Story: Good promises and payoffs. Great foretelling of all the rules and building expectations.
Comedy: Very connected to the Charecters and world.
Action: beautifully choreographed and made sense. clarity about what's going on, and interesting ways to use the tools and environment available.

its so cool to see DnD becoming more popular

It's the perfect example of why the gamers should've been gatekeeping more. The more popular it gets, the more it has to change to keep the audience and draw more. It loses more of the things that made it valuable and worthwhile in the first place, it becomes just another texture skin draped over the nomal-popular-typical meat. Go talk to all the gamers who talk about the bad changes in the new versions.
I thought gatekeeping was an evil thing until I saw my fifth or sixth favourite property get normed all the way to hell. It took about 17 years, but I finally see what they mean by the saying "who is it that has a problem with gatekeepers? Invaders".

Man it would've been great if someone told the creators to shut up in their interviews about purposely degrading the male characters. Not that you cant do that, but once you state it as a goal to be proud of, then the movie can be everything I want in a DnD movie and I'm still not gonna see it. Hell it could be one of the best movies ever and I wont see it. Thats not hoping they fail, but they arent getting my money

Having seen it myself, that was an unfortunate choice of words because no character here was "degraded".

Well I would agree, but it has 2 major issues. First many people were already turned off, even dnd fans, due to OGL debacle and negative comments from people who worked on the movie. Second its so close to Mario movie release, which has more fan recognition and fun rating. I'm sure it's a good enough movie for a dnd movie but I'm probably gonna watch mario movie twice with friends and family and passing on dnd movie partly because of said issues but also because nobody I know wanted to see it either.

I have to agree with your first point. I, and many people I know, wont go to see it because of the OGL fiasco. I'd also point out that its not just the Mario movie that will restrict its takings over the Easter weekend. John Wick 4 will also take part of the expected audiance away as well.

    • @danadin
      @danadin Год назад

@liam fitzpatrick that's true. John wick 4 will affect its box office numbers. But the main audience for John wick 4 being rated-R is also not the primary target for a Family Friendly movie which is usually kids/families.

I think the DND movie's biggest hurdle is John Wick 4 and Mario Bros being released around the same time. Had this movie come out a few weeks earlier I think it would have opened stronger.

    Because it's literally not DnD
It's a campy comedy in the likes of marble where you can't take it serious
It's your classic example of using an IP for a title that has absolutely nothing to do with the ip

  • @Chiungalla79
    @Chiungalla79 Год назад

The movie was fun. In the same way that average DnD sessions in an average DnD group is fun.
And that`s why I rarely play DnD anymore.
And I strongly disagree that Thor Love and Thunder is worse in its application of humour.
Thor had very goofy scenes. Agreed. And some of them were over the top. Agreed.
But Thor had entire scenes without humour. It had scary scenes and emotional scenes.
And they did keep them humour free for good reason. And that`s why they worked.
    Why is this important?
If you mix humour and horror in the same scene you get a funny scene.
If you mix humour and drama in the same scene you get a funny scene.
If you mix humour and action in the same scene you get a funny scene.
    Humour is dominant.
And that`s where DnD kind of failed me. Because they used humour in all the scenes.
Even in those that could and should have been emotional or scary.
The dragon had to be fat...
The converse with the dead spell...
    The negotiation with the paladin...
    The barbarian meeting her ex-lover...
    The incompetent wizard...
    The reunion with his child...
    ...
Which made the movie fun to watch. In a comfortable chair with a ice cold drink and pop corn. I didn`t have a bad time. But I will probably never see it again. Because it is too one-dimensional. And the sad feeling is that this could have been a real awesome movie if they would have allowed for a few more serious scenes. Now we need to hope for the next DnD movie to be actual good and not just a good comedy movie.
And comparing this to the Princess Bride is inconceivable.

Everything you just wrote there is a waste of time because that's not what people go to see Lord of the Rings want
You want a comedy go watch comedy
Calling this DnD is like saying Disney is making Star Wars movies and marble movies
      And guess what they're not

    • @Chiungalla79

No. Everything you just wrote is a waste of time. Why? Because you failed in your attempt to write comprehendable english sentences.
And it pretty much looks like your reading comprehension failed you as well. Because this makes no fucking sense whatsoever otherwise:
"You want a comedy go watch comedy"
I blamed the movie for being too funny for its own good. I did not want it to be a comedy in the first place.
And yes, this movie is exactly like most D&D groups I had in the last 31 years in role playing. There is always one guy (or more rarely a girl) that ruins the actual good and meaningful scenes with humour.
And be aware that I wrote most. Not all. There are exceptions. There are good DnD groups. But they are rare and far in between. Especially these days, since DnD went main stream and there are newbies everywhere.
