  • Just discovered this 2017 video's status changed from public to unlisted somehow! It's a remaster of a previous vid. Here it is-public again-for those who didn't originally view. Here are the re-upload notes:
Unfortunately, the first upload of this video had many bad spots that somehow slipped by yer' bullfrog-yeah, believe it or not. Here is the corrected video, without the bad spots (hopefully). The original had 125 views as of this posting. Original comments are with the original post at • More C&O Canal Spots
Here are the original liner notes:
In this video I've had lying around for a short while, we visit some locations on the onetime Chesapeake & Ohio Canal (yep-the one I keep saying I did a documentary on).
After passing through Ellicott City MD (where we encounter Barry the bubble man-as usual) we first trip out to C&O Feeder Dam #4 (there were 7 total). This marks the start of Big Slackwater, a place on the Potomac River where the river itself is suitable for navigation, and a canal wasn't necessary. The canal proper resumes about 3 1/2 miles up-at our next location.
And our next location is McMahons Mill, which produced flour until the early 1920s. Still slackwater navigation at this point-canal resumes 1/2 mile west of here. We'll also see the entrance to Howell Cave.
Then, onto Williamsport, the location of the once-very-busy Cushwa Basin, and the nearby Conococheague Aqueduct. Of interest is the lift bridge which once allowed WMRY trains to cross the canal to serve a power plant.
Then-the drive home, over a somewhat different route. Then the same route.
    Done on June 25 2017.
Many thanx to RUclipsr shimmuc for pointing out the errors!

Only 3 years ago. Before COVID, before the 2nd EC flood. Always lovely to spend some time with you and Dolly.

This is from 2017, when all was "well (no pun intended)." But-Barry's out there again these days! Wondering if we'll ever see days like this again...

It is one of the original 1920s U.S. Highways, and its first termini were San Francisco, California and Atlantic City, New Jersey. The western end has been truncated several times, and the route now ends at Interstate 80 just outside of Park City, Utah, near Salt Lake City.cool c & o canal vid . thanks

I've driven it from Delaware to Indiana, and wouldn't mind driving the rest! I know of its truncation...wonder if the original roadway still exists, at least. This is my route 66! Did two videos on the Pike as part of my Day Odyssey Series. Thank You for viewing.

bullfrog1954 What US Route was it numbered. I know you have gone over this before, my memory is just not that good.
Check out RV TV . On You Tube fantastic shots of Washington St. in the Cascade Mtn on Route 20

It's US 40, while Lincoln Hwy is US 30. Both routes well worth exploring-especially the parts that got bypassed.

I am very surprised at the absence of masks around the Bubble Man, You could not do that in California. My gosh is your state mask free now?? Great video. You are moving???

    • @bullfrog1954
      @bullfrog1954  3 года назад

No, we're still wearing masks! This is a 2017 video which somehow got privatized although it was public when I uploaded it. Discovered the error while going through my uploads. It got a few views originally before somehow being privatized. Don't know how that happened.

👍 Barn swallow birds. They make nest from mud.

So that's what those birds were! Now I know! Thank You! Just like a wasp species-they're mud daubers, one might say!
