@@ProjectDanH There will come a time when the dreaded death rattle or death wobble will come for your beloved. You must power through it. It will be a test of your love for your beloved XJ. Many abandon their solid front axle vehicles when the death wobble comes for their vehicle. I regrettably did this with Murphy, my once loved 1987 Jeep Wrangler YJ. The death wobble came for her and I tried to fix it with changing the drag link and the tie rod. I became frustrated and parted with her in 1994. The person I sold her to said he would fix her and love her. That was a lie. He took the lift off, the wheels, and engine and built up his Wrangler. To this day, I can not look at a picture of my dear Murphy and not feel sadness. The fact that I got a nearly new cadillac to be my vehicle after abandoning my Murphy makes it worse. I went from a vehicle that was a part of me, alive with the love I put into her, full of fun, personality, and joy to a sterile appliance that sucked the soul from me every time I went somewhere. In 1996, I sold the cadillac and got my current Jeep, a 1997 Wrangler TJ. At first she was just a baby and needed to grow to develop into a wonderful friend. She was paid in full 2001. Then I began growing her into the beauty I have today, nourishing her, loving her, becoming best friends. The dreaded death wobble / death rattle came for my dear Windi two years ago. Gradually getting worse until last year I replaced the four ball joints, the tie rod, the track bar, and drag link. We can go out together again but there is still a trace of the death wobble. We will power through this together. Never turn your back on your beloved, even if someone promised to love her when you part ways. Do not live that regret the rest of your life. I owe it to my deceased Murphy never to part with Windi and to love her through all the hard times as well as the best times. I love Windi so much that it sometimes hurts to know that she could never love me back. But betraying Murphy hurts even more. Others can never understand the deep bond between a a true Jeep lover and their Jeep.
@@indridcold8433 Indrid Cold that's the realest jeep testimony I've ever heard. Thanks for sharing your story. Take heart knowing the spirit of Murphy lives on through Windi. Please don't regret your past, you must realize that it is the JEEP that shapes US, not the other way around. Murphy was preparing you for Windi. It reminds me of a quote from John the Baptist as Jesus began his ministry... He said that I must become less and less so that He can become more and more. I believe that all the years of experience with XJs led me to owning this Cherokee and I wouldn't be able to fully appreciate it without the Cherokees before it. Thanks again for sharing and remember love conquers death wobble!

I picked up a 2000 Cherokee sport a few years ago. Also black 125,000. I had owned one new back when and I always missed her. Your jeep looks sweet for sure.
In this vehicle, I'd much rather have the auto. The stock engine is so powerful and the trans is perfectly matched. The manual would be good for serious off-roading, however. I've owned 4 XJ's and never wished I had a stick. The only XJ I hated was the '86 Laredo with the V6.
I agree! It really is super clean. I have a 1999 XJ and look forward to doing similar mods. Most XJs around my area are either bone stock falling apart or jacked up 10 inches with fenders cut and massive wheels and all kinds of crazy stuff.
Project Dan H I think everyone has the same questions. You should update the vid description with a summary of mods. Like tire size and brand, wheel size and what they came from, etc
Nice! I recently got an 87' XJ with a lot of offroad mods already on it. I am definitely interested in upgrading it to be the ultimate offroad machine. the 415 coating looks super clean and will definitely add the to longevity!

I cut out the metal in the hatch and replaced it with thin plywood.. I cut speaker holes in the plywood and then ran wires from an amp with the other wires through the boot in the hinge. took a little work and some time but it's worth it
@@Lego_SML after I made my wood frame.. I made a template in a piece of cardboard around the speaker to get my hole sized up (some speakers come with a template} then I lined the template up with the plastic exactly where I wanted the speakes to go and cut very carefully through the plastic . Then I put the plastic panel back on the Jeep and traced the hole from the plastic onto the hatch wood.. removed plastic .. cut wood carefully.. boom.. had a perfect hole to insert my 6x9 👍
You did an outstanding job, Dan!! Two weeks ago, I purchased a 2000 XJ Limited (Sienna Pearl with the Agate interior) in good shape. I intend to return it to like-new condition then take it to the local car and Jeep shows here in Southern California. Nice XJ, but sorry to tell you the 2000-2001 XJ's have the faulty 0331 cylinder head that was known for overheating and catastrophic failure. That said, best years were definitely 1998-1999. Those years still had the newer styling with best suspension, gearing, and the reliability XJ's were known for. My personal favorite is the 1999 XJ 2DR 5SPD.

I bought a 1999 Cherokee Limited 2WD new and loved it. I'm not an off roader or mechanic, so I left it stock. On a trip to New Orleans in 2000, it got hit twice in the rear end - once in hotel parking lot and again in Houston during a rainstorm. I took it to the dealer where I bought it, but it was never the same. I think the frame was bent but wasn't fixed. In any case, it was a great vehicle, and I had two more Jeeps after that one. The 2003 Grand Cherokee was a very good little beast, but the 2007 GC was a lemon. I liked Jeeps, until that experience. I might look at them in the future (if I live long enough), but I doubt than any of their new engines will be as reliable as the old 4.0 liter. Fond memories of the first two.
@@ProjectDanH Dan, I'm 75 and tired. I won't have the energy or money on a retired teacher's salary to do one, but I do appreciate the quality of the XJ and the dedication of the people who work on/restore them. Thanks for the kind note.

Seeing how you restored the original paint gives me hope that I can do something similar as the original paint is in good shape, except for a rusted area on the drivers door. Thanks!!!

Beautiful 100%! Angry eyes are not my thing, but it’s not my vehicle. Genial, hermano!
Right on!
That thing is perfect. As a Wrangler guy I have always wanted an XJ as a project. That’s exactly how I would build mine. Perfect 👌
Thank you so much! I'm an XJ guy but always wanted a TJ. Thanks for watching!

They won't rust . That's for sure .
Very nice XJ. I have a 2000 myself. If you start blowing head gaskets, the heads on the 2000s were defective. If I remember right the casting code was 0330. They have micro fractures in the steel which become a problem at about 80,000+ miles. My solution was to replace the head with a 96’ head, and aftermarket stainless header.
you are exactly right! did they drill holes for your coil pack rail in the 96 head??? usually the TUPY head is the replacement for the defective 0331.
Wish mine looked like this other than the lift wheels and tires, would look great with my set up!
No reason why it cant... Go for it brother!

Hell yea! Let's go for 500k!
Man i love the xj, been driving mine for 19 years
So cool! Are you the original owner?
She really is perfect. Love her and keep her safe from harm the rest of your life. I have had my Jeep since 1996 and love her more each day.
I will! You have my word!
This is a beautiful Jeep Cherokee. Great work, you should be proud.😀👍
Thank you Jay
Great job. She’s beautiful I’ll never understand people who think their idea of how a Jeep should look is how yours should look
That speaker box/utility box etc is my favorite part. And the job you did with the ripped seats is top notch
thank you brother! the key is "perfect" for me.. 😁 I daily this rig so they all don't need a 6 inch lift on 35s. thank you for your reason and comprehension of my build.💪
The best XJ I’ve ever seen! 😍
Thank you!!
I picked up a 2000 Cherokee sport a few years ago. Also black 125,000. I had owned one new back when and I always missed her. Your jeep looks sweet for sure.
awesome Gregory. thank you and thanks for watching
your XJ seems to be missing a clutch pedal.
Ahhhh. . Ya got me there.
That is funny! I also much prefer a manual over automatic but sadly mine is an auto.
In this vehicle, I'd much rather have the auto. The stock engine is so powerful and the trans is perfectly matched. The manual would be good for serious off-roading, however. I've owned 4 XJ's and never wished I had a stick. The only XJ I hated was the '86 Laredo with the V6.
in the Uk you couldnt buy a 4.0 on a manual...damn i'd love one..but teh auto is one of the smoothest
@@deadkemper The only manual transmissions I've seen are two door pre '98 XJs. Pretty rare; don't see many anywhere.
I never thought bigger wheels suited the XJ.. until I saw this one. Top work mate!
Thanks Hairy! I think the wheels fit well. I wouldn't go bigger than 18s. they're just Right 👍
Really nice jeep and great work.. I love it.. It's inspiring to me!
Thank you! I hope you'll try some of my mods!
I agree! It really is super clean. I have a 1999 XJ and look forward to doing similar mods. Most XJs around my area are either bone stock falling apart or jacked up 10 inches with fenders cut and massive wheels and all kinds of crazy stuff.
I know same here man. An XJ doesn't need to have 1 feet of lift to be "cool" lol.. mine is clean, strong, and reliable 👍
Project Dan H I think everyone has the same questions. You should update the vid description with a summary of mods. Like tire size and brand, wheel size and what they came from, etc

I am definitely interested in upgrading it to be the ultimate offroad machine.
the 415 coating looks super clean and will definitely add the to longevity!
Absolutely! Enjoy your build!
How did you make that speaker/storage box in black beauty. I need something like this. Do you have measurements and or a video on it.
I accidentally threw out my Sketch and I built it before in was on social media. Sorry. It was built around the size of my spare and also the manufacturer recommend air volume size for the subwoofer frequency I was tuning it to. It's very simple but very well planned out. I'll make video soon
I miss my Jeep, it was a 2001 Jeep Cherokee sport, lost it in an accident this past Friday, I’m ok but nothing will beat that Jeep!
except for maybe another jeep 😎
How did you manage to add the speakers on the back hatch? I would love to give it a try myself
I cut out the metal in the hatch and replaced it with thin plywood.. I cut speaker holes in the plywood and then ran wires from an amp with the other wires through the boot in the hinge. took a little work and some time but it's worth it
I appreciate the help! Do you got tips on how you cut out the plastic and got the speakers placed even?
@@Lego_SML after I made my wood frame.. I made a template in a piece of cardboard around the speaker to get my hole sized up (some speakers come with a template} then I lined the template up with the plastic exactly where I wanted the speakes to go and cut very carefully through the plastic . Then I put the plastic panel back on the Jeep and traced the hole from the plastic onto the hatch wood.. removed plastic .. cut wood carefully.. boom.. had a perfect hole to insert my 6x9 👍
@@ProjectDanH that made everything make sense thank you so much!
You should make a video on that. It'd be awesome!
You did an outstanding job, Dan!! Two weeks ago, I purchased a 2000 XJ Limited (Sienna Pearl with the Agate interior) in good shape. I intend to return it to like-new condition then take it to the local car and Jeep shows here in Southern California. My thought is that as the years go by, a nearly stock Cherokee is going to become more of a rarity and a looker. Plus, I'll have a lot of fun doing pretty much what you have done.

Exactly! I can't stand when they're chopped up, abused, and left for dead. Sound like black Beauty and white lightning should ride together! Lol!
They should lol. I live in Arkansas and jeeps are everywhere here so I'm planning on buying the ones that can still be saved and just getting them back to stock conditions.

7120 is the best stock head AFAIK. The eldebrock is better, but that's serious money.
@@comancheclub3449 7120 does not directly bolt on to the 2000 and 2001. The 0331 has different exhaust ports and mounts for the coil packs. In 2002-2004 TJs and WJs got a better version of the 0331 made by a foundry in Brazil. This improved 0331 was stamped TUPY right under the oil cap. I will never forget my first “car”. A 1999 Jeep Cherokee sport 2wd. This video bright back good memories thank you😂
Great jeep! My pleasure bro!
