    It's only now truly dawned on my how bias all the reviews I've been watching have been with exception to the pedal show guys. If you get a million subscribers please keep the format the same along with the mic and visuals, this kind of thing could be a sensation! I sent back my Yamaha THR30 I didn't think it sounded or felt anything like my valve amp, and the same goes for the GT core 1000 also recently returned. I'm leaning towards getting these thanks for your helpful and balanced review.

    Thanks for the review. I first saw this product like yourself when Andertons released their video. For the last year I have been trying to go completely wireless for guitar and headphone set up. I have the Xvive for the guitar to amp wireless but had major latency issues when using wireless headphones. I purchased many transmitters and receivers. Finally cured the latency issue when using Aptx LL coding but the headphones then couldn’t handle the frequencies from the guitar amp. In the end I ended up using Audio Technica headphones which sounded great, but wired. Which brings me onto your comment regarding audio playback quality. I guess these are designed for guitar tone in mind rather than audio quality, as in my experience good audio quality meant rubbish guitar tone quality. Thanks for the review. Could well be making a purchase post Xmas.

The ease of use and ability to practice along with anything that can be Blue-Toothed at any time of day anywhere in the house is the real selling point. A nice ease of use feature is that you don't actually have to use the phone. It is a way to get audio into it, yes. But the patches are stored right on the headset. The phone is a way of transferring new patches into the headset, but the patches are in the headset. And you can use any Bluetooth audio source in--I've used my iMac and iPad as well as my iPhone.
    And if you wanted to, you could plug the transmitter into your current backing track setup's final (or headphone) output. Or even your Kemper. (Just set up a flat amp patch on the headset.) These are versatile beyond themselves--they can be used with other equipment.

    I have a pair and love just being able to sit and noodle with a decent sound for an hour without bothering anyone. I’m not interested in the Gyro or stage. It’s so simple to Bluetooth my music from my phone and play along with effects on guitar .. I’m happy as can be with mine. The purist’s will hate them. But to me for a decent sound chilling with a beer, can’t fault them….good video by the way👍

    i have been playing thru headphones with my Mustang 3 and my phone so like you used to it ....not steping on them put away after or suffer the slings and arrows of management .....and the sound was ok .....put these on last night and wow ! what a sound ....no idea what i was doing ....and the battery was low from the factory so the sounds went south in about 30 minutes but i was impressed.
    cant get the app to sync with the unit yet. i will hack around today and figure it out. Support seems a littel light but I am just getting started.

    The app controls are based on the Katana amps physical knobs, hence the weird 50/50 splits etc. I'm surprised they didn't opt for the mkii design with separate knobs for each effect, maybe the onboard circuit for the Waza Air is based on the Katana mki amps. We need someone to develop a third party app that ignores the Katana amp design and just optmises control of the headphones.

    • @GuitarStuffChannel
      @GuitarStuffChannel  5 лет назад

      You are completely right. The whole concept is based on simplicity and convenience, but the app doesn't follow that principle. I think third party support would be possible if Boss published the midi information - but that seems unlikely!

    • @julianfp1952
      @julianfp1952 5 лет назад +1

      I was going to say the same thing. The controls in the software are logical and intuitive if you’re working with a Katana amp where that’s exactly how the physical buttons work and, importantly, will be how the patch being created in the software can then be physically tweaked on the amp if it is pushed down to one of the built-in preset slots. Having said that though I agree that it is not very intuitive to handicap the software used with the headphones by continuing to maintain that correspondence with physical buttons not on the headphones. In Boss’s defence maybe they think that a large number of Waza Air customers will already have a bigger Katana amp for live work so see some benefit in terms of those people having one interface for all their Katana devices. I definitely understand why it seems weird if coming directly to the Waza Air rather than coming to it via previous experience with other Katana stuff though and personally I would like to see some developments there, maybe Boss doing a specific Waza Air app that’s more intuitive in a stand-alone only-headphones environment.

    Thanks for posting this review. Feels like you've really considered the pros and cons of the product. Also helps that you've not got an interest in selling units! Was 90% of the way to ordering these, this review has sealed the deal. I think above everything else the convenience wins out. My playing time has reduced in recent years due to family and job commitments but also because of an overcomplicated set up which meant rather than playing I was tweaking, trying to find the sound I wanted. I hope the Waza Air will cut out a good chunk of this wasted time, whilst also allowing me to practice without annoying my family, neighbours and the cat!

    I'm not very good at guitar yet but I've bought these and they are for me great for practicing. I used vox amplug before and easy to say i used them very little as the sound was horrible. This is a huge step up especially for someone that wants to travel a lot with his guitar while practicing very basic stuff (and not bothering others with it)
    My main issues are:
    - Doesnt seem i can recharge both headphones and plug and the same time using the same cable.
    - Doesnt seem like i can change the settings on the app yet (maybe i m just too new to the guitar that i cant hear the differences or havent worked out how it works yet)
    - it doesnt have a travelling case..... after spending so much money, it would have been nice to have a case you could put it in. So i am gonna have to find a case that will fit the system.
    But i can see already how much i will be able to use it and how it improves my practice and that is "priceless".

If you want best possible sound of your guitar through headphones, this is it ! no kidding. Thanks for the review. I have had mine a few days and love them. I find playing to backing tracks much more realistic than any other system I’ve tried. It is like your in the band. I agree that 5 hour battery life is a bit short but it gets me through a couple of days. The transmitter is 12 hours not 2 so much less of a problem. I haven’t noticed the drift issue but to be honest I set them to surround most of the time. I’ll try the other settings more and see if it occurs. When I have tried static or stage I’ve dialled the ambience down as the left/right change is far too pronounced in my opinion. You can save loads of patches in the app and create playlists so I’m going to put together a playlist for each of my guitars that covers clean/crunch/lead etc.Having 6 patches in the headphones will see me through most practice sessions anyway.
    I have a couple of small gripes: 1. No storage case. For nearly £400 I’d expect at least a soft case. 2. No line out for recording. I think that would add so much for some people.
    Overall though my first impressions are good and I can see me using these a lot. They are way better than very quiet practice through an amp or any of my amps headphone sockets.

    This is a fantastic review. I have had my set for a week and there is not a single word I would disagree with.... This product is unique and exciting as a concept... but! It could just be done with a little more.....Love. I also find it a little frustrating that they slapped the waza product line on them I would have preferred that they had produced a ground up system and charged 30% more for the product. Please BOSS... be the boss, don’t cut corners for quick profit.., you have the technology and the infrastructure.
    I hope that boss have not patented this idea, as there are other companies possibly Yamaha or line 6 who could take existing software platforms and develop a product line in a similar direction.
    I am glad I bought my set but I could not promise that I wouldn’t sell them if one of these other company’s took up the challenge just as I did with my katana air which was replaced with the thr30ii. A decision that I do not regret even though the THR has a more limited interface.
    boss really need to have a hard look at software. It is weak by comparison to other players.
    Also the drift issue needs to fixed. However playing in the surround mode is still a new headphone experience I am glad I get to dip into.
    Great review!!!!!!

    Great review. Gave you a follow. ☺ Number 1 reason to buy, quiet practice without cables. Horrible not being able to play because the babies are asleep. Number 2. For players with no music room, you can be playing in seconds without lugging practice amps about. Number 3. Traveling in hotels, back stage etc. convenience. Sound quality not too much of an issue, as long as the latency is tolerable and you can play along as they say, then it's a winner. Augmented reality next. See you at the O2.

    Thanks for the review. Appreciate the honesty. As far as the software goes, any Katana owner will instantly recognise the familiarity and have no dramas in navigating it as Tone Central. New users will quickly get used to it. I personally love the fact that I can access it via an app and not have to connect to my PC as I do with my Katana Artist. Pitty the drift is real and there is no case but hopefully the latter will be fixed with a firm ware update and we can at least buy a case. Thanks again from down under in Australia..🇦🇺👍

I have been considering buying them but have concerns about shelling out so much without some reassurance about longevity: what happens if the batteries go down, what backup does Boss provide? It seems Boss is keeping a low profile which doesn't inspire confidence in this consumer...I think I'll wait for the next generation of this basically brilliant but imperfectly executed product...and next time around a case would be nice Boss!

    Regarding the effects chains i was very let down there is no stereo chain?
    Now i get it that due to the gyro ping pong delays and panning effects would not fit BUT
    why cant you use a stereo chain just for when you do not use the gyro setting?
    Like a surround with stereo chorus/flanger and delays? IF the gyro is not being used and the sound is
    stationary i see no reason true stereo effects can not be used? i always loved that old Rockman X100 tone and a stereo chorus is a must for it.

    • @julianfp1952

      I think the Waza Air might also have the clever stuff from the Katana Air where both the dongle and the amp (in this case the headphones) go into standby after a few minutes of inactivity and, at least on the Katana Air, the dongle has a motion detector in it so that when you pick up your guitar it not only comes out of standby but also sends a signal to the receiver (again, in this case headphones) to wake those up as well. The vision realised on the Katana Air is that you don’t even switch stuff off and on, you just pick up your guitar and play because the motion detector has woken everything up for you. It will be interesting to see if that vision is also realised on the Waza Air. Obviously eventually the batteries run down but in theory, if you are doing something like half an hour a day, the 5 hour headphone charge would be the limit but you should still get more than a week of play from that before needing to plug it into a charger.

    • @GuitarStuffChannel
      @GuitarStuffChannel  5 лет назад

      Very good point about the vision - just pick up your guitar any time and play. This system allows you to choose between vibration or sound as the way to 'wake' the system so it's a very useful feature.

    • @julianfp1952
      @julianfp1952 5 лет назад

      I was thinking about this a bit more. It seems a shame that the dongle claims a 12 hour life but the headphones only 5 hours but I was thinking - could that be fixed? There are a gazillion power banks on sale designed to emergency charge a phone. I looked at the Waza Air specs and they say just under 500mA for 3 hours to fully charge the phones so, even assuming 100% charging efficiency, that’s a max 1,500mAh battery in the phones to give the 5 hour battery life. Small 2,500mAh powerbanks are cheap and tiny. Mounting one on the headphones and connecting it permanently to the microUSB port on the phones should add at least another 7 hours of battery life to also give the phones 12 hours between recharges to match the life of the dongle. You would then recharge the whole lot at once by plugging the charger into the charge port on the powerbank rather than the headphones. Charging would take longer, 8 hours I would guess, but that’s only overnight so maybe not inconvenient at all.
      The 2,500mAh powerbanks are really tiny, typically either approx credit card sized and about 4mm - 5mm thick or the so-called “lipstick” ones that are like a tube of lipstick. I was thinking either Blutack a credit-card one to the back (outer side) of one of the earcups or cable-tie a lipstick one to the top of the headband. Either one would probably look a bit silly but by definition these things are likely to be being used alone at home so I suggest looks don’t matter and the added weight and bulk would probably be unnoticeable (which, given how little extra battery volume seems to be needed to get the phones to 12 hour life makes be wonder why Boss didn’t make the phone cups about 3mm deeper to build in a bigger battery in the first place).
      I’m overseas at the moment so sadly can’t try out my cunning plan myself but I plan, stock permitting, to buy myself a pair of Waza Air in late January when I’m back in the U.K. but I’d be interested to hear the results if anyone else gives my powerbank idea a go in the meantime.

    Come on BOSS, Give your loyal customers some feedback to the Gyro drift problem!

    • @epoch71
      @epoch71 5 лет назад

      Unfortunately there's not much BOSS can do. Any accelerometer will drift over time. Even the most advanced accelerometers in inertial navigation systems are susceptible to drift over time, and require frequent realignment. That's one of the reasons VR headsets have cameras or lighthouses ... to 'anchor' themselves to the room to compensate for the drift.

    • @stratslinger3921
      @stratslinger3921 5 лет назад +1

      epoch71 ...thanks for your reply. However I don’t remember any prior Warning on the box,...or by the Sales team....or in fact any of their Worldwise advertising,...including the BOSS Sales manager in the Anderton’s Launch Demo Video who had plenty of opportunity in the approximate 40min video to explain that there is a major inherent problem with Gyro drift and that therefore they can’t deliver the experience they are repeatedly advertising! I would have thought that was verging on false advertising?

    • @stratslinger3921
      @stratslinger3921 5 лет назад

      Also just to be clear the comment “Any accelelerometer will drift over time” by “epoch71” is quite correct but implies these may drift over an extended period. Unfortunately they drift after only about 10 to 20sec of use which in my humble opinion means they’re impractical in the “STAGE” mode and therefore don’t deliver what BOSS advertisers.

    • @epoch71
      @epoch71 5 лет назад +1

      Is the drift issue mentioned in the product documentation? They've put a button on the headset to recentre the unit ... how is this presented in the manual?
      It's unfortunate that Andertons (and Sweetwater) make no mention of this in their promotional videos but that's not unexpected. These companies have relationships with BOSS and I imagine "agreements"are made in regards to content. That's what makes channels like this one so valuable. Good, honest opinions with no agenda.

      Well maybe yes. I tend to use just a couple of tones. The app is poorly laid out and a bit clumsy to use. However, you probably need to use it to set up your favourite 6 sounds to start with.

    Thanks for the review, really enjoyed. Currently I play during late hours in a Kemper stage with headphones, for me they sound really good with the space function enabled, but as mentioned on the review not the most convenient with all cables and so on, so I was interested on the Waza -air. In your opinion, would it be on the same level tone-wise as I get on the Kemper with headphones? Or any advise on your experience after a few years now, if you kept both?... :) Cheers and thanks again!

    • @GuitarStuffChannel
      @GuitarStuffChannel  3 года назад +1

      Yes, I've kept both, but I've gradually been drawn back to using the Kemper for headphone practice. The main reason is the very poor editing app on the Waza headphones. The tone is not as good as the kemper (probably) but that's not really the issue. It's the ease of use which is important. Of course, you can use both and plug the waza into the output of the kemper, but then you've got a wire from guitar to the kemper. I've bought a boss wireless wl-20 for my kemper and I use it all the time.

    Hi,
    I would like to know if you can save audio files from playing through Waza-Air headphones ( via the mobile app and phone or PC) and whether the audio quality is a higher res than in the headphones themselves.Also iof you can put the sound through a mixer or DAW . If playing alongside a backing track from the phone,whether you can also save this entire audio file.?

      I still use them. Based on using these I bought the boss wireless transmitter to use with my real amp and find that great too. The only long-term downsides I've noticed? It would be nice to have a display of battery life on the headphones - They just stop sometimes. The bluetooth audio is a little bit fussy and not that great (but it does work).

      Hi there, I have only tried them with bluetooth music. Their performance is pretty average in that application - for example nowhere near as good as my Sony WH1000-MX4 headphones. You could use them using the wireless dongle on a mixer, but you aren't going to get hifi. Perfectly good for monitoring though or just something quick and dirty.

    Thanks for the great, honest review. Well timed since I just ordered a pair and now having second thoughts :((. But I think for me they will work out since much of my time is spent in hotel rooms where I do try to practice on my off time but the cable setup is really annoying. I think for the convenience factor they are tops. I do hope they get the gyro drift problem fixed in the future since there have been many complaints pertaining to this problem. Also, to your comment about them not sounding that great as stereo headphones, I think Boss was more concerned with the guitar tone and not the music. Have you ever tried to play recorded music through your amp speakers? Sounds awful since the dynamics are sonically different. Especially when you add compression, OD, Delay and more. Thanks again!

    Gyropscope effect... is that drift happening in all modes? Is there one where it isn’t drifting?

    • @GuitarStuffChannel
      @GuitarStuffChannel  5 лет назад

      Good question. As I understand it, this is a feature of the technology itself so it's in all modes. You can easily reset it by pressing on both side buttons simultaneously, but that's not really a solution.

    • @djt6546
      @djt6546 5 лет назад +1

      Egbertil The 3D amp like spacial sound can be enjoyed without using the Gyro but it gives a fixed position sound, regardless of how you move your head. The gyro is used to move your guitar sound or/and Bluetooth music in the 2 different gyro enabled modes. Although no one wants their expensive gyro headphones to drift, I gotta say when you want to stand up and rock out in your own little world of fantasy when no one is looking, the drift becomes irrelevant (because you’re moving around anyway). While not a perfect product technically, it really comes down to trying them yourself. Only then can you decide if they are a personal fit. So comparing quality with any other product is waste of time. They are a completely unique experience until competition offers an alternative amp in headphone solution. If you’ve already got a portable headphone solution you are happy with and gets you practicing loads, then this probably seems like a waste of money. But if you are looking for split second setup and practice through headphones to maximise practice time they are amazing.

    • @djt6546
      @djt6546 5 лет назад

      You “just” need a short extension/patch lead from your acoustic to connect with transmitter. I say “just” as you need to figure out which is the correctly wired patch cable. I suggest taking your guitar & Waza-Air to guitar shops and trying some leads to at least figure that out, even if you then need to buy the patch length you want on-line. Check out Waza-Air accessories video on “Aaron Short Music” RUclips to get an idea of what I’m talking about. Good luck 👍

  • @jaghej4118

    So you actually nag about details of this totally new experience? They are ground breaking, you can walk anywhere with your guitar and get tones that were ten times the money and only at neighbour disturbing volumes just a couple of years ago. Your Kemper pedal board remote is about the same price, and the headphones you have to connect to the kemper to sound better will be at least 400$. AND to get the kemper to sound as good you have to spend an eternity fiddling with settings. Yes there are bugs, but this is the future for 99% of all guitar players out there, they cannot awake kids, wifes hates when they practicing and neighbours shout at them. Just imagine connecting a VR glasses to them and allow peaple to enter the stage of an arena with their favourite band. I think manys lifes will be fulfilled.
