This is the Godzilla game Godzilla fans have been waiting for! I've only tried it out playing two handed against myself, but I love this game. The art is awesome, the figs are pretty good, and the gameplay is top notch. I love the discard action as it makes sure you're never trully dead in the water. You get more than your bucks worth on this game!
Yes! And I love that you are getting victory points by shedding your opponent's deck. But the cards are numbered in a way that will always leave the powerful/base cards in your hand (the 0's that they can't take as trophies).

One question still - what does it mean when a Kaiju "receives one damage" when it is thrown and hits another kaiju (both receive one damage)? Do you deduct this from their energy? Do you get one trophy card (if it isn't a zero)? Both? Something else? My assumption is that it is just getting one trophy card since the monsters don't seem to have "health points" but this wasn't clear to me in either the rules or video. Thank you.
Darn it . . . one more to add on . . . when a kaiju "receives one damage" through being thrown or hit, can they play a card to defend against it? Or is it an automatic one damage (whatever that means)?

If you throw a vehicle at a kaiju: 1. Does the target Kaiju defend the 1 damage (if they have the card)? 2. Does the target Kaiju have to give the attacker a trophy card? Do enhancements last the whole game? Can you discard to move 1 space with momentum until you run out of cards?

If you successfully attack a player and deal 2 hit points, and you also have a card that tells you to take an extra trophy, you still only draw two from the target’s deck and both would be your trophies, correct?? Because I’m under the impression that you would always draw the same amount of cards as damage inflicted on the target, even if it means not getting an EXTRA trophy if you only landed one hit point.
Just checked with the publisher and here's the answer: The extra trophy must come from the cards you’ve already drawn. So in a case where yo just did 1 damage, you wouldn't get any extra. Hope that helps!
Seems like fun, especially as a huge Godzilla fan. I will say though, I wish the miniatures were resin cast paintable minis instead of what appears to be vinyl plastic. But I am a mini fanatic so.
Not vinyl plastic. They may not be as rigid as typical styrene models, but I've painted mine and the slight bendability they have has had no impact on paint paint jobs over primer.
Rodney, I could really use a video of you actually playing this game, for me the instructions in the manual are super confusing, and even with your good work on explaining them in this video, I really feel like I could use some aid with seeing how the gameplay actually progresses. Could you and your team come up with this please?
You should do how to play video’s on exploding kittens, bears vs babies, you’ve got crabs, throw throw burrito, on a scale of one to t-Rex and poetry for Neanderthals. The last two more then the others.
Not sure anyone knows and I can't find the info in the rulebook, but here goes; Vehicles like tanks and UFOs say they move toward the nearest kaiju with the King of Monsters breaking ties. But what happens if a vehicle is already in the space of a monster? Does it still move? Ex: A tank and Megalon are in the same space at the end of the turn. Godzilla is 2 space away and is the only other kaiju on the board. Does the tank move toward Godzilla or stay where it is?
When damage is dealt, is it subtracted from the energy? Also, does a player have to spend energy to use a defense card in response to an attack? Can a player defend against a throw? If the player with the King of the Monsters token has more than 5 cards in their hand during the Refresh Phase, do they still get to draw one extra card?
@@WatchItPlayed "When damage is dealt, is it subtracted from the energy?" Sorry, but I have the same question, but I did not find it "addressed in the video". You answered a ton of other questions though, so thanks for that!
Prospero Hall is quickly becoming a favorite game developer of mine, but I'm not holding my breath for expansions... Both this game and Horrified scream for more content, but they remain silent.
Well, it's been a challenging year for production due to certain pandemics events. Lots of things that were planned had to be rescheduled - so we'll see what happens!
Hello! Great "How to Play" video. However, can you or someone else please answer my questions. The rule book states about throwing vehicles: "Or, if another Kaiju is within the maximum distance, you may throw the Vehicle into the Kaiju, dealing 1 damage to them and destroying the thrown Vehicle. If there are multiple Kaiju in the space, choose which one takes damage." Obviously, it states that the targeted Kaiju takes damage. But how does that Kaiju take damage? Does it take damage like a regular attack if it's played from a card or if from the discard action, meaning if the attack isn't blocked and the target Kaiju receives damage from a thrown vehicle, does the attacker gain a trophy card? The rule book was not clear on how damage is measured by this type of attack. I'm especially curious if the attacker gets a trophy or not.
Hey Talionis, there is only one way that damage is resolved in the game (no matter how it is received) - which involves drawing cards and potentially gaining trophies. So that section of the video that talks about resolving damage applies in all cases. Hope that helps!
@@WatchItPlayed Hello, Rodney! Thank you for the response! This absolutely helps! Your videos are great, by the way. Your vid about how to play Wonder Woman: Challenge of the Amazons has got us excited to play that game next. Aloha!
Thanks for the great video, Rodney! Just got this yesterday and am excited to play. I noticed though that the rules do not include a components list and my game came with 4 red energy cubes (for Kaiju player boards) and 1 yellow cube. I don't see anything in the rules as to what this cube is used for. Any idea?
I have a question, I don’t know if it was in the video due to me watching it over and not being able to find it, how do you activate your ability in game?
You'll find that covered here: ruclips.net/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/видео.htmlfeature=shared&t=770 (you can use it whenever its effect would apply) - hope that helps!
When something is thrown at them (like a car), or when a kaiju is thrown through or into them. You'll find examples of that shown here: ruclips.net/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/видео.html and here: ruclips.net/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/видео.html Hope that helps!
Hi! Awesome explanation! I do have a question, though. How does Mothra’s ability resolve after drawing the new hand on the refresh phase? Does Mothra gain the building’s benefits immediately or do they have to wait until it gets destroyed by another Kaiju. Also, Tanks and Battleships don’t affect Mothra ever??
I do my best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I tend to avoid individual card effects/characters as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!
Thanks a lot for the explanation. The game manual was not good at all. Still, I have a couple of questions, I would like to Know If you can help me: Question 1: May I use any number of cards with momentum and then use a normal card? Question 2: When a card says "If the attack is not fully blocked you get", that only resolves if the opponent does not play a shield card; or if the opponent plays a shield card with lesser capacity of my attack, or both. Thank in advance.
I seen this game at Walmart when I was on vacation and I’m ow learning that the target near me has it for 20 bucks….. it’s going to be a fight between me and my kids on who plays gojira
Just recently sold my copy of the kinda boring Bandai Godzilla Card game and picked this up instead. Can’t wait to try it, but kind of sucks that it becomes a point collector and there’s no way to just outright destroy the other kaiju. Oh well, thanks as usual for the excellent game walkthrough!
Sorry for the second comment but didn’t anyone else have not enough point cards for the buildings ? I have an extra radar point card but only have three radar and the little bunker buildings I’m sort a card
If this game is well received and has good sales maybe we'll get new monsters and events. Personally want one based on space monster like SpaceGodzilla, Gigan, Hedorah, and either Orga or Monster X
So glad you enjoyed it! I tend to avoid giving personalized recommendations. What I like, someone else might not - but hopefully you see a few games on here that might be what you are looking for!

@@Youngviet So taking damage is really when you lose an attack (not successfully block by defending) resulting in the attacker gets to draw cards from your deck and adds the one with higher dominance to the trophy pile. It's not a tally or running point system like other games.
So to clarify you don't lose energy if you take damage or anything else other than taking cards? My wife and I played you lose energy based on the amount of taken damage AND then they take the cards off your draw pile. The rules never explicitly outline the penalty for taking damage other than the draw pile cards but they talk about it like it has another value.
Hello Rodney, thank you so much for this video. I have a question in regards to the enhancement card. A player (without the king of monsters token) has 5 cards on hand. When the enhancement card is being played, is the enhancement card still considered on hand (because it is still being played and not discarded)? My confusion here is during the end of each round when the player gets to draw the 5 cards again. For example, a player stacked the enchancement cards and have two enhancement cards on play. During the end of the round to draw the cards again, does the player draw up to 3 cards only (because of the two enhancement cards that are still in play)? Or does the player draw the usual 5 cards (with the two enhancement cards still in play) and therefore techincally has 7 cards? Thanks.
Reshuffle a deck anytime it’s empty and you would have to draw. So if there are not enough cards in the damaged Kaiju's deck, you shuffle their discard pile so that you can continue drawing cards for damage.
No, because you "either" play a card for its effect, or do the discard action, so once you play a card without momentum, you lose the option to discard a card for that turn.
Thank you for this! In my ignorance, I’m not really sure why we would choose to pass. As a result, I’m not really sure how attack turns naturally end. Can anyone help explain? Thanks.
You might choose to pass because you don't have a card you want to play. Something like this is more likely to reveal itself when you're playing. It will make sense in the moment why you would want to pass once you are looking at your options and making a decision about what you want to do for your turn.

@@MichaelYork629 That's an option for those capable. But it doesn't mean I cant wish that the version we got didnt need modifications.
I cant wait to play. fyi. I picked up a copy on amazon for 17 bucks.
Have a great time!
Rodney, I could really use a video of you actually playing this game, for me the instructions in the manual are super confusing, and even with your good work on explaining them in this video, I really feel like I could use some aid with seeing how the gameplay actually progresses. Could you and your team come up with this please?
Thanks for the interest! I talk a bit about that here: ruclips.net/video/EdtDuvIUa6A/видео.html&t=342
This helped a lot thanks
You're very welcome!
Thank you Rodney
You're very welcome Kate!
You should do how to play video’s on exploding kittens, bears vs babies, you’ve got crabs, throw throw burrito, on a scale of one to t-Rex and poetry for Neanderthals. The last two more then the others.
Thanks for the interest.
If it's already in the space with a monsyer, it won't move.
Hey there, these question are addressed in the video, so I need to direct you there for the information. Cheers!
@@WatchItPlayed "When damage is dealt, is it subtracted from the energy?" Sorry, but I have the same question, but I did not find it "addressed in the video". You answered a ton of other questions though, so thanks for that!
@@MegaLitefoot You'll find the answer covered here: ruclips.net/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/видео.html
Aloha!
@@talionis9391 Happy adventuring (and tank throwing!)
Any idea?
Hey Matt, it's for one of the kaiju abilities.
@@WatchItPlayed oh I see now, thanks!
Components list is found on the front cover of the instructions 👍🏽
I have a question, I don’t know if it was in the video due to me watching it over and not being able to find it, how do you activate your ability in game?
You'll find that covered here: ruclips.net/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/видео.htmlfeature=shared&t=770 (you can use it whenever its effect would apply) - hope that helps!

Very well done video!

I still dont get this game how are small buildings destroyed? Is it when I stop on a tile with them?
I hope they add new monsters the game is really fun.
Thanks a lot for the explanation. The game manual was not good at all.
Still, I have a couple of questions, I would like to Know If you can help me:
Question 1: May I use any number of cards with momentum and then use a normal card?
Question 2: When a card says "If the attack is not fully blocked you get", that only resolves if the opponent does not play a shield card; or if the opponent plays a shield card with lesser capacity of my attack, or both.
Thank in advance.
1) Yes
2) Fully blocked would mean all of the damage is blocked.
Hope that helps!
I seen this game at Walmart when I was on vacation and I’m ow learning that the target near me has it for 20 bucks….. it’s going to be a fight between me and my kids on who plays gojira
The game before the game!
Sad Rodan isn't in it :/
Expansion packs are possible so dont lose hope yet
We didnt know how to play this and we know how
So glad this was helpful!
Hope you have a fun time with it Erik!
Sorry for the second comment but didn’t anyone else have not enough point cards for the buildings ? I have an extra radar point card but only have three radar and the little bunker buildings I’m sort a card
Not sure about that.
If this game is well received and has good sales maybe we'll get new monsters and events. Personally want one based on space monster like SpaceGodzilla, Gigan, Hedorah, and either Orga or Monster X
I wouldn't be surprised!
@@WatchItPlayed will you do a gameplay of the game? Or have you already done one?
@@AlexMartinez-gv7hy Not likely, have been having trouble getting game plays in these days. So many games, so little time!
This is the first strategy board game I've ever played and I really loved it! Which other would you recommend me?
So glad you enjoyed it! I tend to avoid giving personalized recommendations. What I like, someone else might not - but hopefully you see a few games on here that might be what you are looking for!
Try Pandemic if you want to give a co-op game a try.
GKR Heavy Hitters is a good game too but more on the pricey side. Tokyo Clash was perfect for when I was craving GKR gameplay ever since my friend (who owns a copy) moved to another state.
When does this get released?
I ordered it from 'Target.com' last week and it arrived yesterday. I also hear it is on shelves now.
It is available now.
I got it last week at Target
Yep, it's out. Picked up my copy at Target last week.
Would you be able to state what the card sizes are? I'd like to try to find sleeves that would fit these, or as close as I can.
The same as Magic The Gathering type cards.
@@WatchItPlayed yeah those sleeves have worked well for mine.
Looks awesome. If you discard to get momentum can you right after play cards from your hand?
Sure can!
What happens if your energy meter reaches 0? How do you get more energy? Do you need energy to destroy buildings?

Do I want this game? It looks like I do.
Glad you enjoyed what you saw Jeremiah!
Sorry to even ask this, Is throwing a vehicle at another player considered a ranged attacked if it's thrown across a few spaces?
Av very understandable question! No a throw is not considered a ranged attack. You'll find some answers like this in their FAQ: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2451671/godzilla-tokyo-clash-rules-faq-creation-thread-add
Can someone explain what the energy sources part of the Kaiju mat is for? Is it just an explanation of what you get for destroying buildings?
Yes, that's just meant to act as a reminder.
Hi thanks for the vid! When u take damage what is the outcome of the damage? I'm trying to dive into this game and it is the first of its kind iv played

About to play this with my two boys (8 and 11), and maybe I (most probably) missed something... but how do you record damage?
its starts on the 10:00
@@Youngviet So taking damage is really when you lose an attack (not successfully block by defending) resulting in the attacker gets to draw cards from your deck and adds the one with higher dominance to the trophy pile. It's not a tally or running point system like other games.
Exactly.

Thanks.
Enhancements do not count against your hand limit (they are no longer considered to be in your hand). Hope that helps.
Question how many defense cards can you play to defend an attack?
One card.
Rodney bought this because of how great this video was. I can't find it any where, but what card sleeve size will work for this game?
I believe standard Magic sized, but I loaned my copy of the game out, so I can't check for you
@@WatchItPlayed OK thanks
@@WatchItPlayed Oh and how dare you share LOL
When my library is gone, should I reshuffle the discard place?
Reshuffle a deck anytime it’s empty and you would have to draw. So if there are not enough cards in the damaged Kaiju's deck, you shuffle their discard pile so that you can continue drawing cards for damage.
Question , after you play a card without momentum can you then discard a card to gain momentum and keep going with your turn ?
No, because you "either" play a card for its effect, or do the discard action, so once you play a card without momentum, you lose the option to discard a card for that turn.
If a Kaiju takes damage from a thrown vehicle or another Kaiju.... that generates trophies?
You got it.
Can you play multiple defensive cards in to stop one attack?
Nope, just one.
@@WatchItPlayed Appreciate the quick reply! We chose to wing it and you’re right, it kinda made sense on when to pass. Cheers!
