Looks great on your wrist. I have the same size wrist. I’ve tried on some 36mm watches that just look too small for me. But the President bracelet up on the sides near the lugs in all gold pulls it all in. So you pull it off well.
The 36mm looks perfect, my man! If Tony Soprano can wear it, I think we are all good. I have the new Explorer 36mm and i will likely be selling some pieces as it just seems to do it all. Great Vid - Happy Thanksgiving !
I really hope the trend goes smaller. Too many watches are 42 and 41mm. 40 mm is perfect for me, a 36 mm is a time tested classic men’s size too. You’re so lucky your dad had such impeccable taste and class. My dads watch was a gold plated ultra thin rectangular Seiko 😕
Stunning watch mate!! I’m in the non polish group too!!! I think watches can be any size depending on person and occasion!! My collection has 35mm to 44mm and love them all!!!
Not on my near 8" wrist, 40mm minimum. I have a Seamaster 42mm and a Black Bay 41mm that sit just right in my opinion. Cheers Chris Regards from England 👍🏴
Very nice classic gold day-date, regretted selling mine few years back and intends to buy another one, i guess when you are pass 50, gold seemed to work for you......lol
Good video Chris. I like my 36. Being a short person. Five feet five and 145 lbs. The 36 works for me. It seems more discreet. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger wears the 36 mm. I just had my DD serviced. In the instructions I did ask to have the case and bracelet buffed. however, I asked to please do not polish the bezel. I swim with my DD five days a week in the local indoor pool. Of course, when I do work in my wood shop the watch comes off and when I do go to the flea market the DD stays under the sleeve of my flannel shirt. Whatever you do Chris, don't ever sell that watch. Keep it serviced, just keep it and wear it.
Enjoy your dad’s watch. My wrist is 5 3/4 inches and I wish smaller watches would make a comeback. I recently got a call from my AD and purchased my dream watch and it’s 41mm. It’s the Bluesy Sub. People love it on me, but I wish they would have made it in 36mm. Happy Thanksgiving!
40 works for professional models like sub or gmt. 40 DD looks like a saucer in my opinion. It's too much like a frisbee. 36 is where DD belongs. Oozes class that a 40 can't compete with. Hype be damned!
Not sure if 36mm is a thing for men or even women for that matter, as a lot of women have been wearing “‘men’s watches” like 40mm Daytona’s. Personally I can’t wear anything under 39mm, I’ve tried, the new 36mm explorer looks insanely small on my wrist. But I love Day-Date’s! My 40mm rose gold olive dial Day-Date is my personal favorite and I think every Rolex collector should have at least one.
I thought that too about 36mm. Now I have this and think it looks great, even on my big wrist! Helps it gold, not sure steel would work for me in 36mm. 🍻
I am currently in the market for one of these watches. I would be over the moon once I find that perfect specimen, but I can’t imagine the sentimental value of being inherited from your father. My small two cents is never polish that watch and carry on the markings in honor of your father.
Beautiful piece, leave it as is, until it starts running off. +2 is awesome. The smallest I could go is 40. My Dad had a 36DJ 1988, bracelet in great shape. It wouldn't close on an 8.75" wrist. Traded it in for a bluesy. I do love the extra weight, could only imagine the nice weight of full gold. Scratches with gold is a process. I have embraced it, and will opt for no polish when the bluesy goes in many years from now. Actually, even the all steel will not get polished. I have really liked Rolex's thinner cases, especially in colder months. I do have two 14mm lunar pilots, but pilot watches should be big. I couldn't do the hockey puck tudors or grand seikos, at any price. And I have the wrist to support it. You are reminded of that thickness everytime you donn or doff a long sleeved shirt or jacket. Pisses me off. Hahaha
Chris Have you been talking with any AD's about Rolex's starting to trickle into their stores. My AD received a two tone sea dweller several months ago and that is pretty much it. The sea dweller I passed on. Didn't need gold in the watch. I'm waiting for the sub, the GMT with the red / bezel of course the black an blue bezel. I was having coffee with the manager of the AD I deal with. There isn't a Rolex in his store. The display cases are completely empty. The store has plenty of Tudors even the GMT. But no Rolex. Sure would like to hear if any of your followers fell into the sugar bowl with the GMT.
As much as I love your d/d I don't like 39mm and under. I think the new 36mm explorer looks like a kids watch. Especially now women are wearing 40mm watches these days. But it's all about personal choice. Guess you're falling out of love with your old favourite sd43 😪
Hey p.a. SD43 is one of the most handsome watches Rolex makes! But lately, I’ve really enjoyed smaller watches. It’s all about the journey my friend. 🍻👍
Congrats the 36mill looks great I would definitely not Polish it when you send it in for service keep the marks from your dad and pass it down one day to your son.
@@a004 don’t regret it / that configuration is the absolute dog of the dd world. Been offered one every 3 months by my ad. Even they laughed when I said you seriously think I’m buying that!?
Your dad had great taste! You are a lucky man
Your dad was obviously a man of style. What a lovely gift.
This is my everyday driver. Wear it well!
I heritage the exame same from my father. 49 years ago he bought it. Never serviced. Still working perfectly.
I got my dad's after he passed away. His is a double quick set White Roman dial. Easy to read

On Rolex website, the 128238 is mega expensive, well over 30K. Have you ever compared the two?

Agreed, The president is such a comfy bracelet. much more than the JUBE
Beautiful watch - I have the DD40 with champagne dial and Roman numerals. Love how you care for your father’s watch. Wear it in health.
Congrats on the watch. I am waiting for my DD but who knows when it come.
Hope you get the call soon! Crazy, there is a wait for Day Dates now. It’s nuts 😞
Definitely under 40. I recently got a Rolex oyster perpetual 36 and I love it.

Thank you! The Bluesy is an awesome watch! Congrats 🎊🍾🎈🎉! I may be adding one soon…..😝😬
I have the 36 mm explorer….I love it ,my omega seamaster looks big now 😅
your watch has been polished. the original polishing of the bracelet should be polished in the center link and brushed on the two side
Damn his dad was Tony Soprano 😳
The reason you’re liking 36mm dress and 39mm sport/casual sizes is because they actually fit you properly.

My dad gifted me the very same model. I was so proud he wrote it into his will. I've tracked the serial number down to 1981. Yours?
I thought that they only made the 18238 from 1988?
@@clarea-s6779 yes you are correct. Mine appears to be a 18038. Made between 1977 to 1988. 👍🏻

Nice watch but it’s been polished….outside links should be should be brushed; inner high polished. Your whole bracelet is high polished.
So, hes not reselling, it for his pleasure. LOL
what year was this watch made?
Congrats brother! Where have you been?? Feel like I haven’t seen you in awhile. 🤔

I have spoke with ADs and it’s not good. Hardly receiving any Rolex watches. Just sad 😔
The DD looks like it’s brand new…..
Chris, nice day/date.. I think stainless steel watches look better on ya and that Explorer 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
being solid gold it might as well be a 50mm
90s rolex jubilee and pres bracelets are almost as comfortable as Seikos SKX00X jubilee bracelet :))
How much did you pay ? I’m searching for the same DD36 but not sure to go with full set or just the watch
Fullset always

Beautiful watch. It’s your dads, the rest watches don’t matter
Don’t polish your fathers watch I made that mistake
Yeah, I was leaning that way already. I enjoy the memories from them. Thanks for your thoughts George! 🍻
DayDate is definitely a heavy hitter, but I'd take the 40mm over a 36mm.
Absolutely, so would I. Problem is you can’t even buy those at the Rolex AD anymore without waiting a while. 🍻
