Your blessing to the 18 speed instructional videos my dude. I haven't even got in a 18 speed yet and you make this clear enough to understand the process mentally. Blessings and big ups to your success in trucking.
What separates average from great drivers is attention to details. Awesome detailed video. Explanation is on point. Experienced drivers who share knowledge and wisdom is priceless! Great video and stay safe out there driver !!
You do the best instructional videos on upshifting and down shifting. You show the H/L range and actually using the splitter. Most talk about actions, but don’t actually explain and show action like you do. Thank a million & happy trails 🤠
This couldn’t be more perfectly explained. Literally after looking at so many videos, this is the exact explanation of the button usage i needed. Video saved. Thank you!!👍🏽
Your explanation of the process of downshifting with the spliter is very comprehensible . I am a truck driver and that's how it's done! You may want to point out the different types of spliters, not just the 18 speed (grey splitter )but also 13 speed with( red splitter)and 13 speed (deep reduction blue splitter)
I learned how to drive an 18 speed in a heavy wrecker. Best explanation by far. Better than the people who taught and not teach. As another comment stated- knowing how much of your foot to lift off of the throttle. As I found out tricky to do it when you have the engine brake on also. Coordination, practice, time and knowing your truck (sweet spot for RPM's).
Fantastic video! As a newbee it takes time to sync your throttle foot with the up/down shifting. Day 5 with the 18 speed Pete day cab side dump trailer is tomorrow. Feel more confident now. Thank you for your help!
I haven't yet watched the full video but I've heard how well he's explaining everything. Thank you, the most helpful video I've found after hundreds of clicks on RUclips
Your the best RUclipsr to teach driving a 18 speed...i dont need to follow nobody else to learn to drive a 18 speed semi..with most of the RUclips guys when you comment asking something they dont answe..but you seem like guy that will help
Honestly your video is the one helping me the most right now. A lot of other videos they are not driving or talking about the rpm’s let alone the reving. Shift pattern is simple.
OUTSTANDING video my friend. I had my cdl back in 2010. I'm going to get it back and go otr. Just trying to brush up on things THANK YOU so much great video!
My man thanks best video of how to downshift. you definitely clear all my doubts about downshifting. Thanks keep it up. I just got my CDL I am about to start a job and it is a 18speed
Grandpa use to own a big rig. I was always amazed at how many gears he had to shift!😅 Even use to have bad dreams of me driving it and not being able to stop😂 Respect ✊
You are awesome. Thanks for filming this video. It really helped me understand how to downshift and skip gears in an 18 speed transmission. Have a fantastic day 🙂.
So correct me if I’m wrong, so you got 4 gears and the splitter is 2 1st gears so 8 gears in the low range and another 8 gears in high range? I never driven a 18 before in my life, but I tried to understand how it works but you made it so simple
Thanks this helps a ton. I drive auto rn but want to want to eventually get my own truck and it will be either a 18 or 13. I don't have access to one rn but I practice in Truck simulator which isn't realistic and kinda crappy.
Thanks very good video was wandering whenever you do the reving for the downshift is it giving it gas or just reving it until you put it in the next gear ?
Best transmission to date. Not the toughest but the truck never has to work with 18. Climbing a steep grade heavy from a stop, no problem, keep on splittin'.
Great and precise instructions bro 🙏🏽 when youre splitting downshift, do you wait until youre at the bottom of the gear to rev it up? For example if im in 16th gear and want to split down, do i wait for the rpm to be in the 11 to 12 range before i throttle up?
My friend and I just graduated class and we’d like to see a demonstration of where the RPMs should be when downshifting. For example we were taught in a 10 speed felt like we were ready for the world until faced with the dilemma of job day and being turned down because we had to relearn what we were taught with 18 speed so can we get a demonstration of where your RPMs should be when downshifting please brotha thanks so much God Bless
great video i was wondering if you were splitting gears on down shift video took care of that question been driving 9 speed for 25 years going on drive test soon for new job 18 speed this help aton thanks
man. thanks for video. one of best ive understood. one thing. down shifting. do i use throttle like up shift ? slide splitter then release throttle and push it again ? or do i push in throttle for the low or high gear to kick in ?
For down shifting the throttle is used to put it in the next gear. So if you’re in high 5 and you’re downshifting you’d put the splitter down then hit the throttle and now your in low 5. Then to downshift to high 4 you’d put the splitter up and shift down to 4th gear
In your demonstration when you was dry shifting down,I noticed the high range shifter was down when you was in the last gear but you was driving you never once touched the high range until you got to the 5th gear
Bro,l watched your video on up shifting of gears and now the down shifting.you just clearify everything..l just want you to make a video on how to start a gear when truck is stationary stop and when pull over and about to go..thanks..
I'm learning how to drive an 18 speed hauling reefer my question do u have to shift all low gears to get to high meaning go 1 through 4 without splitting low gears then go into high. I get the concept just trying to figure out I've watched other videos and seen it
Do you need to split every gear you down shift? And also say if you miss a gear and you’re trying to find a gear again do you always have to have the splitter on high when trying to find a gear or does it not matter ? Please let me know thanks g
Great videos man again once again thank you I just have a question I’m a driver who refers to my RPMs on speed a lot I’m switching to a 13 speed can you make a video or something just to let me know what speeds I should be in for each gear upshifting and downshifting that would help me out tremendously I think I got it from your videos I think I learned a lot about shifting but just in case if I lose the gear I just want to know what speed I should be at and what gear that would help me out a lot man thank you
I am fresh out of truck driving school My 1st truck is a kenworth 2006 18 speed It was either this or go regional flat bed This job gets me home every night I am lost down shifting I don't know if I'm catching it at the right speed versus RPM I just watched your video I'm gonna try that The boss thinks I should be able to jump from a 21 freightliner 10 speed double clutching to this 18 gear kenworth Like no problem It's kicking my tail There is no comparison Any suggestions Would help
How do you start back from 1 (start over) if you accidentally messed with the splitter on a peterbilt and weren’t taught 18 speed. I only know how to drive a 10 speed, freightliner. Just started driving a peterbilt.
Which truck models require to do double-clutching whenever downshifting? Is it the older trucks that require that? With your truck in this video, even though it isn’t necessary are there any benefits from doing double-clutch whenever downshifting?
Double clutch isn’t a method in any specific truck. It’s the way to up or down shift any truck. It’s the “right way” to shift however if you can shift without grinding then save your clutch
Best description I’ve heard so far. I’m going from auto to standard. Struggling with down shifting. Thank you
Hopefully you picked it up

I appreciate you brother 🤙🏾
I'm a first timer to his channel and yes both videos are well explained and camera well positioned..

I couldn't agree more. I now know how to upshift and downshift an 18 speed ;-D

That was an excellent lesson on 18 speed downshifting.
Very thorough and understandable.

What road speeds do you downshift for each gear?

Yes.. 4 gears on the low side 4 on the high side. Every gear you can split making it 16 your low gear before first gears makes it 18
just turned me into a down shifting legend
You are one of the best. Sir
Mane please keep the videos coming, I’m trying to get my CDL license. Thanks for the videos again
