My favorite of the series. Shipstern's has the steps, but this wave. If I hadn't see a few of the guys that made it, I'd say it was unrideable, even towing in. There are some waves, where the guys are in the slot & a second lip appears & destroys them. Some guys are too high & get sucked up & over, some are too low & get hit by the guillotine. And then there's some that do things perfectly & WHAMMO, they get blasted by spray or the wind knocks em off their board. Something like surfing these waves cannot be appreciated by anybody but other surfers, and then only other surfers who have experienced waves like this - which would be only a few people. Luckily the footage will live forever.
Best and most dramatic footage of the right I've seen but agree with some of the comments that it would be great to hear more of the sound the wave generates when it breaks. Being out in the water and hearing the sound of those waves must be incredible.. and terrifying!
I've got to ask, why does it earn your respect when you see the blatant disregard for their own lives? I'm not trying to criticize you in any way, I'm just a bit baffled. Wouldn't inflation vests be the smart call in surf like this?
@Soknik01 Considering nobody wears the vests and none of them have died, it proves the point they don't need one. There's levels to this stuff. You and I are not equipped to deal with this surf. These guys are. Their elite at what they do. I used to play cricket at a pretty high level and didn't wear a helmet. I'd have guys bowling close to 140kph at my head, but I could evade the ball because I was good enough to do so. My mates who didn't play the game called me a madman. But to me, it was fine. These dudes know what they're doing. They've been doing it their whole lives.
My top 5 (in no particular order) is gonna have to be The Right, Shipsterns, Nazare (cuz it's just that massive), Teahuopo'o (spelling is hard), and Jaws
AGREED. WTF MUSIC??? Real ambient sound is better. I had to MUTE. And I don’t get it: The truth is dramatic enough, the footage speaks for itself. Why embellish with canned background sound??
Wow that’s some incredible surfing, filming, balls. The sheer tonnage of water overhead that is so incredibly thick as it curls over. Never seen the thickness in the top like that.
It's sticking like 2 feet out of the water.. How do these guys not die when they bail, or at the very least get their faces ripped off, or become quadriplegics?
This is awesome! The sheer power of those waves takes your breath away. I am kinda jealous that I'll never be able to experience that but happy that you can. I love seeing sporting achievements that really push human limits and this stands out to me.
I have lived in the west Texas desert all my life so the thought of getting in the water with these giant waves is pure insanity! Thank god for insane people!
What is truly astonishing is the volume of water breaking over it looks 10-15 feet thick and the virtuosity(?) aka speed and power of the breaking curl is insane it looks like 100 tons hitting you if you are caught under it
Having surfed a bit on the west coast, usa; not sure how any of these guys survive one fall, let alone the day. Yet, a stunning, appalling, existential thrill to see.
There goes " reasonable" right out the widow. I heard mother's of these young men crying all the way here in the States. Mad props, you all have my respect. Not human dropping in here.
This is as close as ill ever be to this break. Watching it on my phone, laying in bed in dry land and I am ok with it 😊 A over 8ft makes me nervous, this is just insane.
I like to say, this is the ugliest/scariest big wave I've ever seen. About 2:38 or so, you get an idea of the size and force of the wave; you'll also, notice that there's like a small wave-shelf that has to be navigated at the bottom. I don't even fantasize about riding that wave.
I'll tell you with a straight face, if I was as good as these guys, I'd be out there with them The rush you'd get doing this would be a thousand lifetimes of highs 🤘
5:43, the steepness of the wave where that dude bailed his board is frightening, you guys are fooking crazy Also the wipe out at 7:53 😳 bet that felt like your body was being ripped apart
I got nightmares just WATCHING this. Very few surfers even made their waves, and the ones that did can honestly say that these were the greatest rides of their entire lives, I'm convinced of that. This is the first time I saw a jet ski not make the wave, the the surfer did!! Kudos to these brave men...
This guys deserve a statue in their home town 😂 I'm from Portugal and this is worst nigtmare than Nazaré. Nazaré if you have a very good physical preparation most probably you'll be ok. But in The Right its like Russian rolete, you'll never know how you wil be in the end. This wave Remind me of Salty Dogs that was scary too.
Watching waves all over the globe, these waves in Western Australia are just mesmerizing. They are thick..... The first time I saw them, I thought....... THICK.
At 5:45 the triple lip and thickness of it are something that nightmares are made of. The final explosion of this wave seems like it could devour a small village. Try watching this one starting at 5:36 with 0.25 playback speed

They've been doing it their whole lives.
ive decided i really dont need a 35' wave in my life
😂
I like those waves, I need them in my life
Its funny cause to the younger Rothman its just a big wave with a couple of boils, guy said so himself. Crazy
Or a 35 year old woman! 18-25 is my limit. 😏
@TJ Anderson but in hawaii a 35 ft wave is only a 17ft wave. Hehe
That break just eats and eats and eats. Nature flexing her considerable muscle mass.
🌊4:09 THAT's the perfect wallpaper picture right THERE!! 🤙🌊
Best video of The Right on youtube. And I must've seen all of them.
Just crazy!!! Balls of steel..
Absolutely nuts!!! Love it! Love seeing just some local Aussie chargers heading out into what has to be top 5 craziest wave in the world.
@ring of fire shipstern bluff is pretty bad too.
My top 5 (in no particular order) is gonna have to be The Right, Shipsterns, Nazare (cuz it's just that massive), Teahuopo'o (spelling is hard), and Jaws
So much respect to all of the brothers!
Wow. Respect to all those feeling the full force of Mother Nature. Beautifully terrifying to watch. Awesome!
I have a pit in my stomach just watching, I don't know how you guys do it.
Beautiful waves.
The editing in these videos are insane. Thanks a lot for this SURFING VISIONS!
I thought 7.51 was the heaviest wipeout I had ever seen until I got to 9.25 😱
Amazing video and great camera work 👍
Hey, lose some of the music so we can hear this monster...
The phat
AGREED. WTF MUSIC??? Real ambient sound is better. I had to MUTE. And I don’t get it: The truth is dramatic enough, the footage speaks for itself. Why embellish with canned background sound??
...um, that IS “this monster”.
@@lisar9425 I think you just try to hard to find something to hate about. Why not just say thank you and move on? Always gotta bitch
Sorry, what? Not hatin’ just sayin’ Gerry.
the lip at 5:45 . I just keep pausing it there.
5:04 too, the way it throws forward. So cool.
Wow that’s some incredible surfing, filming, balls. The sheer tonnage of water overhead that is so incredibly thick as it curls over. Never seen the thickness in the top like that.
Ryan Hipwood: "I don't really want to surf this.
Me: "I REALLY don't want to surf this!"
Look up his story on a podcast forgot the name on RUclips about being sucked down 90 feet at that place insane
5:51 Very dry reef. Omg.
No wayyyyyy!!!!
Jeeez
Almost need pop out wheels
Gee well spotted!!
Those are the thickest crests I have ever seen. And a wave within a wave is mind blowing.
What is truly astonishing is the volume of water breaking over it looks 10-15 feet thick and the virtuosity(?) aka speed and power of the breaking curl is insane it looks like 100 tons hitting you if you are caught under it
Superb job here man!. Terror Vault 1 and 2 are my hands down Favorite Insane Wipeout Vids. I just can't help but wanna share them with the world:D
3:40 bodyboarding respect!
Yeah full respect , bodyboarders were first to surf it , whitey n the dogs ,Brad,Chad, Sean, hardy, dogs on dogs, mad respect Chris Ross
Frogman got chewed up with the rest of them.
Having surfed a bit on the west coast, usa; not sure how any of these guys survive one fall, let alone the day. Yet, a stunning, appalling, existential thrill to see.
how is 6:39 survivable?
Best surfing video 1 and 2 ever!!! Thank you👍
There goes " reasonable" right out the widow. I heard mother's of these young men crying all the way here in the States. Mad props, you all have my respect.
Not human dropping in here.
W
This is as close as ill ever be to this break. Watching it on my phone, laying in bed in dry land and I am ok with it 😊 A over 8ft makes me nervous, this is just insane.
Great footage! These guys rock! That kid is killing it!
I'll never understand how someone wants to surf something that's actively trying to murder them
I like to say, this is the ugliest/scariest big wave I've ever seen. About 2:38 or so, you get an idea of the size and force of the wave; you'll also, notice that there's like a small wave-shelf that has to be navigated at the bottom. I don't even fantasize about riding that wave.
I'll tell you with a straight face, if I was as good as these guys, I'd be out there with them
The rush you'd get doing this would be a thousand lifetimes of highs 🤘
That is indeed one scary wave! Respect for these guys! Once had a 4 meter wave wipeout in Bali while bodyboarding.... couldn't walk for 2 days.
Thats incredible . It looks like a big swell than in an instant this huge hairy fanged monster just stands up , sick .
5:43, the steepness of the wave where that dude bailed his board is frightening, you guys are fooking crazy
Also the wipe out at 7:53 😳 bet that felt like your body was being ripped apart
You reallly have to ride those waves thinking that it might be the last wave you are going to ride ...
Best edit of the right Ive ever seen! Awesome when the right one comes through 🤙
Fantástico , Magnífico e Aterrorizante !
I got nightmares just WATCHING this. Very few surfers even made their waves, and the ones that did can honestly say that these were the greatest rides of their entire lives, I'm convinced of that. This is the first time I saw a jet ski not make the wave, the the surfer did!! Kudos to these brave men...
11:39 that's me board going over the falls!
Tim Nathan really?
This guys deserve a statue in their home town 😂 I'm from Portugal and this is worst nigtmare than Nazaré. Nazaré if you have a very good physical preparation most probably you'll be ok. But in The Right its like Russian rolete, you'll never know how you wil be in the end. This wave Remind me of Salty Dogs that was scary too.
I don’t surf but have always wanted to. This wave is so insane! Look how thick that thing is! That’s like the whole ocean crashing down on you!
Nah is probably only 1/100000000 parrot the ocean crashing down on u but still
8:32 This wave exploded like a bomb went off inside how insane! He was probably deaf after that!
That Rock though, it’s right there…all those funny shapes. Terrifying.
I'm glad suicidal adrenaline junkies exist for my entertainment.
Are you not a surfer? :)
TaraDivineLight Oobviously my dear
Darrylizer1 Great comment. As a semi-disabled person, I live vicariously through these junkies. I truly appreciate them.
@@taradivinelight9822 I live in Iowa of course not
They're not 'suicidal adrenaline junkies' - they're Australians.
would have been nice to see more "real speed" waves.
footage is too shaky, you'd think most camera men would know about gimbals
@@pinealism You'd think twice about commenting on something you don't know anything about. There is no gimbal for a camera inside a waterhousing...
@@CoLouRzzHD I'd suggest looking at what George Greenough used to do for his cameras and then tell me it can't be done. I know what I'm talking about
@@CoLouRzzHD Perhaps you should say "there is no water housing to suit a gimbal and camera I can buy off the shelf". I know Bonython has been making surf films for years and I respect that, but it could easily be better, it just takes a bit of imagination and fibreglassing skills.
Awesome Vid. Ausies are nuts! Telling Tyson 20 years ago"Yo mama" would bring as much punishment-No Less!
ABSO-FRIGGIN-LUTLEY AMAZING
👍🏽😎👍🏽 Makes me miss my old life so GD Bad 😔🤙🏽
