I wouldn’t really worry about the subframe/boot floor it was only on the earlier M3 is because I had more power than the normal E46. I think 🤔 it’s not going to be a problem but I’m not a mechanic 😊

I couldn't see the cracks in mine until I dropped the subframe as the cracks were around the front right receiver. There was also a small crack and deformation to the left hand rear of the boot floor, near the left rear mount. It had also cracked one of the welds on the top of the front right mount. Three of the spot welds that mount the carrier panel to the left hand arch had also failed and cracked. Mine is a however a 2004 330d saloon without folding rear seats.
I would say do a fully built M50 turbo swap, m3 transmission but keep the normal bumpers, go full sleeper mode😂 the M50 would be more budget friendy than going 1jz or 2jz

How you can you not love the e46 touring shape , I if it wasn’t for the ulez and the fact finding a low mileage is hard to find I would buy one myself especially the 33d m sport in silver and the mv2 alloys seriously suite these
I think the boot is only popping up because of the upgraded struts or may they took the bonnet struts to put on the boot 🫣

budget sleeper build, is what I want personally, say set a budget of 5k to start with and do whatever you want, keep it looking stock, but make it fast as fuk boi
