Thanks for sharing, great info. Will be checking mine shortly
Sweet mate. Cheers. 👍🍺
I found my fault. I had the same hot relay and stalling on acceleration and finally found the cause - the hot relay is the symptom. The E70 has a design fault where the bakerlite panel with the rubber strip that contacts the bonnet (hood) breaks, so the seal no longer contacts the bonnet. When water gets on the windscreen it drips inside the engine bay onto the engine cover, and onto injector 5. This water then destroys the electrics inside said injector which now uses huge current just to pulse at idle. Acceleration increases the pulse which the circuit is overloaded already (hot relay) and self protects by shutting the fuel pump off. Very dangerous in traffic but a very common fault on the diesels.
To test use an ammeter on that injectors terminals and if it is below 200 ohms you have the fault. Mine was 40 ohms. If your rubber/bakerlite strip is broken fix it immediately. Cheers.
Appreciate you sharing that, many thanks
I've done a scan and found "4450 cylinder 5 injector activation". I've been advised similarly to what you posted - that when one injector fails, it makes the engine shutdown
Awesome info mate. So glad you have her sorted. Hope that this post helps others a well. Happy motoring! 🍹
@lindsayrobinson2144 Cheers mate. Yeah. These X70s can be tricky to fault find! Glad you have her sorted!
I really appreciate the video…but unfortunately…or fortunately..I think you just got lucky with that relay. I have the exact same vehicle…and that relay has nothing to do with the fuelling system.
Cheers mate. It was certainly my issue. I've also done a diagnostic and found it to the the issue. 👍
Me too.😩 Mine is a 30g and I was told it should NEVER come out. (Main circuit cut off)
That's not fuel pump relay. That's distribution relay. If those relay bad, you can not even start your car nor open your trunk.
Hendro Santoso this sounds like my issue cranks over but won’t kick, funny happens after a battery replacement
Let me know if my fix worked for you. I believe it will. ✔✔👍
@@stuboy82 check my video about how to fix it. There is a water on your engine bay on left side. Open up , dry it up all the water and replace the power distribution module ( less than $ 100 ) . Just be careful when you put it back because if the rubber gutter bend, it will clog and water will overflow and make the engine bay flooding again. In my case, I removed the power distribution from their holder , I cover up with plastic to seal the module
Hendro Santoso thanks mate, got it sorted was a mission though, alternator went that obviously killed the battery in the process given the batteries age, so put a new alternator in charged old battery but it wouldn’t hold enough charge to crank turns out the ews kicked immobiliser in where cas and dme don’t align as its rolling code so after learning this and taking a day to get software working and being able to use it I was able to reset rolling code and wallah, in process broke nipple off upper radiator hose, replaced whole hose, put vent hose I’ve nipple ans snapped the y joiner behind throttle body lol.... 3-4 weekends later we back in business, I do have a spare relay sitting in the boot for if this happens
same problem was here, coudnt start my car, no crank and trunk wont open.
10001 views now LOL :-) Congratulations. So lets go for a ride. :-)
Haha. Cheers mate. Crazy stuff!!!! ✔👍😊👊😆🍷🍺🏃🏋🙌🍻
@@GTARC_au You deserve the best. :-)
Haha. Cheers buddy! 🍻🙌🏃👍
@@GTARC_au Hi, my 2009 x5 sometimes but very rare does that it cranks and won't start, is there a way to test the fuel pump relay? Do those 3 connections look kind of burn or something like that? Please help...
Thank you in advance !
You can test the relay yourself by running 12v through it. Or getting an auto electrician to do it. If it sounds dull and flat then the relay needs to be replaced. It should sound a crisp clicking sound... hope this helps. 🍷✔🙋👊
Thanks 💪
No problem 👍
Nice car i have a merc c class
Was the relay hot when it was faulty? My friend is having problems with his X5, and that exact relay gets really hot
ultimatefriikki
Yes mate. Very warm. Over time the contacts in the relay become warm distorted and stick. This is where the fault lies. I used a narva spot light fuse. Less than 10$ and the car hasn't faulted since!!! ✔✔👍
Thanks for the quick reply mate! Gotta go get dem relays and get this box of a car back on the road 👍
ultimatefriikki
Cool. Let me know how it goes. 🍻

In the US where can I buy this relay? Not popping up on ebay, also didn't see a part number so I'm not sure what I'm looking for, kinda need this asap.
Ok. Leave it with me I'll have a hunt for ya. 👍🍻
O'reilly's
It was actually the fuel relay the green 1, but I did replace the starter relay, hope it helps someone else, I got rid of that truck a while ago.
Is this a Diesel?
Yep. 👍
@SkyPilot oh ok, the setup looked different because my fuel relay is green

I got lot of mile on mine
Omg that left drive !!!
Haha. Look out!
🙋🙋✔✔😅😆
Subbed Ya. ✔✔✔👍
I cant drive that way !!
It’s right hand drive not left lol
Bro I changed mine and still doesnt start..error code 4B90
Hmm. That error code relates to your faulty fuel relay. You may need to double check your fitting. 👍
Did you ever figure that issue out?
Yes. Ended up being the relay... 🍻👍
that is the air suspension compressor relay not the fuel pump relay
Incorrect mate. Fuel relay. No air suspension on the e70 X5. 😉👍
@@GTARC_au what country are you in
AU. 🍻
@@GTARC_au Hey I have a e90 335D. Fuse box in front. I hit a pothole and now the engine cranks and cranks but doesnt turn on. Is it a fuel pump relay, or will it require coding of ECU? Thanks, from USA
Sounds very much like the pump relay. The ecu should be fine and not the cause of your issue... 🍻
Hey! How did you know, that it needs to be 70A?
I have E70, 2008 3.0sd version.
I changed it and boom it worked.
But still.. just asking cause i don't want extra problems. Is any relay ok..12V 70A?
OEM is rated at 70A. I certainly wouldn't go higher as it may cause bigger issues.
@@GTARC_au Okay thanks for that info and this video was really helpful! Only one, what i found a got decent info.
Thank You!
Awesome mate. Cheers. 🍻👊
Higher you can go its the contact rating. The higher the better. Lower will cause contacts to burn
I haven't got a relay in that location? Anyone know where it is, 35d 2009 .. thanks
BMW tried to make out feul pump was fucked took to my garage told them just change relay bang started straight away barstard to get to behind glove box people are mad going to the main dealer ie bmw

Great news. Good to hear your on the case. 💥👍🍷🍻🌟🌟🌟🌟

Awesome advice mate. Well done for problem solving your issue and for sharing it to others. I'm sure you will have helped many others get back on the road. Much appreciated mate. 🙏 🍻👍
Hi Gerard, I have the same issue, which relay did you change? thank you
@@authenticgardenuk110 I changed the 70 amp relay, but the new one still got hot and failed. You need to test the resistivity of your injectors, especially number 5.
