      Oh, so that isn't the ingame support craft complement. That makes sense. I haven't played since before the Klingon expansion came out, and I was stunned that they'd have a carrier with that many fighters (or whatever). Seemed overpowered, heh.

    • @ODST_Parker
      @ODST_Parker 3 года назад +3

      @@jasonwalker9471 You CAN have two birds of prey and 36 fighters (two frigates or six "squadrons" of fighters per hangar bay) deployed at once, but the shuttles are not part of its in-game capacity.

    • @glitterboy2098
      @glitterboy2098 3 года назад +1

      @@ODST_Parker yeah, the game mechanics basically ignore the standard shuttlebay on ships, and the support craft inside. it occasionally pops up as part of a mission level or cutscene but basically the shuttlebay has no game mechanic to it.
      carrier classe of ships though have hanger bays which you can slot in combat pets though. Frigates are basically small starships, fighters are basically swarms of combat shuttles, and there are heavy fighters (liek the Delta Flyer) which are basically in between.. tougher than fighters but not as tough as frigates, and use smaller number of fighters per bay.
      these new carriers add fourth version, the fighter squadron. normally fighters only spawn 6 pets (3 per spawn command), frigates 2 (1 per command) and heavy fighters 4 (2 per command) the new squadrons pets are the same as the standard fighters but you can have 36 of them out a time, basically 6 fighters acting like one of ther old types. the overall stats are basically the same (the health and damage is spread out so that basically only 1 fighter out of a 6 fighter group is attacking at any given time, and you lose fighters from a 6 plane group as you take damage rather than a single fighter taking damage to their shields and hull) but it looks a lot more impressive, and it makes the overall unit of fighters a bit tougher to kill since they are spread out more.

    You definitely should do breakdowns on the ships of Star Trek Online, particularly the 25th century successors of classic ships. Examples I have in mind are the Narendra Class (successor to the Ambassador Class), the Reliant class (Successor to the Miranda Class), the Odyssey Class and it's sister classes (in particular the Yorktown Class, the ship class of the Enterprise-F), The Bortasqu' Class and it's sister class, and many more.

  • @Vespuchian
    @Vespuchian 3 года назад +30

    One of the better looking Klingon ships, I like the 'rounded brick' aesthetic that screams 'unstoppable force' without trying to look scary by putting spikes all over it or trying to make it look like it's made of knives.
    Having played some of the Klingon campaign in STO I am still baffled how the Klingon Empire remains as a functional government, what with all the assassination-based promotion systems, constant in-fighting between clans/houses, and the shocking willingness to commit war crimes if it means you get to stab a guy later "for honour".
    Maybe I just don't understand Klingons.

    • @3Rayfire
      @3Rayfire 3 года назад +2

      Klingons are weird like that. While the assassination based system and requirement of war seems like it would cause collapse regularly, it actually helps to clear out the trash. It also a system of actually killing off corrupt and cowardly individuals. In times of peace traitors like Duras rise to power without really accomplishing anything, corrupt politics is the order of the day. Since superiors can only be killed for showing cowardice in battle situations or in formal challenges opportunities to kill the corrupt outside of battle are rare. As for all of the things that aren't glorious but need to be done for a society to function low ranked Klingons do those, and get no honor for it, and no respect.
      They consider it effective with a "steel sharpens steel" mindset, but it wasn't always like this. The rise of the warrior class only happened within the last three or four centuries according to Enterprise.

    • @kinggoten

      @@3Rayfire its loosely based off the samuari culture, but it also keeps them from being a real power because they always have some sort of internal issue going on, even during the dominion war they still fight each other just as much as the dominion... and while we never see it(in the shows/movies) I do expect some in the lower classes do get respect like the ship designers etc..
      I honestly kind of feel like the romulan system of everyone is planing behind your back is even less sustainable because with the klingons you know where the person next to you stands because they are very up front with their intent, romulans will just stab you in the back for said promotion and all that miss trust does not suit a military focused empire, maybe thats why we never got a real romulan war because they would be back stabbing each other so much that the feds would just stomp them.

    • @3Rayfire
      @3Rayfire 3 года назад

      @@kinggoten Actually in the episode of TNG where we met the Ferengi scientist Reyga, we met Kurak a Klingon scientist...who was pissed off, Crusher speculated that Klingon scientists don't get much respect. The Klingons are United usually if they have a strong enough opponent to fight. There was little infighting during the Dominion Ear, just Gowron being a glory hound...which got him killed...as is supposed to happen to corrupt Klingons. But their sustainability had to be purely based on the work of the commoner underclass.

    • @TurKlack
      @TurKlack 2 года назад

      To be honest I don't think they really mean honor as we would perceive it. Well I'm currently only guessing and have no base or context to draw from I wouldn't be aurprised if the Klingons use "Honor" as a Smokescreen to lead outsiders away from their true nature
      Afterall from what I have heard from hearsay the Klingons are surprisingly effective and capable spies.

  • @kevingriffith6011
    @kevingriffith6011 3 года назад +68

    I feel like carrier craft are simultaneously rendered redundant by Star Trek's technology while also given a lot of opportunities that aren't really explored very well. The way weapons are presented in trek makes them seem like they have almost 100% perfect accuracy with projectiles that travel roughly the speed of light, so the traditional space-based fighter craft would be a sitting duck without extremely overpowered shields for a ship of it's type.
    That being said, a carrier loaded up with industrial transporters in lieu of traditional launch facilities would be quite a sight. It could literally beam fighter craft into the enemy's blind-spots or instantly rescue any damaged fighter craft before they can be destroyed. Making the craft highly modular could allow damaged craft to be transported back and quickly refitted with replicated components or even re-assembled in the pattern buffers of the carrier itself. Naturally the demand for energy and materials in such a craft would be immense, though, so the space savings on things like launch tubes and hangar space would probably be taken up with additional power generation and cargo space... but it would certainly be the most impressive carrier in science fiction to see in action.

    • @TheCJUN
      @TheCJUN 3 года назад +10

      Carriers could carry thousands of smaller AI drones, to overwhel opponents.

    • @cgi2002
      @cgi2002 3 года назад +7

      Interesting idea, but there is a key flaw. Industrial transporters, like all transporters don't work in conjunction with sheilds. Both the fighters and the carrier would need their sheilds to be down for this to work, that is frankly suicidal in battle unless you have defiant style hull plating, or a borg magnetic field.
      Your right though, fighters in star trek are pointless vs any faction with beam weapons. They are pinpoint accurate at huge ranges, with outputs that are devistating. Fighters without warp drives lack the power output to have suitable shields to be of value, as the warp core is essentially a huge power generator. The extention to this is also, those same fighters if they can't generate shields strong enough to be of value, definitely can't generate enough energy for their own weapons to be effective, unless they are armed exclusively with torpedoes.
      The only exception to this, is if your using swarm tactics against an opponent with no area of effect weapons. You'll take massive losses, but can chip away at an enemy over time.
      Realistically in a scifi environment were sheilds & advanced targetting exist, fighters have no value except defensively to intercept missiles. Offensively, lose the fighters and just send missiles. Even in modern combat, most aircraft serve as a munitions delivery system, if you can find a cheap efficient way to skip the middle man, you should, especially if the middle man is not expendable.

    • @TheCJUN
      @TheCJUN 3 года назад +1

      @@cgi2002 Good points, I was thinking using the drones like decoys/flares to draw fire and also as kenetic weapons. But since force shield cannot be penetrated in ST (other than energy weapons), that might seem totally ineffective.

    • @cgi2002
      @cgi2002 3 года назад +2

      @@TheCJUN as I say, at that point, replace your drones with torpedoes, use those. They don't even need to be directly targeted at a ship, you can use them like drones. Fly them around, force the ship to either destroy or avoid them, or just swarm a ship with them. Few ships can survive a dozen torpedoes hitting them at once, shields or not.

    • @kevingriffith6011
      @kevingriffith6011 3 года назад +1

      @@cgi2002 I can imagine a way that fighters could be useful in Star-Trek style ship to ship combat, but it's certainly not the traditional method. I imagine that even though the range on beam-type energy weapons is quite long, eventually that energy will disperse into space. Pulse-based weapons like the Defiant's Phasers are likely significantly longer range, as are most munitions, so it's in that range just outside of beam effectiveness that you'd see "bomber" type fighters loaded with torpedoes, and to deal with those I could see a purpose for interceptor type fighters, allowing the larger capital ship to keep at a safe distance while dealing with any fighter attack. Of course, this doesn't take into account medium-sized ships or anything of that manner and makes a lot of assumptions about star trek weapons... but that's my take.
      Edit for clarity: Essentially I'm talking about using bombers to extend the range and firing rate of torpedoes: you can only launch as many torpedoes at a time as you have launch tubes after all.

      While not using any new support Carriers by now, my Romulan Char and his Kopesh Dread have switched to the new Fighter Squadrons and i must say they are fun and the Alpha from 36 of them is not to be underestimated as they all have the abilitys of their normal counterparts, but multiplied by 6, that makes it really hard for my elite drone ships to be the prime craft, apart from them beeing much more durable, the fighters die like flies.^^
      but maybe i'll get my Vulcan Sci the new Caitian Sup Carrier, the multimission explorer is nice and the 4 Yellowstones are too, but i could try something new.^^

      thinking of making a klingon character, do they have more agressive skills or?

    •  3 года назад

      earth godzilla Klingons do well in ground combat, both ranged and melee. If your looking for space superiority, Romulans have that.

    • @kinggoten
      @kinggoten 3 года назад

      @@daddybondrewd7271 skills are the same for all the races/factions sadly they get unique traits klingons get ground buffs bonus melee/ranged damage etc, if you got the zen/ec alien race characters are mostly the best choice because they get an extra trait slot and many traits from lock boxes are strong depending what your going for.

    I suggest the Avenger, Odyssey, Dhelan, Haa'pax, Jupiter and Ar'kif for future STO content. The Jupiter is a supercarrier, the Oddy...1701-F. Nuff said. The Dhelan, Haa'pax and Ar'kif are unique Romulan boats and the Avenger is a twist on the standard Starfleet layout.
    Tying into your Wolf 359 vid, the Lafayette is an update on the New Orleans, which also has the skin for it.
    The Narendra, too: Probert's baby.
    And the Yamato-Class, which is a Galaxy-X reskin, would also fit. Maybe you can mention Picard being involved because he remembered All Good Things and that Enterprise-D.

    The warp rushing tactics was first deployed during the Dominion war with the T'Chava Kal class light carrier, in which it, and its BOP escort would independently warp into the minimum weapons efficiency envelope of an enemy ship, barf up fighters, and get out of dodge.
    However, such a "oversized warp field" design isn't really viable due to the technological limitations of the time.

    If more of these Star Trek Online lore videos in the works, I'd recommend working with Rick for the Certifiably Ingame. Most of the content is either general Star Trek lore or chapters in a solo Star Trek Online roleplay series that is currently part way through the Iconian War arc.

    Random, unsolicited suggestion: have you considered doing breakdowns on historic/current ships and planes? I have found that a lot of Sci-fi is based on either current models or historical ones. I would be interested in how you'd breakdown, say the USS Enterprise (CV6) from World War II, or even the more recent Enterprise that was just decommissioned. You could probably even work with a few history/military RUclipsrs for both tie-ins and where to find information.
