Yeeeeeeeew, 72 here and just returned from a two hour sesh at NJ !… Can’t quit or you’ll freeze up!!! 😎🤙
Gary has schooled generations of surfers in big surf. Happy to see he's still at it. Salt water heals all wounds and acts as a fountain of youth.
Totally agree 100%!!
@@markosteen2704 I agree 92.2%
But man those urchins will bite ya and the bacteria will swell ya right up lol
I met Gary in the early 70's in Brazil. He is a great surfer and fantastic shaper board builder. He was also making some amazing balsa wood boards. He told me of some of world travels and places he surfed. I had a chance to surf Saquarema when he was out with many great friends from that time. I miss those days! He is a great person and a surfing legend well know throughout the world. Great seeing Gary still ripping away. Thanks for the video as it brought back some many great memories of my surfing days. Aloha!
Still "ripping"
Some of the best boards I surfed in the 80’s and 90’s were shaped by Gary. Great to see him still charging. Huge respect
"Aging is the Gift of Life"
Gary certainly knows how to unpack that gift!
and Yeah... real watermen take the precautions to survive... put your gear on, board in hand... just in case!
He's been around long enough to know that things can go bad real fast....
Excellent video!!
I will be 75 in a few weeks and my plan is always to surf better tomorrow than I did last year.
It is possible to find ways to work around the creep of age and enjoy surfing as much as I always have 😊
I have a new model coming out in a few weeks and I am paid to surf... so life as an old surfer can be totally awesome!!!!
Good on you Rick! Much respect.
Hey brother of the wind, I'm an old fart and would be interested in that. How may I check that out?
@@ronaldaguilar3832 Caribbean season is ending but hit me up next season (Sept-Mar) trsurftrips.com/cabarete-location
@@RealSurfStories thanks I'll do that
I remember visiting him at his factory in Oceanside. We were a handful of Van Isle riders with no exceptional skill. He didn't care, he still welcomed us.Gary is super kind and encouraging.
Thank you Gary!! I'm 65 and remember surfing the pier, harbor, buccaneer, Cassidy st. Even surfing some of lambrisi's old boards. Living in baja. MY Spot is salsi. Man!! You give me inspiration! Thank you brother!!
Gary is a dear friend and possibly the 'purest' surfer I've known-no golf, no snowboarding-but plenty of surfing, this shows you what that approach can do for a person... Happy Birthday by Brother...
Coolness does not care about age. Go Big, Gary!
5 years ago i went to Saquarema in Brazil and find him in the outside...só cool , legend and inspire my generation ....Legends forever!!! Nice vídeo!!! Aloha from Brasil Ubatuba
This guy ROCKS he makes me feel young at 59YO YEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved my Linden boards!! Best shaper EVER!!! Soo great to see Gary surfing and enjoying life!! Keep it up young man!!
73 year young Gary Linden shows us the power of will through the amazing work of Tony Roberts. Cheers! 🤙🏼
Thank you Marcel!
I think I met this dude on Sunday near gas chambers (Oahu). It was my first time in anything that big and he was super friendly and cool. So many surfers are selfish assholes but this guy spreads the love!
Another guy keeping me stoked. My plan is to pass on the favour one day. Too many people think you have to stop at a certain age, so never try. If you look after yourself, choose your parents carefully, accept inevitable limitations and enjoy what you do there is a lifetime of joy ahead. Yes, luck is in the mix but it’s also generated by your life choices.
I'm 67, Gary is an inspiration.
Rad! Gary is such a nice man, great shaper, big wave charger. I stayed in the "shed" out back at his home bavk in the 80s 90s on west coast surf trips. Awesome to see him charging.
Nice to see ya still getting after it Gary! I’m 53 surf as much as I can and hope to still be surfing at your age brother! Truly inspiring dude!!! 😎🤙 for the dream!
Go pops! I’m 53 and still surfing at a fairly high level… hopefully I’ll still be in the water in my 70’s🙏
Kelly is in his fifties and worldchampion to come. It’s all in our will and mind.
No, the body deteriorates due to aging that’s why you don’t see the break crowded with 80 year olds!
@@wishbone5785 I don’t live with that mindset! If I can’t surf for some reason, I’ll fuckn bellyboard, if I can’t bellyboard, then I’ll bodysurf and still get barrels…. If I can do that then fuckn shoot me! The day I, for some reason can not get into the ocean, I’m already dead! With this mindset, I will live!
I hope I can be like that in the water if I'm alive until my 70's..so admirable this guy..
Hi ! I am also 73 years young and be the oldest surfer girl in France . Yeah 🤩🤙🤙
thanks Gary you give me hope that i can keep surfing on my trip to 80 i am 71 and my pop up been playing up but never give up cheers jo
stay rad!
Man I love this guy . What a pro . I've seen a guy who's 84 with a body of a 40 years body builder . Weight training and muscle strength is key as we grow older
appreciate your perspective...in my opinion yoga and diet...flexibility even more important than strength
Wow! Who would have thought when my dad used to drop us off at Crystal Pier that we would even live to be 73 let alone still be active. Crepes after a session were one of the highlights of my youth. I'm glad you stayed in the life.
Two of the best boards I ever had, when I was a teen, was shaped by him. Gary Linden surf board used to be one of the best
An example for all of us 🔥😎🤙🏻
🎯
Great to see another young fellow still active in the riding game: I surfed alot in the mid 60's and 70's east coast sand break! Now I surf the white waves of snow here in North Idaho at my almost young age of 79 this year! Keep it up we'll show the youngster how to live it forward! Nice brother!!
Our stories are very similar . I’m near you I’m Montana at Lost Trail. As I write you I’m in Oahu 🤙🏻
Love the fact that there are people still surfing and skiing deep into their 70s. I'm only 38 but seeing and hearing about guys like you inspires me to work out hard and take good care of myself so I can surf, ski, etc for decades more.
@@willzinc6137 the guys I grew up with and skied with were all older than I. They were the studs with mountain climbing of Everest and more years of experience than I. I still ski with them all over the western U.S. You still have many more years of the thrill of life, but treat it wisely. Live well
@@shaunwhite8332 That's awesome. You too!
Started surfing at 62 and 71 now. Surfing is the best!
He's inspiration for all of us. Congratulations.
Thank you! There are a lot of my friends in the upper ages still doing better than most of the guys out there. I’m still playing baseball in so cal and fire fighting in Montana. This is still the best time of my life, so take care of yourself and keep learning with a smile on your face and charging hard
Nice! I live on Kauai . I’m 58. There is a ton of 65-75 guys still surfing 10+
Awesome. Surfing big waves like this?
Yes for sure!
Well done. Good to see you out amongst 'em .
Gary, You inspire and encourage, Nothing but love for you bro. I'm heading back to Europe soon but will be back in SM next year for my 72nd. Hope to see you out front. Tony
I'm 68 and still riding a 27 liter board, right now it's a 5'4" RNF 96. My surfing is still at a high level but my sessions are getting shorter. After 3 hours I'm pretty well spent.
Try 39-40 liters, you’ll have more fun. Not about the liters.
@@thatismattjohnsonjohnson3146 I'm still going past vertical, doing loops, sliding backwards after a turn and long rock and roll floaters. I wouldn't be able to do that on a bigger board. But yeah, when it's time I'll go up a few liters at a time.
@@RealSurfStories Asi es Broder.Saludos cordiales desde Chile
Although I am a skater and only surfed for a few years this man is an inspiration to keep on going with great passion for what you love to do. Keeping ripping, water, snow, whatever
YES!!!!
Gary basically created a chance for people to earn a living surfing big waves and led the way of the progression of big wave surfing. Such a cool guy. We were shooting a big wave documentary and he made himself available for interviews with a smile
I've surfed Todas with that 73 year old man several years ago . In fact more like 20 + years ago. Was maybe half the size of this film. Rode his boards for at least 15 years. Just saw him today in Oceanside..
Gary made me a quiver for a trip to Australia back in the 90's. I picked them up from him in Oceanside back when the place was way more seedy than it is today! haha. Loved those boards. So stoked to see him surfing. Very inspiring!
This is my second attempt to leave you a message! I'm from Honolulu Hawaii and I've surfed all of my life and I'm going to be 65 in December but I'm confined to my home bed for ten years now cuz my flat feet are still healing...😅
Where did you message me? I did not receive it.
Gary was chosen to continue shaping the Dick Brewer line of surfboards after Richards passing last year. Very grateful for him, and the Gary Linden that Bird gifted me from the shed. There was an avalanche of surfboards on the side of shed sliding. Bird slotted both hands in to stop a 10 surfboard wipeout. I ran up and stopped four boards from sliding off the end, and Bird picks out a Gary Liden from the pile and says, this is a classic, take it.
What an honor.
Gary Linden is an inspiration to all generations of big wave surfing. Great guy too.
A very inspirational surfer with a smooth style and nice waves, make a great video. Thanks for uploading this. Regards from Oz
Yeah Gary!!! The Man, The Myth and The Legend GARY LINDEN :)
Great job Gary! Keep it up!
Stoked to see Gary out in great waves. Legend.
Yes, this is first for me seeing that young at heart surfing. Especially on his 73rd birthday - he was happy, great.
That's cool to see him enjoying surfing at the age my goal is to be still surfing at that age thanks for your inspiration gary😊😊
Although largely land locked where I am, I love to take my big old board down to Cornwall a few times a year. I’m 58 and started BJJ a year or so ago. When I’m feeling sorry for myself because my body can’t do the things it used to, I look across the mat at Barry who is 73 and regularly trains and rolls with the younger guys. Keep moving and pushing yourself. Limitations are often set in the mind.
Gary's living his "Gift of Life"!!! Keep chargin' you old Geezer, pissed me off, Dude's a Rock Star....I'm dusting of my Board right now at 62!!! Dust your Life Off. Cheers!
Inspirational!!!
I have seen some old men at Vent reef. Not all big waves are hard to surf but can be very consequential. It’s healthy to get the heart flowing.
There's nothing like experience that gives you the confidence to surf into your 80's if you stay in shape. I'm 77 and still going at it. I would love to ride some of these waves, wherever they are in Dominica. Sure is pretty water with few riders out. I'll take it.
What a legend. Maximum respect.
Fort Point Larry surfed into his 70's at the Fort and its cold, currents, rocks. Awesome elders!
I'm 68 this year and ENJOY My swimming as when i had 20, I'm good in freestyle & Butterfly , I get in the pool and forget My age, it's so good to be in the Game, I am glad to have met My BRO Gary Linden, send U a Big hug 4 your BIRTH DAY, ALOHA FROM PERÚ
I’m 71 still surf and met Gary at the board room a few years ago, such nice guy. Great Surfer !!
this is the much more inspirations for me in my Life, God bless you Man Forever, surf is Life, Life is surf.
Awesome!!
What an inspiration! 😊 Keep having fun for many years to go!!!
So very much respect and honor to GAry Linden, showing us all what's possible with a healthy lifestyle ! Keep doing it GARY !!..e..
Willing to take a beating. The most admirable trait for surfers. As a seventy-one year old surf bum, I'm impressed.
He is amazing.
Amazing!. My respect and admiration. This has made my day happy. I will not say again that I'm getting too old for surfing.
Awesome !
Truly Inspirational.!!
He is obviously in great shape. Good for him.
Thank you 👍🏽😎
Dude is a stud. More energy than I have.
WOW!! You’re good too! I’m 50 and think I’m pretty decent myself but 73 with those turns are fantastic! Good for you brother!
This guy is so nice ! When listening to him, you understand life brings some « thickness » right ?
Epic !!! ❤
How wonderful! I am proud of people who already lead an interesting active life, and do not grow stronger on a bench near the house! Bravo!
“That’s surf doggy. I know him from WAY back”. “ WOO!” 🏄🏼♂️🤘🤙👌👋🤛🤝👍
EPIC 🔥
Far out! Right on Gary! Keep on catching those big waves ✌🏽
Love this man👍. So awesome😉❤️
Excellent!!!!! Too good!!!!
Thank you Max
Really enjoyed!
Great!
Great gary pure surf great humility so much respect keep going gary ! Salute you from rome !,
Gracias por compartir
Awesome man, hope I can do that, at that age I am 62 and I had 2 knee replacements 6 months ago I had my first surfs out at seranagan sanur, waist to chest high and the odd one over head, and on the sup too , as you said never give up .
Alex .Perth WA 🌊🤙
I'm 60yrs I hope to keep on keeping on! Thanks for the inspiration Gary!
With you 100%
Congratulations, Gary!👏👏👏
Legend! ❤
I saw Michel Ho this year 2023 at Waimea in seven year long championship that was really impressive. And today I found Garry here much more impressive. Now I know I still have a few years to 70. Keep surfing!
I think it’s more about not stopping. If you don’t stop being healthy and you eat properly and you rest there’s no reason to ever stop until the body tells you you must and I believe that’ll be in your 90s.
totally rad!
Great motivation for me to keep the stoke and get back into it as a lifelong surfer getting closer to 60 now!
Inspirational ❤🙏🙏 you can do almost anything you WANT to do 👍🏻
🙌🏽
Nice style. Keep at it Popi!
I am 36 years old and I do not have as much resistance and lung capacity as him, amazing
sik session! great to hear ya TR! Gary almost said "shit" but then caught himself LOL he's gettin it!
Yes, not only a true charger but a gentleman.
Good job Gary! At one point, ya took a few on the head but persevered, Happy Birthday!
I hope I can surf that well or at all in my 70s. Right on man
Cool dude!
Gary all I can say is God bless you triple OG keep on getting in that water and ripping because you do kill it my friend
Legend!
Wow cool. The Dominican Republic has some of the nicest, friendliest an stoked surf community anywhere on the planet! Big respect.
Agree100%
I am from Ecuador, my first surfboard was a Mar Bravo shaped by Gary Linden, he is tha man. Happy to see you are still ripping.
Buena onda.
