Extra tip: If you're someone like me who uses Sets A B and C on your Rally car for Tarmac, Dirt and Snow, change the set in your garage. If you enter Ice Arena with the Dirt Setup the game will automatically switch to Snow Tires and while you can switch to the snow setup, you'll have to be reminded to switch the other set's tires later which can be hard to manage and is very annoying. Building a habit to do this instead will help you in the long run.
I actually finished this event, with your Lotus Elise Snow build. It's surprisingly good, for how it can grip in the snow. As long as you keep the turbo spooling, you will keep up. The only way to overtake the rival though, is on the straight, by hitting the chicane on a fairly straight line.
12 years old me wouldn't believe I can now win GT4 rally races fair. I always despised the skate-y grip physics. But I'm still convinced that using triggers (something that the original game had not in mind) is a massive help.
The original game had full support for the analog buttons on the PS2 controller, but I'm not sure if the DualShock 2's triggers had that analog support.
I tried analog at the time, but couldn't adapt to it, so I sticked with buttons... The same analog axis for throttle and brake is not handy to tap the brake quickly like triggers.
I play every Gran Turismo using Analogs and I handle them just fine. I'm kind of forced to use them because I vastly prefer retro gaming and play on native hardware.
I did an experiment on a GT4 version a while ago, basically using Action Replay to strip out the tire requirement for events, allowing you to bring R5 (Racing Super Soft) tires to the rally event. To my surprise, my RWD race car was suddenly behaving very much like the Ai car does with grip, making me think the Ai gets to roll on R5 tires for these events.
Do you mean the '03 blob-eye Impreza? It has a bit more power and will be slightly more unwieldy despite the higher grip modifiers and more balanced weight distribution, but you can apply most of the same settings and it should drive fine. Skip the oil change if you want to control the car more easily.
I don't really know how y'all figure out all of that suspension setup things, I honestly have no idea how all of that works, so every time I play gran turismo I leave all that on default
Years of experimentation and trial-and-error to find what works, pretty much. It definitely helps to remember that GT4 is a 2004 PS2 game first and foremost, and its suspension and differential physics aren't always accurate to IRL. Once you start viewing it as a game rather than a sim, it becomes much easier to push it to its limits.

I needed almost 2 decades ago 🥲 great analysis, thank you!
Don't have much experience with GT4 so this event really caught me off guard. Absolutely brutal for beginners.

Wallriding and the Escudo. Like I did with all special events when I was a kid. 😅
I appreciate the extra support for the Spec II mod, even though it overhauls a lot of your tuning setup.
thankfully most of the tunes do work on spec II. And they're pretty fun to drive.

1:10 I never noticed the game gives you hints on what car to bring to the event.
Dude I used your Impreza spec c tuning guide and finished all dirt and snow events. Thanks!

Use the right analog

This race was extremely hard for me
I tried the delta s4, celica, rsc rally raid, escudo and the RS200 and I was able to win it with the RS200

Can echo the spec-C Impreza's efficacy. Used your tune on all the hard special conditions events offroad and it was a cakewalk.
I thought you were going to say wall ride, because that's how I beat it first try🤣
Awesome Video, BUT WASH YOUR CARS BRO I CAN TELL THEY AINT GOT NO REFLECTIONS
gran turismo 4 is a cute game
Hey Kanji, quick question. Will this setup work with the other Impreza?(I mean still this gen racing car, just not the front lights shaped O one)

@TeaKanji Yes, didn't remember word blob lol. Thank you so much, really appreciated by someone who absolutely sucks at rallying
lol i beat it in the Ram 1500. i needed all the power i can put to overtake the ai on the tiny straight. only took me 25 tries

What'd be the next best road car option after the Spec C in 1.06 Spec II if money is no obstacle?
The R34 M-spec Nur's still really good, that would probably be my pick.
