I was floored and thrilled to see Gargoyles merchandise on store shelves again and immediately bought it. Not sure when I’ll get around to playing it, but it looks gorgeous just sitting on my shelf.
Thanks for clarifying gliding onto a lower building. I interpreted the rulebook as saying that moving to a higher (relative to the origin) space cost extra movement, rather than higher (relative to the earlier space). Thematically it seems like gliding from a tall building to a lower one wouldn't incur the movement penalty from moving upwards.
@@WatchItPlayed Makes sense. That said, I will have to relearn that rule, since the gargoyles on the show didn't glide to the ground and then climb up =D
Maybe we should lobby the game designers to reimplement the "gliding" rule in a fashion that is more consistent with known physics... i.e. - if the destination building is lower than the starting building but within the glide distance, the gargoyle should be able to land there. (They could glide pretty far in the show... Right now the rule should be called "Fall rapidly and then climb back up.") :P
I picked this up and played last weekend. Loved the show and the game was simple and super fun! Thanks for the video!! Cleared up a couple rules for me.
I feel like you would be very cool to play board games with. Nice video. Me and my family just played for the first time tonight, we were a bit confused but had fun. I'm going to show this to them and play again tomorrow. Thank you sir.
I think the important question here is...do the assembled buildings fit in the box assembled or do we have to take them apart after each session? Game looks great, thanks Rodney!
The tower is too big and has to be taken apart. However, you can keep the other buildings together in the box. Box will not close all the way completely but it works. It's easy to assemble but I do see this as a small, small, small con.
I'm absolutely buying this! Having both RWBY and Gargoyles games in my collection will be worth it! And those figures! They're BEGGING me to implement them into Unmatched, Heroscape, and maybe even RWBY: Combat Ready! My one complaint is that Angela and my boy Bronx aren't playable, but I suppose it makes sense they aren't.
I'm a *HUGE* fan of Gargoyles so I'm super excited for this game. How hard is it to assemble the buildings? I'm very OCD, so I'm worried I'll get too anxious and accidentally tear one of them. Demona is a fantastic villain.
I found the assembly was no trouble at all. On the undersides of the pieces, they have color and letter codes to remind you of which pieces connect to the others.
Hey Rodney, I'm the artist who designed the board and buildings. Could get your permission to share a few screenshots from the video on my portfolio and social media channels? Don't have my own copy yet I can take photos of. Thanks!
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for. The card draw question is answered during the setup section. You will get skill tokens when an effect instructs you to.
A girlfriend got me the old game for my 32nd birthday and I was a little embarrassed by how simple and kidish it was. This new game seems to be the complete opposite.
The setup diagram in the rulebook shows the Coldstone token blue side up, while the Reawakening episode placard is rather inconclusive - the red outline around the Coldstone token on the placard appears to be just a highlighting effect, since it is used for the Xanatos and Demona standees as well. Is "red side up" official?
What I show here in the video is official - I checked on that too for the sake of the video. It's a highlighting effect, but understandably could cause some confusion.
If a named villain or minion has been defeated, do you simply skip their activations when they come up on villain cards? If yes, what about compound card effects that say, for example, "After activating Demona, activate Coldstone"? In this example, is the activation of Coldstone dependent on the activation of Demona?
Keeping me hopping :) Here's the answer from the publisher: You ignore the effect for the characters that are defeated, however other activations are not dependent on the previous activation, in your example, even if Demona is defeated, Coldstone will still activate (Unless it requires something done, like specials to come up from dice rolls).
Super excited for this game! Only thing is. If you can attack from any hight. Why even waste movement getting on top of a building when you can just be adjacent and attack. Kind of makes the building esp the skyscraper pointless

Hey, getting the spirit of the game is important too, so good work on getting that part down, and glad I could help you get the rest of the way - welcome to the channel and happy gaming!
Hey there. Great video. I have huge nostalgia and love for gargoyles. Just found this video recently. I have this game and am about to play for the 2nd time. However, I was wondering about the first episode. Does the healing on a daytime phase still work if Demona is already knocked out?
Hi Joseph, I'd normally try to answer this for you, but I lent my copy of the game to a friend and I don't have it handy to look up the answer for you.
Also this is the most gorgeous video. Your little effects are adding a lot to the experience. And I love the blurred out background with the components in the forefront. This is masterclass in terms of quality and visual enjoyment. Thanks for the inspiration as always
Question: reawakening scene. Villain card "cold fury". Coldstone was on the blue side. Card said to activate colostone. At this point do I move coldstone 3 spaces or do I move onto the next sentence, "Then, if coldstone is on his blue side, flip him to red side..."
I avoid answering card specific questions generally (too much for me to manage across all the games I feature), but my understanding is that you would activate Coldstone according to the Scenario sheet - so if he's on his blue side, follow the blue side instructions, and then afterwards you also resolve the effect showing on the card (in this case, if he's on his blue side).
I'm sorry if this was answered already. There are villain cards on episode 2 that have the villain move to specific spots. If that spot is taken by a hero, what do you do?
Asking a question, how would attacking at range diagonally? Cause I can count to the square in both ways of up 2 and over counts as 2 or 3 pending if range attacks count diagonally.
@@WatchItPlayed SO in the hopeful crappy display I put underneath you are x and have targets at 1 and 2. From x if you go diagonally 1 & 2 are 2 away, but what would 3 be? I guess I am also very stuck in fire emblem type range attacks where diagonally counts as 2. [x][ ] [ ] [ ][ ] [ ] [ ] [1][2] [ ][ ] [3]
If 2 players are the same distance from an enemy during the "enemy phase" the active player decides who the enemy attacks but who is the active player? The person who went last or the person who's turn is next?
The player whose turn it currently is, is the active player. The Enemy Phase is still a part of a person's turn. On a turn they complete the Hero, Enemy and Refresh phase.
Hi, I shot this awhile ago, so I don't remember off the top of my head, but whatever the video shows in the setup, is how many you'd start with (which, if I don't say you start with any, means you start with none) - hope that helps!
Great game and thank you for the video. But in one episode the Eye of Odin token is on the board but I can’t figure out what it does. Does anyone know what it does? In other episodes the data disks and spell book are used, but not the eye of odin
I just recently got the game but I am having trouble understanding the villian cards in order to active the daytime effect. Fo just simply draw villian cards or do you draw them each turn?
@@WatchItPlayed yeah so i understand everything in the game right but with one of the episodes (the steel clan one) I am having trouble undestanding the daytime effects. So for example if im playing xanatos when its my turn do i have a villian phase as well or do i just stay with my two cards and the villian phase happens on my opponents turn?
For the 2x2 multilevel building, the setup diagram in the rulebook disagrees with the setup diagrams on all of the episode placards with regard to the building's orientation on the game board. Do you know which is correct and which is in error? I see that you have it oriented to match the rulebook.
Thanks for checking on this Dustin! Double checked on this just to be sure, and yes, you're meant to use the rulebook (and video) for where the buildings are located.
How does minion movement work? Do they move up and down buildings like heroes do? Does Elisa move up and down buildings the same way the Gargoyles do, or is she stuck on the ground after starting, like the biker minions are? I've played the first episode (Reawakening), and the second (I think?) episode Temptation and Magic, and I'm not sure we played it right. One of the villain cards from Temptation and Magic called Biker's Ruckus showed new bikers spawning in a specific space (like A5) and it also showed a different location in the "move" action of the card. It read something like "Activate all bikers. Spawn new biker at A5." But in the move action on that card it said G4, which as I recall was on top of a building. Bikers weren't supposed to be able to climb up buildings, according to the special rules for the episode. Do you know?
Hey William, Elisa moves like the Gargoyles do. I do my best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I avoid individual card/scenario effects, as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!
Thank you for this! I can't find card sleeve info. Are the villain and hero cards standard card size? If so, how many are there? I'm ordering the game now and want to make sure I have sleeves ready so that I can maybe sleeve and play it as soon as it arrives.
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for.
@@WatchItPlayed I've watched that part again, but it's still unclear because you start off the section as though you've already played. Do you play one villian card in that round or is it one per player? Or one per villian?
@@stolenholiday5978 If you start from here, it might help: ruclips.net/video/a30vgfN_La0/видео.html - you'll find it explains that a Normal Villain Phase is just drawing and resolving a single card. Hope that helps!
I always avoid questions about replay value, because it will vary so much depending on a player's tastes. Checkers technically has one scenario, but many would say it's pretty replayable :)
The rulebook only defines "adjacency" in a rather drive-by manner when it first discusses movement, so I found myself a little unsure when it comes to adjacency with attacks. Can attacks, and other non-movement effects that require adjacency, be done at diagonals? If yes, can you count attack range by counting to the target with a combination of orthogonals and diagonals (i.e., can an attack with range 2 target H10 from F9)?
So we don't start with any skill points? These are only gained throughout the game and only by cards? Edit: My apologies you might want context. Trying to learn the rules to play with my family. We're Gargoyles fans and we just got the game this past Christmas. Thanks to any and all who read and or respond. Have a rad ✨️life!

Hi Walter, sorry I don't have an answer for you yet, I did follow up with the publisher, but haven't heard back yet. Once I do, I'll let you know.
How do you get skill points? How many do you start with?
The game will instruct you when you can gain them (from certain effects). How many you start with would be detailed in the video's instructions.
Asking a question, how would attacking at range diagonally? Cause I can count to the square in both ways of up 2 and over counts as 2 or 3 pending if range attacks count diagonally.
Hey Alex, I'm really not sure what you're asking, I guess because I don't know how you're interpreting diagonal counting.

@@alexb2062 3 would be 3 away - it doesn't cost you extra to count diagonally.
@@WatchItPlayed ok thanks.
How many skill tokens do players get at the beginning of the game?
Hi, I shot this awhile ago, so I don't remember off the top of my head, but whatever the video shows in the setup, is how many you'd start with (which, if I don't say you start with any, means you start with none) - hope that helps!
Great game and thank you for the video. But in one episode the Eye of Odin token is on the board but I can’t figure out what it does. Does anyone know what it does? In other episodes the data disks and spell book are used, but not the eye of odin
Oh sorry, I assume that is explained in the scenario it is used in, but I didn't cover those other scenarios, so I'm not sure.
I just recently got the game but I am having trouble understanding the villian cards in order to active the daytime effect. Fo just simply draw villian cards or do you draw them each turn?
Sorry, I'm having a little trouble understanding the question.
@@blaze1012 I think you should check 11:54, I think that will help you understand - let me know.
Excellent. Thanks, Rodney!
Yep, villain and hero cards are standard size. I believe there are 60 hero and 40 villain cards
@@WatchItPlayed game already arrived over the weekend and yes, 60 hero and 40 villain, all standard. But thanks!
Where do i get this game? Tried amazon and target. Nothing pulls up in the search bar.
I've heard it will release August 1st.
How many cards do you play during the villian's phase. The instructions are also unclear about that.
How and where can I buy this? I thought it was a target exclusive but it’s not up for preorder.
It should be soon!
@@WatchItPlayed thanks Rodney! Thank you for the awesome video as always
Thank you
You're welcome!
How is the replay value if there are only 4 episodes?
I always avoid questions about replay value, because it will vary so much depending on a player's tastes. Checkers technically has one scenario, but many would say it's pretty replayable :)
@@WatchItPlayed Thank you so much!! ☺️
Yep, all diagonals work, even diagonals between two spaces at different heights.
I'm glad to hear it! Makes it easier to explain. Once again, my thanks to you, sir!
We sure the gargoyles can't glide from one building from another when close enough. Seems odd lol
Very sure - checked on that!
Hey hey Neal, I shot this long enough ago, I don't remember exactly what I said in the setup, but if I don't say that you collect skill tokens to start, then you don't. Happy learning (and playing!)
Anyway to get this in Canada? Rodney maritimer to maritimer help me out!
Haven't heard anything yet, I'm afraid!
@@WatchItPlayed darn! Thanks for replying!
@@Nic345 Sorry I didn't have more info - I imagine it will be available wherever other Ravensburger games eventually become available here.
@@WatchItPlayed its Ok Ebgames( now gamestop) said maybe November. BTW HeroQuest will be available there as well!
I miss the mustache Rodney of old. That stache was tight! Will we ever witness it again???🧐
Not if I can help it! ;)

Rodney if your camera quality gets any better you're gonna burst out my monitor.
Get your 3D glasses - that's the next step!!
First to be second! ; )
There's a Gargoyles game? Someone tell me this is a good game.
Hopefully the video can give you a sense of it. I'm sure reviews will be dropping soon as well.
