My car blew up today. I felt like crying. I saw my wrist and after watching this is video. I said myself. I’m here and I’m here to stay. Always forward never back.
As they said on the GDR "vorwärts immer, rückwärts nimmer" which roughly translates to "always forward, never backwards". This should be our motto all the time. Stay strong my friend 🫶
The one area Rolex totally missed on and you guys captured so well: The pursuit of excellence in the family. Not in the boardroom, not on the tennis court, but among those we love. Congratulations. Very well done.
Fantastic video Christian. What a testament to hard work both professionally and familially. It really highlights how attached watches can be with achievements and memories. What really hit me the most was when your mother said that the new Rolex was apparently hers but that the promise had to be that she would give it to your daughter. What a way to bond three generations with one inanimate object! Amazing. Only problem with this video is that it has me searching for a solid gold Rolex.... Which I cannot afford at the moment.
One of the best and most healthful and touching videos from T&H. On what memories, stories, milestones, etc is all about. Love the storytelling and how watches associate to this, what branding is all about.
my great uncle immigrated to the netherlands and later belgium during the war in indonesia which he just barely escaped. He came from nothing, found his talent in making beautiful dresses for weddings, bar mitzwah, etc... He rewarded himself with a Rolex 18238 and a Patek 3700 to remind himself of his success and to, well, fit in. He had and still has beautiful taste in everything, watches, clothing, furniture, food,... He's worn the daydate every single day and night, and it shows. He's old, isolated and can barely walk anymore, but me and my parents regularly drive up to belgium to visit him and hang out. Years ago he gifted me both of his watches on my 18th birthday, to show his gratitude for our help and just... accompany him, since most family never bothered to keep up contact. Coincidentally, I was just getting into watches at that time, and I suspect he knew that. We decided to sell the Patek for his own retirement fund, he had absolutely NO idea what it was worth!! I regularly wear my daydate and I just absolutely love the story behind it, how it reminds myself of him, my family, and where we came from. All of my indonesian side of the family wears gold :) idgaf if some people think it looks tacky. Love the video.
Superb! Beautifully shot. What an elegant, comprehensive way to hear about watches and family, family, and watches, and what it all means. Really great stuff.
Best Watch Review video I have ever watched. The Stories. The Journey. The Memories. The Lessons. The Chronology are Purely Timeless. Thanks. You easily got my subscription and hope these video is seen The world across.
"I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, there were some real tough times. But throughout all that we never gave up on one another. If there's one ingredient to why we're sitting here today, it's the Gold Rolex" - the man himself
Watching this again ,made me feel just how much I relate to your parents life story (they are few years older than me and my wife ) and the values they have and managed to pass to their children so so well - Mazal tov ! As for the idea of the gold Rolex and what it stands for … I just bought my first gold Rolex ( 1981 oyster perpetual ) with its original oyster bracelet and it’s absolutely wonderful, but the inspiration I got from your family’s story made the adjustment so much easier. Thank you . Best wishes from Cape Town 🙏
LOVED this video. Really great job. No one does it better. I grew up and was in my teens in late 80s and early 90s. This video really resonated on a nostalgic level, and the influence from that era on aspiration and tastes today.
Wonderful video! Thank you so much for sharing. I grew up in the 80’s and yes I too lived in a small studio apt. With mother, father, and younger brother. Looking back I enjoy to appreciate family time. All of my watches will be going to my daughter so that she may wear it and or give them to my future grandkids. Though I couldn’t say it even better “family is my Rolex “!
Nice family story. But, I personally really don't like the aspect of Rolex that is purely a way to differentiate wealth. Your watch shouldn't make others feel bad, by you wearing it. And possessions, you own, shouldn't control your life.
content like this is an absolute minefield for being cringey or out of touch and you guys navigate it so, so well. instead it comes out thoughtful and authentic. kudos, insanely well done.
Honestly, mom’s advice about raising kids is some of the best I’ve ever heard. Certainly the first time I’ve ever put this way. “Raise your kids to be people you will want to hang out with.” Her saying that she lost her best friend the day her mom died and that she’d be okay because she raised two new best friends made me tear up 🥲
Brilliant episode, lovely family reminding me of my own and since your parents are just 2 years older than me ,I feel I can relate to their story so much more… I’ve been following your stories for a while and as a watch lover I truly appreciate the sophistication and natural class of your presentations and personal taste . Both my daughters got into watches eventually and it makes me happy that we can communicate and commemorate some special moments through our mutual passion . Also, it’s rather evident that your parents sacrifices were not in vain and if there’s one thing that can’t be said about you in “ new money “ but rather comfortable elegance, which is the logical conclusion of that union and you and your sister (from what I’ve seen of her ) perfectly fulfill your parents expectations Have a great and productive year ahead and remember to keep the balance ! Best wishes from Cape Town 😊
Well done. What a nice close-knit family. I miss my mom and dad everyday. Nice that Rolex was introduced into the video, but that was about love and friendship. Your sister favors your father, you favor your mother. Keep up the good work with your videos.
The most compelling and emotionally intelligent storytelling in the watch world right now, in my opinion. Came across the video of your grandfather, and have been floored by each of the following stories. Bravo!
Cool to know you used to work in the pharmaceutical back in the days. That attitude itself on taking a lower pay and foresee the future potential. Respect and salute! I guess you worked for Zeneca (ICI)
beautiful. can someone help me with the reference ? Christian's dad's datejust, what reference is it ? and was (is) it possible to fit a president ? did not get it. however the watch looks like a 1601/1603 my favourite...but in gold
Wow, What a wonderful video. I have always been a big fan of this channel and the way you renew my love for watches. This time you guys really outdid yourselves. Cheers 🥂
That was a great video! Thank you for putting content out that is emotional and real. It’s a rarity in today’s society to see family cherished. Congrats to you and your family. I pray continued success and happiness.
A beautiful video.... Love it. When RUclips is full of people asking about how much their Rolex is worth as an investment. This highlights the true value!!! Owning something you invest your love and feeling into.... You have a wonderful family
Beautiful family story told with an elegant loving touch. Reminds me of the famous first sentence of Leo Tolstoy's novel Anna Karenina “Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” Listen to you mother Christian, she has the wisdom of a women that understands the secrets of making a successful family!
My mother bought me a $300 seiko watch when I finished high school. When I finished my undergrad, she bought my class ring. 2 months before I finished my MBA, she died. I was a wreck, but I finished the hardest college semester of my life with a 4.0. The first thing I bought when we settled her estate was a Rolex. To this day, when people ask me about it, I simply tell them my mom bought it for me. I know she’s proud.
Ima truck driver and I bought a 18k gold day date 41mm and it didn't make me think I was upper crust. It was just a watch that would be worth what I paid for it when I sell it🤷🏾♂️
Hi Christian! Please make a video about Rolex motif dials. Since Rolex discontinued all motif dials except Celebration OP. Also what happened with Day-date puzzle motif dial, is it still available?
Besides the whole authenticity of this happy couple sharing their story...there were 2 key words in the beginning from the husband...Capitalism and small government...Amen
This is a beautiful video Christian, your family story is wonderful! Your parents seem like some very inspiring, salt of the earth people! They sound like heaps fun parents to have!
My car blew up today. I felt like crying. I saw my wrist and after watching this is video. I said myself. I’m here and I’m here to stay. Always forward never back.

Stay strong my friend 🫶
Directly it wpuld be something like: "forwards ever, backwards never."
Great attitude! Sorry about your car. You’ll find a solution and be in a stronger position! Stay motivated
Right.... blown up car....
Stay strong and hold on in the storm. Calm waters are near. Blessings
The one area Rolex totally missed on and you guys captured so well: The pursuit of excellence in the family. Not in the boardroom, not on the tennis court, but among those we love. Congratulations. Very well done.
This is storytelling at the highest level. So great to showcase your parents and their stories.

What a tribute to your parents. Very moving, had me in tears at the end. I immediately want to share this with my wife. Thank you Christian for this
Reaganite new money gush pretentiously about their gaudy objects ... so deep
@@Darius-nk9fxObviously someone hasn’t gone to school to look further than images on the screen. Unfortunate!
I agree. I did the exact same thing. Such a wonderful combination of family values, an ode to the gold Rolex watch, and happiness.

Just purchased my first 2 tone gold / steel datejust with diamond markers at 42. Wish my dad was alive to see it. Great video.

I've seen your videos here and there. This one won my subscription. Paradigm shift for definition of success... Family goals!

I just found this RUclips channel today and watched a few videos…this video is my favorite!!!! Great life advice and a great watch.

All these 1980’s America vibes. Makes me nostalgic.
I don’t know how this channel appeared on my stream, but you nailed this video. Kudos.
What is the ref of the watch at 4:55? Black dial with no numbers or bars for the hours?
What a cinematic way to tell a story with a perfect background music as well! Love it
Nice man. I'm in pharma industry too and I'm 37 and I got a couple of rolexes and working myself upto a day date when I turn 40
what a wonderful video…just wonderful as simple as that. its not only about status and watches, its about your familiy and your gold ones

One of the most incredible videos I have ever see. "That is my gold Rolex" at the end made me chiver
For those of us fairly new into horology, this makes me understand the emotional value behind these archaic, jewelry timepieces. Bravo!
The most compelling and emotionally intelligent storytelling in the watch world right now, in my opinion. Came across the video of your grandfather, and have been floored by each of the following stories. Bravo!
That was just lovely. Great storytelling. And the onyx dial generational watch ❤
Christian ..what a beautiful tribute to your parents ..lovely to see ..thank you !
Phenomenal story. Thanks for sharing.
Can anyone help me understand the reference for the white gold Rolex with the mint dial? Did they make any without diamonds?
Cool to know you used to work in the pharmaceutical back in the days. That attitude itself on taking a lower pay and foresee the future potential. Respect and salute! I guess you worked for Zeneca (ICI)

I actually appreciate a lot of the things that were said in this video in regards to my own life. There's some solid life advice in there.
Hi Christian! Please make a video about Rolex motif dials. Since Rolex discontinued all motif dials except Celebration OP. Also what happened with Day-date puzzle motif dial, is it still available?
