the vintage 36mm day/date is, to me, the quintessential Rolex. Even more than the Sub. When I knew nothing of watches, I knew the Day/Date screamed "class".

I literally just saw a gentleman with a solid gold rolex president at lunch today, wearing casual clothes and all. He totally pulled it off.
My dad wore his everyday president with bark finish for 40+ years, jean and polo kind of guy, and now i have it and im the same way. Great watch.

I agree w/your rule of thumb regarding jubilee-fluted bezel, oyster-smooth...
it seems like the oyster bracelet would accentuate the fluted bezel much more nicely. The jubilee bracelet and the fluted bezel just seen too much over the top.
I own a day- date President. Made in 1967. I wear it everyday, and love it! Wouldn’t trade it for anything. Enjoy yours! Matt👌😜👍
I own a yellow-gold day-date with the bark finish on the center links of the bracelet and bezel. When the light hits the center links at just the right angle it seems to light up like fire. Pictures don't do it justice. As a retiree, the days of the week all seem to blend together. Every day is a weekend. For that reason, I have a use for knowing which day of the week it is. I wear mine daily. I agree that the bracelet is a work of beauty.

I have an 18038 that I love a lot. But I did have an 18039 (white gold) which you desire. I wasn’t really happy with it. Outdoors you could easily notice the top layer being worn off in places, and underneath a more yellowy metal made its presence known. Made it look cheap.

The best stealthy wealthy DD is the Smooth Bezel 36mm Platinum Day Date with lumed stick hands and markers. It just looks like any steel sports watch. That’s what I would go with after a classic yellow gold DD.

Can’t really be called the president if it doesn’t have the President bracelet with the hidden clasp. Those are worth way more from a collector’s perspective 👏
Once I didn't like them. When I bought mine; 36mm champagne face double quick set; I liked the look. After a week or more I realised it was better than I expected. The fit and feel, the movement all class. Very pleased with it, very.

The Rolex Day-Date 18238 is my current Rolex grail and currently saving up to commemorate my 41st birthday. Got a good 4-5 years to save and hopefully they don't rise up in price too much by then.

My cousin is a year younger than me, he’s 25 & he just bought a Rolex DD40 @ the Rolex boutique Rolex Santa Monica in Cali like 2wks ago . 2 years ago in Nevada he got a brand new submariner date SS, black face/bezel (your common traditional sub) & in June when we were in Colorado visiting his ranch we went to Vail, CO. To shop around and he came out of Princess world Jewelers w/ a brand new two tone SS/yellow gold submariner date blue face/bezel... like damn bro LOL!
