Im same age as barton and was obsessed with surfing in my younger years. I didnt surf for 17 years and recently finished modern treatment for leukemia and 1st thing i did when out of hospital was buy a new board. Paddling out and positioning felt like yesterday until i stood up and there was no footwork at all. Takes a few minutes of standing time to start to get a feel of it but everything else never goes away

I've had leg and back problems for years but slowly getting worse the last three years i having a hard time walking lately I had a hip MRI last week so I'm supposed to find out this week what they think yeah I gave up my doctors years ago they just didn't seem to help, so I have abused my body for years. hope I can get it to start healing again, I'm 67 years old and was Surfin okay until the last couple years it's been a battle to stay in the water.

Any way I can relate to this post. I used to just push it ,I'm going to do what I believe just get out of my way. But the body just can't anymore, so thank you for putting up with my abuse body, but I'm not going to do that to you anymore

Hey mate! This is s really common dilemma. I see a lot of surfers with advanced degeneration of their spines or hips staying out of the water because they imagine there’s no other option. Over the years I’ve seen many of the same surfers return to the water surfing after simple interventions. Unfortunately it’s not one size fits all and very much case dependent. If you would like me to give my opinion please contact me via my Instagram account, where I would like to see x-rays - MRIs and know a little bit more about your problem.
      All the very best
      Jason
