I've always wanted to be the voice of my generation. Now I guess I am... but not in a good way (and that disappointment pretty much sums up the millennial experience). 🤣
Update: When I filmed this video in Aug, I was on Ch. 2 of my work-in-progress. I had been stuck on Ch. 2 for a long time😅 It's now mid-October and I am almost finished with the first draft! I thought I'd lost my writing mojo. It's back, baby! Just putting that out there to anyone who cares! Anyone? *crickets* Drop a 🍁in the comments so I know I'm not talking to myself and tell me about your creative projects.
This video made me more aware of the marketing and demographics of the target Rom Com reader. I was kinda surprised several years back seeing a display in the supermarket of a whole series of Amish Romance novels. I believe all the cover artwork only showed farmy rural type stuff with absolutely no Amish faces. I don't recall any buggies either. I'm guessing this tactic is used to draw in a wider potential audience.
I can't speak for other books, but my tactic for covers is to convey that cozy and fun vibe. Bright colors=fun. Invites the reader to let their hair down and escape. Personally, I try to appeal to a very specific audience because romance readers are very discerning (on a conscious or subconscious level). There are trope preferences, spice level preferences, etc... Appealing to the widest possible audience and running afoul of genre expectations may not bode well (I learned that the hard way!)
Teresa! Yes, you are a magnet for weirdos (and I resemble that remark😂) but don't fall for these evil, sadistic fiends who draw you in and then spout venom about your work. Beware of those beautifully wrapped packages with turds on the inside. As someone who does a bit of writing (mostly articles and essays) I'm probably my own worst critic. I appreciate and respect constructive criticism, but not anyone being mean and spiteful. I agree you do the best you can and then once completed and in print you move on. Of course, it doesn't always work that way if you have a blog and CAN go back and correct/revise/update, but even then you still need to move on eventually. My thanks to you for another excellent, inciteful and fun presentation. Looking forward to further journeys into the unpredictable and always amusing back alleys you travel from one of your top weirdo fans!. Nick
Thank you! 🥰 After many years and many books under my belt, I've learned to distinguish the difference between constructive criticism (which I appreciate and value) vs. mean/petty/unhelpful jabs. Knowing the difference really aids in a creative's ability to move forward, improve, and evolve. Knowing the difference is essential in saving one's sanity:) P.S. Weird is not necessarily a bad thing so long as you're interesting 🤣 and courteous, which you are🥰
I would love to read your books. I discovered you on RUclips and I have been following you since the beginning. But I can’t find your books . Please let me know where I can find them
you mean for the Hallmark channel or just rom coms that are like Hallmark Christmas movies? 🤣 I've been told this book is like a 'spicy Hallmark movie'
If I heard a book described as “painfully millennial,” I’d read that shit so fast! 🤩

Ah yes, selling stickers and buying a Victorian house, that's the millennial dream.
'tis my dream😅 and the book is wish fulfillment

i sure hope this movie gets made
just as we step into the 'death of rom com' movie era, but it's still doing very well in book form
Please don't ever change :)
❤️❤️❤️

awww thank you! ❤
🤣I've been dropping series hints. Just find the autumn rom com in which the heroine gets crushed by big wheels of cheese.
Oh, have you ever thought about writing anything the Hallmark Christmas movies.
you mean for the Hallmark channel or just rom coms that are like Hallmark Christmas movies? 🤣 I've been told this book is like a 'spicy Hallmark movie'
@@teresachaotic.corner I was wondering if you had sold any stories to them for broadcast.
Nope, I'm just an indie published romance writer. So deliciously low🥰
Hope you've got your Valentines day content ready to go ❤❤❤😊
At the rate I'm going, I'll probably be working this Christmas book well into July 😅 A Valentine's day rom com is a good idea💡
😂I want to read Batman's romantic novel
🤣 Batman is an expert on autumn vibes!
imo authors can learn a lot from bad reviews.
