You definitely changed my outlook on the update to the ship. It's basically a heavy fighter with triple the shields. Looks pretty good from that perspective!
As a previous owner of a Redeemer (I didn't melt because of the nerf, just didn't need a multicrew of that size as I like the Retaliator way more,) my problem was that, I didn't purchase it as a heavy fighter. I purchased it for what it was advertised as, a gunship with big shield. It's not about whether it's good or not, it's about the bait and switch RSI keeps doing with ships, to make room for new ships to sell. Let's be honest, their business is creating and selling digital goods and by altering the usage of their product, they are engaging in dishonest business practices. That is the problem and that is ruining their own future sales. Stick to what you say you'll do, build trust. Don't screw over past clients. This could become the best heavy fighter in the game and it still wouldn't be what it was advertised as. That is the issue. In order to understand a criticism of a product, you need to first understand the source of the criticism and not the final target of the criticism.
This now moves like it did on release and it feels great. Pilot has access to 2 S4’s and 2 S3’s, 16 missiles, 6 s2 shields and will no doubt be armoured up when armour comes online. Also has a cracking QT drive and range. What they did to the turrets is what they should’ve done with the Corsair. 4 x pilot controlled S4’s would’ve made much better sense for that ship imo. I couldn’t see from the video, what capacity do the weapons have?
I called it. They are simply and now obviously going through ships and doing things to figure what people need for the roles because if we have roles we have a reason to muti
Too many other, better options. The SL Max for example has about the same maneuverability (within 10%), more shields, more hit points, same firepower (more with bigger missiles) That's not to mention the TAC version. That's just the CARGO ship. Then there's the Connie which can do more damage with more shields and similar maneuverability. I get it. It has more roll. So that makes it feel "hotter" but that's.... the only stat it has an advantage in. Is that one thing enough to have a whole ship built around it? It's not even much faster than a Connie. Smaller silhouette...maybe? I get it. If you like the look of it, then that's fine. You like the look of it. That's fair. It's just not "better than ever" because it was better at it's role then it got nerfed. To be honest it should have the S3 shield AND this level of maneuverability AND more armor. Then it would be slightly better than the SL Max cargo ship (although it would still lag a bit behind the Connie which will have more armor and still has Size 5s) PvP it's still a terrible choice currently because it has half the shields of a single Size 3 and even with 3 crew it's still not as good as 3 guys in fighters circling it like piranhas. Now I know that's a choice by CIG to make fighters more "fun" and it's broken, but.... just saying the changes to the Redeemer made it worse not better. It's not supposed to be a "heavy fighter" it's supposed to be a gunship (like the Connie) , just being optimized as such it should be smaller and "harder" than a Connie since it's totally combat-focused.
The SL are not out in live yet, which means changes can still be made. This game is in Alpha, and literally anything can change at this point. Making the Redeemer feeling closer to a heavy fighter for a smaller size gunship is a great move, considering its inspiration comes from helicopter gunships like the Hind-D, not something like an AC-130 gunship. Keep an open mind. It's definitely better this way than it was before.
They changed it from good gunship to good heavy fighter. I think the people who bought it expecting gunship will be disappointed in that change. But maybe it will find new life as a heavy fighter.
My biggest problem with it is them nerfing it into a different style of ship than what people bought it for. Similar to what they did with the Ion. (but the Ion is a FAR worse case). I dont see myself ever giving up a vanguard for a redeemer though, though I will be losing my harbinger once the polaris comes out
That actually doesn't make any sense. What people were upset about was the bait and switch. If this was simply a game where digital ships weren't sold for real money, I'd agree with you 100%. At that point it's entirely CIG's decision for balance, usage, role, etc. This is not the case though, so customers have every right to be upset at getting B when they bought A. You can't reasonably tell me this isn't the case.
setting is "toggle flight operator mode" to toggle the QT on and off when in nav mode. qt defaults on when you switch to nav but at least this can let you flip it off right away when switching
I agree with you. The redeemer is much better. Turret were so slow before and now with that manoeuvrability you stay more on the target. In consequence, you have more DPS at the end with this.
Been trying to tell people this shit for weeks now. I 100% said the same thing that it feels like a heavy fighter but with amazing shields and nasty turrets. Along with excellent interior and quantum range. Its really a bargain of a ship. People also dont realize that the gap between size 4 and size 4 guns isnt as big as it used to be. Size 4 guns can really hurt now.
Here's the problem though and the arguments I've seen pop up against it, it's the usual "meta creep" arguments. The redeemer has no other use at all besides combat, no cargo hauling capability and such, so since it got severely hit like it did that was far more nerfs than the buffs it got to agility, people look at damage vs crew count. A redeemer needing min 3 people, 4 if you count the rear turret for its full output is mixing 6 size 4's, and 2 size 3's. Now compare that to simply running 2 dual seats like 2 hurricanes or 2 scorps, now you're against 4 size 4's + 8 size 3's, or vs 16 size 3's, as well as being 2 different ships to flank targets for the same number of people. Gets even worse running the lightning having 3 - 4 of those. I love the redeemer since it was first revealed and all, but this game is so heavy on meta creep numbers and setups, the redeemers neutered shielding AND hull hp hit it too hard, and the lowering of weap sizes the average player just looks at it as getting beaten out by simply running more solo ships or dual seats instead.
I agree with the idea on waiting for review. It is absolutely not worth dealing with copying game files to install the extremely painful test universe, just to "early access review" medical terrapin and intrepid. Especially since theyve already been changing them. Definentally good idea to wait until theyre actually in to review once with the actual release setup!
Quite right, honestly. I wanted the Starlancer Max so bad but then they took the radar critisicm and interpreted that as us wanting a center radar over 2 MFDs. So I've learned to hold off until we at least get them in the PU. Obviously it's still all subject to change even then, but at least we'll have a better idea of what it'll be. Also, I've seen about 10 videos about the starlancer from one channel, each video 10+ minutes long, all because CIG made minor updates to it each day. So silly and pointless to watch those knowing that it's probably going to change again before it releases fully.
@@UndeadCheetah this is a prime example. With the intrepid we've already had the gun upsized I think from 1xs2 to 1xs4?? And medical terrapin got a jump seat added, I think? Definentally better to wait, hell by the time it's in the intrepid might even be symmetrical 😆

I just never liked the interior layout of it. But it is cool seeing you be able to use it like that. I love the new Intruder, but it's really just a Cutter for those who like the Millennium Falcon, but they used the design of the MSR and Ares for the design language and shrunk it down. Having said that, it only has one size four cannon, two missiles, and a size one shield, so it definitely isn't for combat, which is the main reason you play. I too am waiting for the Guardian. If I don't like it, maybe I will look at the Redeemer again.
So many people never give ships a chance just cause of bad paper stats. And people are struggling to adjust to Redeemer going from an immovable brick with heavy shields to a proper gunboat that flies like a heavy fighter. P.S: the Intrepid is a really great starter, especially after the gun buff. But it's true that it's not a fighter despite its absolutely fantastic flight performance.
For the intrepid, it's the looks. I think it's ugly and thinking that I know im gonna just hate on it regardless of performance, and I don't want a video to reflect that and influence people's opinion on it just because I think it's ugly.
