- In this episode of The Stoked Bloke Show host Barton Lynch returns to the Pipeline Studios after months of being bed ridden and combatting herniated disc nerve pain but his recent surgery has the smile and the stoke back and he and Peter PK King look at the WSL Final Five, the recently released 2024 world tour schedule, the BL Blast Off Video Challenge and my new video game launch November 17th Barton Lynch Pro Surfing.

I'm 66 , I hurt my back when I was 30 and have lived in pain ever since. I went through a suicidal period after 3 years and thankfully, God helpt me change that to a desire to live life as much as possible tell it ends. It's be a hard journey, but so worth it, and 10 grandkids to boot. This year the body just will not do things, I learned to just push it no matter the pain over the years, but it just won't anymore , I couldn't walk in January, so I have set my focus on becoming healthy. With P. T. and acupuncture I am improving, even surfed again recently, but I can do so little, that I may need surgery, hip and back. Trying to avoid it but maybe to far gone. Hearing your story is encouraging to know your doing it so hopefully I can too.😊
So sorry to hear that brother, stoked you found your positivity to keep living and those grand kids are a great reason to keep your dream alive. The surgery is a great option when the pain is too much and progress just not happening so if you can get it or have it I would suggest, short cut to living again I reckon.

Hey, if it means anything to you I'm having both my hips are placed in a period of 3 months. I had just enough of my left hip do rehab the right. To a quality surgeon , it's just like changing tires. The technology in hip surgery has come a long way. Sounds like you've been through a whole lot, just keep giving thanks and we can overcome this

Barton, if you want to stop getting injured just go ahead and buy insurance. You'll never use it and you'll suddenly be healthy as a horse for as long as you're paying your premiums. 😏

Aye, mentioned I'm in the middle of both my hips being replaced...so amazing in the healing process when you are post-surgical and reach the point of being pain free !!! Damn mate, I thought I had gone through a lot and you have just gone through so much more. Approaching my 60th in August and so grateful for new orthopedic life ! Had tons fun wearing them out...shout out to everyone that has been able to afford extensive surgeries and get back to life and living 🤙🏼🤙🏼

Glad your surgery is working out. I had the same surgery about 5 years ago, last year had to go back for complete spinal fusion surgery s1 L5L4. I got a cage in there and again it's working out super great. This one's a one year recovery. Also had both surgers / rotator cuffs done. Those worked out great also. I'm 65 and need to get back in the water .. this is how we are, right,,Good luck ,,JG
Atleast you got everything done around the same time and will be back as good as new after the overhall, hard to be patient hey its a challenge for the mind because I gotta get back on my board too. Thanks for sharing and wishing you a speedy recovery.

I’ve been out for a hernia then found out had two heart problems one moderately blocked artery no stent needed just yet and irregular heart beat had a operation ended up with collapsed lung and internal bleeding 😬 one year anniversary feeling good and my blood my dog has just bolted on the lead and ripped my rotator cuff ! MRI coming maybe surgery … missed this poddy but remembered you had shoulder injury so googled it and found this. Good to see your positive attitude as always. Gonna try stay positive after 35 years of surfing it’s been a long time out and maybe another year to follow. Anyways keep at it 💪🏽

Onya mate , good to see you have recovered.Nearly went the surgery route for a herniated disc in Hawaii in '84. Luckily I scraped through and at seventy two still going strong. I was living in the Captain Cook towers in town at the time and I couldn't get out of bed to piss. Much Aloha at the time from my girlfriend who stood by me and cared for me until I finally recovered, thank you Jessica.
We all need someone to help us in our time of need so good on yah Jessica and glad you are going good brother.

just buy catastrophic insurance (something like that). This insurance is for if you have a major health issues ie heart attack, cancer etc but, it's much cheaper then regular health insurence.

For WSL title, what about what NASCAR does - have a "playoffs" - with 10 races to go only those top ten are eligible for the title. Then you have race within a race. In surfing, with, say, 3 events to go the top five (or some number) compete in the final events against each other either with or without a full field.
Love your ideas and how you look for different ways for them to grow the sport.
I had back surgery when I was 16, had to be a half man knee boarder for a year during the pain. Nothing else would have resolved the pinched nerve.
Glad you are all good now mate and better a kneelo than nothing at all.

Lost my mom oct 25 at 86 was here caring for her. Came back to surfing at 60 after virus endures and I have spineal subluxation of neck and back but no like doctors I stretch.
