- Are Floating Bead Traces better on recreational fishing long lines? We run two 25 hook snapper long-lines with running traces to find out. All the traces have Target Snapper hooks snelled on to the fish hook. Half have the traces fitted with two floating bead on the traces. We catch a good haul of snapper to 6kg long line fishing off the Whangarei Harbour.

I have found big baits need two beads. If you use all single or double floating traces on your longline put a few clip-on 8 ounce weights in the hook section to stop it lifting.

how could not buy fast hitch with swivel myself did my copying your using steel and a normal distorter, ficolum slightly larger than its more fuciona also, used the technique to do with steel snap.I hope you post more videos of fishing using these and other materials which you have

I just done maine friend..I use 300 lb for main line,use a micro jig for bait,,and Diy a gear basikal,, for easyer to roll the main line

. I use beaded but with only 1 bead on each hook , is it better with the 2 on each hook or does it depend on the size of ur bait etc ,and does the colour of the bead make any difference .

Here in the gulf of Mexico we call them white snapper or poge have manybutthey dont get as big as they do on the Atlantic side.

HI paul advise sos not to loose any small ancker, tie the ancker install a ring on the bottom end, drop the ancer normaly and it will never catch on the rocks.
How do you measure how much line do you require from your big red floater down to very sea bottom?
The line is always 1.3 times or more longer than the depth you are fishing. In very deep water I clip an extension on while setting.

PS I have found no catch difference between the green or red floats. The biggest fish are usually caught on floating traces regardless of the colour of the beads

@@user-jm9qq3zc6x Floating beads keep your bait off of the bottom, preventing crabs from getting your bait, presenting your bait better, and also targeting the bigger snapper, which swim above the more undersized snapper.

@@user-jm9qq3zc6x We look forward to hearing how it goes for you. For a more accurate result, stagger your traces with one floating, one not, one floating, one not.. This will let you know what is fishing better, otherwise if they are all one one end it could be due to where the fish are. We also recommend weighting your line every 6-10 traces (every 6 when running all floating), to keep the line on the bottom preventing your line from lifting in the middle.

Hiya Paul...could i use this reel to haul Puka up from the 120 Metre mark?
It is not a winch but I have used it as a line bank when Puka fishing. I always assist and take most of the hauling load with my hands. If you allow too much pressure to build up on the reel it will collapse.

Paul, with regards to the floating bead traces, do you do them running (from the main to the hook) or are they fixed to the hook line?
They run on the trace but always slide up right under the hook.

Occasionally we get tangles, it is from big fish on this video. We always pick up from the right end and have 50 years experience with this type of longline

What is the point of a bead tracer? How does it help?
They float off the bottem, it stops tangles and is easier for fish to see
