The Blatant Sexism of Hollywood and Female Characters

Hollywood has reputation for creating strong female characters. Examples like Megan Fox in Transformers, Jennifer Walters in She Hulk, Rey Palpatine in Star Wars, Mulan in the modern remake, and Captain Marvel in the MCU - these are all amazing characters with incredible depth.

Writing female lead characters as shallow flawless heroes who have no weakness, personal struggles or personality is no way to solve the misogyny that you showed us at 0:50-0:59. The worst of the worst are Mindy Kaling and Maimouna Doucoure, who betray other women of color trying to make it in Hollywood by setting a REALLY bad example for them to avoid, by making Velma and Cuties without a single positive thought in their heads and advocate for the liberation of women in the worst ways possible, by sexualizing underage females and showing how empowered they are when they choose to objectify their own bodies - but they think it is okay for _them_ to do it, because they are women objectifying other women and even a few of their male characters! This is why I am more happy than disappointed about not having Mindy Kaling in the Wreck-it Ralph and Inside Out sequels. They are too good for her, and Season 2 of Monsters at Work might feel the same way about wanting to recast Mindy Kaling. Domee Shi, Melissa Villasenor and Kelly Marie Tran are much better women than Maimouna and Mindy.

Common! Everything isn't the way you described. I don't see anything wrong with a female protagonist in fantasy or adventure films. The real problem is that films are written and produced at a much faster rate than they used to be. Old movies usually took years to film, so character development and plot was well thought out. Modern films are pretty zipped out, making it difficult for writers to come up with compelling protagonists.

Female protagonists should be feminine in order to set a good example for women who are watching the film.
