Star Trek Online introduced a warbird design that could split, called the Haakona. In a fun bit of lore, it was developed based on data that the Romulans gleaned from the USS Prometheus while they had control of her.
Don't feel bad about your pronunciation. I remember there was an old video on the warbird, and the narrator said (correctly pronounced) "The Romulan D'Deridex Class", but Google's auto-generated captions interpreted that as "the lung and the dairy dicks class".
Ah, yes, Romulus. How well I remember it. You'll find the predominant colour to be grey. The buildings, the clothes, the people. Did you know that the Romulan heart itself is grey? It's true.
Interesting thing about the Star Trek ships, is that they are all aerodynamic. I know that because when you accidentally drop a Micro Machines ship, it glides to the ground. That's happened to me several times.
I agree about 95% of that. I still have a couple sets of Star Trek micro machine spaceships, as well as a number of the playmates ships. The part I disagree with is the both cube is definitely not aerodynamic, especially with all the exterior grids, grates, pipes, and other structures. But that's about it.
The reason the Valdore class look like Klingon bird's of prey from the ToS movie/TNG era is because those ships were originally supposed to be Romulan (hence why they look like an evolution of the Romulan bird of prey ships from ToS). The villains of ST3 were changed from Romulans to Klingons during a script rewrite but the ship model had already been built and so was simply made to look dirtier (but the distinctive Romulan bird of prey feathers under the wings are still clearly visible).
The Romulan ctrl-c ctrl-v Fleet at the end of season 1 of Picard also appeared to have a few old school Romulan bird-of-prey meaning as in TOs balance of Terror.
your attempts to pronounce "D'deridex" sounds like you're channeling Porky Pig. Have done anything similar on the Klingon Bird of Prey. It is my favourite non-federation ship.
holy shed. a forced quantum singularity is far above and beyond what a warpcore would be. like a modern nuclear reactor compared to a steam engine. both fulfill the same purpose but they are on entirely different levels.
If I remember rightly that bit was a simulation. In one of the early TNG episodes some alien kidnapped Riker, and put him through a simulated future in which he was captain of the Enterprise, and Picard was working on alliance negotiations with the Romulan Star Empire. One background thing in this simulation was that Cardassians, and Ferengi, had apparently joined the Federation, and were serving in StarFleet
That scene is from the episode "Future Imperfect", the scene is supposedly set 16 years in the future (It's a Romulan trick to extract information from a captured Riker).
Yes, to politely answer your question. That was in a mind-game with advanced holographics cooked up by a lonely alien child trying to keep Riker around as a playmate. It’s TNG. “Future Imperfect”, Season 4, Episode 8. 🖖🏻
Not like they ever actually read the comments but for comedy value its spoken as Dee-Dera-Dex. Also on the power source issue I was surprise in Discovery that after "The Burn" this was not used/developed more as a power source.
I speculate War Bird is like Earth Ships are called Ships because "Sea of Stars"; Ergo Romulans may imply "Sky of Stars" so all Interplanetary Machines are "Birds" instead of "Ships"... Therefore "War" designations are for "Space Birds" capable of Interplanetary Combat.
The length that the D'deridex was designed with by Andrew Probert is 1353 m in length, taking this and the given schematics this results in a calculated beam of 988 m and a hight of 430 m.
The warbird isnt the only ship they forgot to put impulse engines on. Take a look the nebula in TNG The Wounded, no impulse drives on the saucer which always made me insane considering its the exact same saucer type as the galaxy.
From my understanding doesn't the Romulan's forced quantum singularity have to remain powered up at all times and cannot be powered down like a warp core can be.
15:11 Given that most military ships in real life are warrantied for 50+ years and most ships in Star trek lore have similar or longer intended life spans... *shrug*
The enterprise was already 50 years old by the time Kirk took over; having already had at least two captain prior to Kirk. Namely Robert Apil and Christopher Pike.
They did get around the bird of prey problem by saying that before the Vor'cha class they used a K'Vort class cruiser in TNG (specifically in Defector, Redemption, etc.) They then occasionally used the B'rel class smaller version which is then the staple in DS9.
With the warbird thing, you should have probably mentioned how Klingons have them too. Just the name for most alien ships in the Alpha Quadrant apparently.
An mentioned, the D'Deridex class was almost double the size of the Galaxy class; Enterprise D: Length - 641m; Beam - 470m; Height - 145m. D'Deridex: Length - 1041m; Beam - 772m; Height - 258m.
I remember that novel. The one where *somehow* The Romulans and Borg are allied and resurrect Kirk from his grave on Viridian III, and Spock can't be assimilated because his contact with V'ger makes the collective think he already IS a Borg, right?

Yep, STO classifies all Romulan ships as warbirds. Even the Scimitar is a warbird. My fav version is the Valkis Dreadnaught Warbird.
I'm partial to the Malem warbird using the T'liss Refit nacelles.
There was a time when I was convinced the Warbird could separate (like the Galaxy Class) it's top and bottom half. Or carry a smaller craft inside it.

Dilithium does not power warp drive. It regulates the matter/anti-matter reaction, that provides the power for the drive.

A "Runabout" is a shuttle mated to a warp sled and mission pod (on top).
To be honest, they didn't call the Warbird by it's Romulan name very often in the shows on purpose. It can be a tongue-twister for actors.
I remember Data saying the class name in the Tin Man episode.
That "bright vibrant green" is the same colour as Romulan blood.
