Thanks! It is fun to build and the best part is how it costs nothing. I have plenty of metalworking tools but no forge, so this worked out perfectly when I was making a knife👌
Functional simplicity! Very cool (hot?) forge! Unfortunately I live on the 2nd floor, no ground space available either for a forge or especially for a hammer/anvil 😭 I do use two electric furnaces for heat treatment and casting, but an anvil+hammer is out of the question when working on the rooftop 🤣 I did consider a fly press, but it doesn't look like you can finish things with just a fly press and no hammer work at all. So for now I just cut and grind stock into whatever shapes, no Damascus for me 😂
I feel you! When I first started out in metal working, I was doing it on the outside porch of my small apartment. 😆 I'm sure my neighbors didn't quite like the sound of grinding and hammering, so I would pick times of the day when they were gone. It's definitely better to do metalsmithing at a friend's house or parents if they have the land for it 👍
Your parents must be proud of how innovative you are....this is cool!
Thank you for the kind words!
Thanks, I don't think I'll use cardboard but this is an awesome forge that basically uses nothing

Dang, very dedicated and crazy how hot that can get sir alloy 😁
It got really hot! It is crazy how such primitive technology like this can melt rebar
