I'm not studying to be a pilot or anything, but I just heard about Zulu time and was curious. Now I also know what UTC and GMT mean. Very informative and easy to follow video. Thanks!
Thanks so much for this! Very clear. I'm studying to get my drone pilot license and just got to the section in the training about reading TAFs and METARs. I was curious about how to calculate zulu time. This helped A LOT. Thanks again.
I'm fortunate to live in the US Central time zone, which made it easier for me to come up with some mnemonic memory aids on this. "Spring Dandily Forward Six": In the Spring when we observe Dst, Zulu is 6 hours Forward/ahead of us. "Fall Slowly Back Five": In the Fall when we observe Standard time, we are 5 hours in Back of/behind Zulu.
1:57 - So at 0530 in the morning EST, call your buddy at 0230 PST and tell him, "Woooo!, it's 1030 zulu, buddy!" *SLAMS PHONE* "NEVER CALL ME AT TWO-THIRTY IN THE MORNING AGAIN!!"
Daylight saving time does make better use of the sun Setting clocks forward means lighter evenings on the clock Setting clocks back means lighter mornings on the clock
DST was invented to hide the flat earth. There is only one time Zulu time. Everything else is a joke to confuse you. The time is the sun's position over the earth. If someone says the sun is directly over them, you know exactly on earth where they are. the 12hour clock is another deception to throw you off the truth.
One technicality missed in this video.... It's not necessarily the current time in Greenwich (0:27) or London (1:45). The Brits observe Daylight Saving Time, too, and during their summers, just as we in 48 states switch to ______ Daylight Time, they switch to British Summer Time. If you use the chart in the video to convert, good: It addresses DST. But just to be clear, you cannot convert to Zulu time by typing "time in London" into Google.
But if you don’t know what time zones you’re in, so it’s easier to use Zulu time, then why is Zulu easier if you still have to know the time one you’re in to calculate back to Zulu ? I get that I live in Florida so I always know What it is here. But pilots switch time zones so you still have to know what time zone you’re in right?
4:27 when he say 1300 +6, to me that means 1700. I get what he's trying to say but the way it was explained at lesat to me made it more confusing. For me it was much easier to figure out my zulu time at departure 1600 zulu, then add 3 hours, getting 1900 zulu
Wow after watching 3 other videos, yours was the one that made it click. Thanks for the video.

Can we all agree that daylight savings time is archaic and needs to go.
Daylight saving time does make better use of the sun
Setting clocks forward means lighter evenings on the clock
Setting clocks back means lighter mornings on the clock

And we Brits change our clocks on a different day to the US, just to add to the confusion!
Did a really good job at explaining this, thank you very much.
totally disagree the last minute was extremely confusing
Thank you soooooo much. This vid made everything so clear!
Why do you still use Central when you will arrive in Eastern? I got 1800 instead of 1900.
Perfect explanation! Thank you!
Awesome video, thank you.
Thank you Russ! I had a question, will the legend in the diagram also appear on the knowledge test or is that something to be memorized? thanks!
Lol that’s funny I thought my radio was still on when that ATIS came on in the beginning. GWINNETT is My home airport.

Even a broken watch is right twice a day!
Thank you. Although I'm just a trucker, I can keep track of the time at home with my Garmin Instinct now that understand what zulu time is.
Thanks!
last minute of video very confusing
If Zulu is based on the prime meridian then why isn't it Alpha time? It makes no sense.
All I know is that if you get on a jet in Florida you will get to California before you left !
May I use this with my drone school students?
Yes you may!
@@GoldSealFlight Thank you!!
So whatever time it is is Zulu. + or - daylight savings

Look at your watch.
Gold Seal Flight Training ...who wears a watch anymore ..??
@@domesticatedprimate8791 Any real pilot wears a watch.
During winter time we are in Zulu time but when the clocks gos forward in spring and summer . We are 1 hour ahead of Zulu time
Err, like literally millions of people wear a watch.
