see the value personally. It's more corrosion resistant, but my other rack didn't have any issues after 5 years. I actually prefer the colored options.
Will the bench press officially be changed to the binch press in all sanctioned meets now?
Can't get that kiwi accent down
I haven't found much difference between cal and lb plates when it comes to the big three and while they are nice to look at, they just aren't worth the cost for most home gym folk, IMO. I share the same tendencies when it comes to laziness and that need for all of my equipment to look good - especially when it comes to plates. Cannot stand the mix match look, regardless of how inexpensive it can be to locally source used plates or equipment.
I largely agree. I think most people have it set in their mind they need calibrated plates, but I usually try to steer people away unless they need to have a competitive environment.
That uniformity gets me too....I can’t mismatch brands & styles of gold clubs...therefore I’ve spent my fair share on them.....on gym equipment, I’m battling it now....not only desiring the same brand...but also type...all steel or all bumpers...then rubber vs urethane??? It’s a mess...but I definitely understand
Glad I'm not alone!
Brandon Campbell Diamond that you are not!!
What’s your take on PRx Performance Weights??
Which ones?
I know you will get the best plate set that fits your needs. Having the exact equipment that is used at a meet really helped me. After loading my new 25kg plates for a while the 45lb plates seem really light now. I mix and match when I'm in a hurry. Conversion slows me down. Two 25 kg plates plus bar and callers are 165lb. Then I just start loading lb plates. My lifts aren't heavy so four 25kg plates on the bar won't be for a long time if ever. I lied four weeks before my meet I did two reds (each Side) on the bar for a deadlift. So what I'm saying calibrated plates are great to have when training for a meet.
Keep kicking ass man! Coming for you in the masters in a few years!
Where do you sell your equipment? Craigslist? I have a rack that I want to sell.
I have but found FB Marketplace to be best
Quick question man, you mentioned strongarm is made in the same factory as rogue. I like that the rogue branding is a smaller footprint on the plate than strongarm sports, but with the cost savings, it could be something I could get used to. You also mentioned Alan is going to do a comparison review, was that insider knowledge or am I just not finding it anywhere?
Adam from Garage Gym Reviews, he's already published it!
@@BasementBrandon My bad I heard Alan and assumed you meant Alan Thrall. Adam is a friend of mine on instagram and we have talked about the plates quite a bit which is why I was looking at them. Thanks for clarifying for me.
You just addicted to spend money on new things...I’m just wondering what u buying next
Ah not at all, I don't spend much on things outside of gym stuff lol
@@BasementBrandon food?
Dude is squatting in a singlet 🤔
I really like the Rogue six shooter plates, but they aren't super deadlift friendly. Rogue machined deep dish are nice. You already know strongarm makes the same calibrated plates as Rogue.
I was interested to see the six shooters were more accurate than the slightly more expensive machined.
@@BasementBrandon I didn't notice that, but I like the side it favors. +0/-1 instead of +2/-0. They are also quite a bit thinner. Buy them to hang on the rack! They look super organized with all the holes lined up. Then only bench and squat with them when you feel like it. Keep another set of kilo steel over on the tree by the deadlift platform.
In germany the market for used weights is very bad.
There are just few offers with the smale size weights for smaller shafts
Def one of the issues with the market overall. Pretty poor where I am as well :(
A plate trilogy!? Whatever, i’m watching...
Appreciated!
so what plates are you getting?
Soon my friend... soon. Or just look on my IG lol.
I JUST saw the rouge vs ivanko...
Lol perfect timing
When is the best time to buy equipment for a home gym? Black Friday? I'm budget conscious as well and building a home gym so I'm looking for sales.
b rob depends on the brand. Rogue only does sales on BF. Other suppliers will also have big Black Friday deals but usually also offer sales and discounts throughout the year.
@@BasementBrandon Thanks Brandon...and I was looking to get my plates and barbell from Rogue and everything else from other suppliers. So you answered my question. Thanks again and great video.
For me the struggle has always been BF usually doesn't line up with when I want something. If you can hold off you're likely to save a few hundred bucks.
@@BasementBrandon Okay cool...yes I'm sure I can hold off. I still have a gym at work i use so I'm not in a rush.
If you're budget conscious why not check Craigslist? Weight is weight. I built my home gym mostly with Craigslist. Over a ton of Olympic and the same in standard plates. Weighed all my 45s and they all fall between 44-46lbs.
Wait, so you sold your equipment..so you didn't have to move it?
I had to downsize and get rid of several pieces anyways, this was a good opportunity to start over.
@@BasementBrandon just buy everything again to make a 2nd review
I have one of those brands that look exactly like yours calibrated ,they are nice Olympic colors etc. A complete set from 2.5 lb plates to 55lb plates. About $1,100 and will love them till I die.😉
Nice deal!
Hey Brandon, wondered if you could do a video on what motivates you to continue doing so many video uploads when they average 10k views. I remember years ago you were getting hundreds of thousands of views and probably making much more money for the effort required. Perhaps this will help other fitness youtubers stay motivated in similar situations.
You say that as if 10,000 views isn't a lot. That's 10,000 times a day people watch me workout in a basement or garage :) TBH I don't care about views, I never did, otherwise I would have given up on my channel before it even got "bigger" I make videos on things I like, if I don't like something I don't make a video. Never wanted to get into the fakeness that it takes to be a larger "fitness" youtuber, so I just do my own thing when I feel like it!
@@BasementBrandon Awesome response. I agree about keeping on doing what you are passionate about. Kudos to you for sticking with it all these years. I started lifting in 2012 so it's been a journey as well since I'm almost 40 now. Thanks for all the content and stay strong!
talk about best equipment for small apartments..please...thank you.
Based off what I've seen I'd say a simple squat stand as you can do squats/bench on it and it takes up little to no space.
Chuck Norris total gym obviously
you made the best choise selling your calibrate plates. l got just one pair of 25kg by rogue ,they are nice to see but rellly unconfotable to use every day specially if you get a home gym.
appreciate the feedback!
U only need bumpers if you are performing the olympic lifts (C&J Snatch)
Mostly agree!
So you purchased rouge again.
Could be!
Guessing Six shooter or ivanko ex grip plates
I looked at a bunch of Ivankos, but their shipping/availability/weird sets threw me off.
Waiting on my strong arm calibrated plates! Can't wait
Thinking about a set of those myself.
They're very nice.
Hard to beat IMO, I just wish they used a more reliable shipper.
@@BasementBrandon what's the issue they have on shipping.
Wild Bill sometimes boxes go missing, or show up trashed
Made me realize, a 45lb plate is a 45lb weight plate! Doesnt really matter what type unless theres a huge -/+ difference... im gonna stick to my rubber coated plates... besides, the only plate difference in my situation, is the plate i fill up at a buffet restaurant. hahah
I hear ya!
So how much money did you lose when you bought and later sold those ivankos? Then you used that money to buy rogue's comp. Plates. That was actually one of your best buys since you managed to make money when you sold those.
Not counting shipping or tax, prob around $200? I prob could have sold them for break even but just wanted them gone so priced them aggressively and they sold in a day. Prob too aggressive lol
York calibrated plates maybe? They have calibrated plates that are deep dish
I did spend a lot of time considering the York machined plates.
We need Brandon and Coop crossover episode
Only if we both can grow out mustaches.

Just a habit of how I rack
Brandon, how old are you, and what weight class do you compete in?
I believe he said he’s 36
38 and 105kg
He's aged over the last few years eh....
Ross M tbh I total made up that number ahah 😂😂 figured I’d be close
@@watchman9198 I do that when I'm loading the bar.
Interesting to see how your views have changed and how much more $ you have thrown at the home gym since then.
Yep! I think part of it was me moving and having to rent for about 1.5-2 years while our house was being built. If I never moved I wouldn't have had a compelling reason to shed equipment. That being said, it's nice to have options 😅
Without watching the video...I assume because math
My kilo math got pretty good once I just started thinking in kg vs trying to convert everything to pounds. But now I’m having trouble switching back 😂
Lay off the meth ...it’s messing with your grammar👍
I'm just waiting for the day I can become him in Gran Torino.
Because I told him since the beginning that he had overpaid for those weights, so he came to his senses and sold them back.....lol

BRANDON..can you do a video on what you used for flooring and if it worked, woukd you do anything different, etc. Will be building a basement gym of my own and want to protect concrete floor from deadlifts. Thanks!
I think I talked about this, just can't recall the video. I'd suggest building a platform if you plan on deadlifting. It could be done with stall mats (I'd suggest at least 1.5" total, or a combination of stall mats and plywood!
@@BasementBrandon great thank you!

samer powerlifting those are nice plates too, but get similar to rogue, just more expensive.
I think it's pretty easy to find similar or better products from others out there, but it's usually defined to one product. Hard to beat them when you look at the whole portfolio.
@@BasementBrandon - a couple of years ago I bought a few calibrated competition plates from Eleiko. There were some minor faults regarding the painting so I got a real nice discount. Still think they have that alternative if you don´t need or want to buy a whole set.
You’re selling everything. Midlife crisis? “Are you okay?”

I tease, I tease. If I won the powerball, I think I’d blow the most money on gyms and their equipment rather than huge houses and cars. It’s an addiction. I get it.
In the great words of Adele: "We could of had it aaaaaaallllll!" I detect some seller's remorse in this vid. Diamond didn't know what he just gave up.
Not at all, the Rogue plates are so much better lol.
@@BasementBrandon The whole thing is about you selling the Rogue plates tho. Did you buy some other Rogue plates then?? I was looking into buying some new plates and watched your series. However , I went with the Competition Rogue plates over others even though they were the most expensive because I was looking for that thin profile so I could add more weight to the barbell. Thin to win.

You're right, it wasn't a good squat, it was a great one.
You don't need all these different kinds of plates just get rubberized plates if your gonna be dropping the weights from a high distance and get normal plates if your not gonna be doing that
Rubber plates are typically thicker and more expensive. If you compete in powerlifting or are just generally strong, there's no reason to get them outside of Olympic lifting.
@@BasementBrandon yeah that's what I mean because in Olympic lifting and CrossFit the weights are gonna be dropped and thrown around a lot more so if they are rubber they are not going to chip when they fall to the ground
Spoiler Alert.... He got the Rogue six shooters! Sorry Brandon, you taking too long! I've owned these plates for about a year and they are dope af I love them.
