Thanks so much for uploading this video, changed it and cleared any faults now my car working like when I first bought it. No longer need to disconnect the cable connected to my battery, steering wheel lighter and heating does not turn on by itself randomly. Thank you Dean you legend! This is 100% spot on. I was changing my stereo and snipped a wire without disconnecting the battery and everything shut down except my wipers wouldn't stop even without the keys in. I changed this and everything worked fine again
did you hear a ticking noise in the passenger side by chance? my bmw (2006 325i) had a battery terminal fusible link unplugged while still connected and my car went haywire and all the interior buttons with lights started flashing. although my wipers didn’t start going? now the car is just dead in the water, tried jumping it but nothing happened. won’t even turn on interior lights when opening the doors. did yours still have interior lights and working gauge cluster?

Just a quick thought - that plastic box contains a lot of electronic parts. If... for example.... a condensator dries out it does not work properly. Due to that a relay may get stuck and sort of send or not send power. A dried out condensator may as well send less then expected power. And other parts as well. IMO it might be usefull to take the whole unit and find a local electronics repair shop that will go through all the parts, measure them by ohm, voltage and what not and replace just the parts that are dead or close to being dead. Usually those parts cost next to nothing instead of buying a complete new modulde (which you have to re-code again to work with your car).
Mine had the exact symptoms you describe but it was not the body control module but the voltage regulator. If you get multiple systems failing at same time also try the voltage regulator. Lost power steering center display radio spedo and tach jumping and stability control. Mine is a e60 m5 pre lci
Hi Dean. Thanks for all your videos. I was programing my BMW E70 X35d and the voltage stabilizer failed ie voltage got below 12 .4 v ISTAP recommended terminating programming and I did. Well now nothing will turn on and the car is dead electronical.. no PW, no ignition on, start stop will not work, ignition will not come on. Any help to diagnose will be much appreciated

@@sohibgayed4349 I had heard that some people say it would have to be reprogramed but thank God i didn't. I literally just took the old one out and replaced it with one i bought off ebay for 35.00. Luckily after the install mine worked fine and i didn't have to do any more to it.
Hello Dean! Thank you very much for the video, I bought one of these to test if it alleviates my problems. My 2004 545i doesn't save the programming, and on BMW when they ran the scanner, when I turn the key off and on again, it erases everything without saving, losing all the programming, the KM also comes back every time the battery runs out. Hi Dean thank you so much for this video. I have an e87 120d the left passenger airbag light and seat belt ligh comes on when someone sits on it. However after a couple of seconds the airbag light goes off, however the seatbelt light still stays on even with the seatbelt plugged in. I changed the seat mat and seat belt tensioner and still the problem persist. Do you think that this module could be the problem? Thank you
Hey, I hope you can help me! I have a 2008 BMW 528i. My iDrive screen doesn't work it gets power and I've even tried a new LCD screen but still no luck. I looked for the MPM module in the trunk but mine doesn't have one. Is there another location it can be in? Or would it be this kgm module that needs to change?

I am working on replacing the valve cover Gasket (My first time) on a 2012 550i which is dumping oil as soon as I can top off I get the low level within a few days. I am having some issues removing the wiring harness but still working on it. Is there a service manual that has detail removal in case I mess something up. I am documenting but it's tedious. came across your channel and im having trouble navigating to find my fault so i thought i would ask you direct see if you can help me . bmw 116i driving home one day and battery light came on and car started juddering then all the dials start going up and down and will not start off the button. i assumed the alternator had failed but no maybe starter no battery no.. ..found out the earth strap had corroded away , so i replaced it , but this did not fix it . so the place im at is that when i press the start button the enginge cranks about 1 10th of a turn and that is it . but will start every time from a rolling bump. so im always having to park on a hill. im in the uk and any pointers will be greatfully recieved. i have scanned it and only showing A6CF and A6D1 Thanks inn advance
Does this module need to be flashed to the car, when replacing with new module? Also does this module affect the logic 7 multimedia CCC drive? I have a customer with a 2006 E60 535IX door chimes tone from speakers as they should, but radio/bluetooth/dvd/CD don't play anything! I tested the logic7 amplifier in the trunk, and checked the L.E.D status indicators to make sure of functionality....amp is fine all speakers tone at the amp harness! He had me order new GRS speakers for every stock location, but I won't put them into a dead system! Please Dean: any advice you can give would be awesome as U.S. dealers don't want to help customers fix, then want to sell them new car!
I'm running into the same issue, I'm a mobile tech and was called in to a shop to look at car that came in for an intermittent (I was able to repeat this to confirm customer complaint) no crank no start the battery was shot and would not take a charge, all powers and grounds were sound, no voltage drops, system voltage at terminal 50. So being it was also the wrong battery so we replaced it and registered the new agm battery. No problems with the starterThe idrive is constantly rebooting (car was hot inside) till the a/c cooked the interior and now it works correctly. Could this be the culprit? How do I prove that this is the issue rather than just replacing it? This is a customer's car and I can't just throw parts at it. It also has multiple otter codes in it as well that I have to address. 2007 BMW 525XI 3.0L, L6, USA/Canada.
Does the cabin blower power go through this box? I have a 2011 328i and the AC fan is not working. I replaced the blower resistor when I got the the car a month ago. At the time I checked the incoming voltage and it was around 12V I think. Then few weeks later the blower stopped again. This time when I tested the harness connector (which was replaced by previous owner due to factory recall), there was only about 1.5V, possibly bogus. Basically no power. The 40A fuse is fine. I can't figure out what else could it be.

Hi BMW Doctor I have an e63 that's throwing regular faults when I switch on. It's always either PDC fail, or Rear number plate light fail, or Rear fog light fail. It gives one of these three everytime I switch on the ignition. Usually I can clear fault by turning the failed item on and off a few times and it clears. Also has an oil level sensor fault. - could these issues be the module you replaced in this video? Thanks
Thanks for the info. I have an e60 that i can't get the steering wheel to align, it has active steering system. I removed the battery and when i reconnect the steering wheel got crooked. Any help on that?
hi a have a e87 1 series and car cut out would not start so replaced battery, main power lead over engine to aultinator and starter and even replaced starter and still won't turn over .its like a flat battery ..Any help would be appreciated
Hello Dean. I’m hopeful that you can help me with this. My car is a 2014 BMW 320d . When I purchased it it had a stage 2 remap and an after market apple car play system fitted. Recently the car has developed a failure where the car will brake in wet weather. A diagnostic report for BMW has told me that the CID navigation is communicating with the brake system and under normal circumstances it allows the brake pads to squeeze lightly on the disc to keep them dry to prevent in emergency any slippage on the disc. My problem is that the fault is making the brakes press hard in the wet and then release after 2seconds. BMW have advised me to clear the remap so the can replace the chip in the CID which is going to cost me around 5k euro. My question is do you know what I can do and is there another solution Thanks 🙏

Hi DOC have a 630i e64 and the active stearing don't work transmission don t shift instrument cluster only light up and petrol gage works and Dynamic drive don't work is it that module ?
Will a bad KBM make it impossible to scan the modules via the OBD2 port? I could connect a bluetooth dongle with Dashcommand and read engine codes and info, but I was unable to connect to the car with my K-D Can cable. After replacing the KBM does it need to be coded to the car?
2007 E60 M5 Central electronics module issue I started coding with the Carly adapter a few years back, & I think it finally fried my Central electronics module better known as the control body module. Everything worked fine for a while but then I started noticing things I coded, for example welcome lights turning on when you unlock the car started not working half the time. Then ultimately I started getting a bunch of error codes. Abs, Electronic dampening control, start off assistance, check battery terminals, powering steering went out, idrive screen started flashing on and off. The cluster would glitch and I would be going 60 mph and my speedometer was at 0 mph. The music would stop playing then come back on. The latest thing is my sunroof will only open a little bit at a time. My battery was well overdue to be replaced so I did that. I took it for a a drive and everything was fine for about 30 min. Then it happened again, but only one error msg went off. It didn't give me like 5 different error codes. The sunroof is still only opening a little hit at a time and the music cuts out as well. I ordered a used CEM I/E CMB for my car. I'm trying to find out if there's any programming that needs to be done prior or after i install it. For future coding I will be getting ncs expert to code. Any information from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
Hi , great video. I have a BMW 2 series Grandtour 2015. It won't start, no lights on dash board and battery is fine, AA confirmed it when they saw the car but were not able to start it. Remote key fob not working and when I open door manually with key the alarm goes off. I hadn't used the car for 5 days and I didn't leave anything on to my knowledge. Please advise. Much obliged. Can this be a common cause of similar issues in a 2011 X3 F25? ive been quoted £500 for a new slip ring and another £700 for a new JBE. no mention of a Central electrical module.

Doctor I have 2004 745i and it discharges the battery, it uses the same amps when it is off as when it is on. and now I see engine malfunction reduced power, what do you recommend?
I have the same issue, it’s a 09 plate, 520 m_sport. Do you need to have it reprogrammed ? Wiper and radio work, now all instrument panel is dark. So is I drive. Any help much appreciated.
Would you be able to advise on my BMW series 118i? I was driving one day and then all the lights on the dash board flashed and the car broke down. It then wouldn’t start again and still won’t. Garage advised it wasn’t mechanical but electrical and they said it might be something specific to a bmw garage to diagnose. Any advise please?
My rear electronics module has an error on bimmercode. I went to bimmerlink to clear the code and it clears but when I run it again, it cones back. There's no backup on coding the rear electronics module so I click recovery and it says there's no backup avail. I tried resetting the ecu by touching both terms on the battery. I have esys enet cable which I was informed it would fix it from using veepeak. Problem still persists. PLEASE HELP!

Hi Dean HELP NEEDED!!!! User fault- I had my 2L gym bottle stored in the boot. Lid became loose, and emptied contents into spare wheel compartment. Needles & electrics went mad , windscreen wipers etc. Checked this forum, and found the 'water in boot ' scenario. Pulled apart, and to my dismay found 2 circuit boards completly submersed in water! I took these out, cleaned spillage, and dried/ cleaned the boards. Found that the MPM board had corrosion around the power supply wires. After further internet digging, it seems that just changing this box is not a simple plug in item? Can someone please enlighten me if this is the case? I've now replaced the MPM unit and now my windscreen wipers, indicators, light, traction control, abs etc are all working. My dash screen (behind steering wheel) has also come back on with odometer settings & time working. Only thing not working is the idrive system (eg audio, middle button, sat nav, bluetooth, and middle screen). I have checked all the fuses that i can find and all seem to be fine but something is telling me this will be too simple to be just a blown fuse. I have notcied there are alot of these problems with the e60's, but cant seem to find a certain resolution regarding the electrcal side short of visiting the stealership.... I understand the car will require reprograming if the MPM board is changed or will it? Has anyone had this issue - everything working other than the idrive? When the boards were swimming in the boot, traction control, and all electronics were either not working, or going haywire (eg lights on dash etc). Now its just the main screen & audio that dont work. Is it a possibility the tronics have short circuited, causing damage to boards further down the line? I would very much appreciate if someone could give some advise as to where to go from here as i really am on the verge of giving up, any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you
Sir, you just don't know how much I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with all BMW owners. I watched one of your previous video where there was no voltage at the washer bottle pump on a E60. (I have an 07 525i) In that video you stated the issue was the KBM module. Q1. If I buy this module new it is $400 US and used about $70. Which is best? Q2. Will I be able to drive my car to get it programmed/ coded? I do not have the means of coding myself but have found a local European shop. Please give advice. Thanks
Hi from NZ. Just got a 04 645i. Different warning lights have come on and then stopped coming on, but at the moment its the SRS light thats staying on. That it is intermittent caused me to think its an electrical thing.
Bmw 1 series coupe soft top wont go down and front windows wont go down ive plugged it into scanner and cant connect to the footwell module put a new footwell module in and had it programmed still no diffrence scanner says k can voltage below 5v could this be the problem other modules can talk to on scanner but not the frm but ive replaced it its had a new fuse box and ive just sent the junction box to be coded to see if that solves the problem but im at a loss with it
friend, I have a BMW E91 (330D touring) 2007, the radio only touches one side of the car, the left side is muted, it is not cable, the radio is not burnt out, but I cannot find out which module is responsible, as it there is no amplifier module in the rear case, on the left side, can you tell if this central module also controls the radio?

Hi, My 520i 2008 Engine: n46b20b. The voltage regulator has been replaced, the car started back and charging the battery without issue, after 3 days again, all light came on, airbag, transmission fault, instability driving waring, I checked the voltage on the batter, showing 10.15v and so continue to drop, I made it just into the carport of my house. I did recharge the battery,( new VARTA AGM just installed 3 days, the same time we replaced the voltage regulator) after recharge, the car started, but the voltage keeps dropping from 12,59v to 11.80 and so on. now, my question, is this again replace the voltage regulator, for sure maybe will fix this, but what's the clue then? there should be something killing this voltage regulator or so. thank you for providing feedback.

I need help pls! I had my car resprayed and it came back with a problem. Sometimes the central locking doesn't work along with the windows and the steering goes heavy. A garage changed that module and gave me the old one telling me the problem was fixed but it started happening again. It's been plugged in but just says it cannot communicate. Other modules have been tested on a bench and came back fine. When it goes wrong the dribber door will work manually but the passenger door won't even open from the inside using the handle.someone said to check the canbus. Both me and the auto electrician are baffled. Canbus not checked yet. Any advice? Thanks.
So I got into my 2008 535xi and after start up my instrument panel lit up like a Xmas tree radio started popping couldn't put i in gear and a bunch of other shit. I found water where the spare tire is and all the modules were wet. I dried it all up cleaned and plugged back but when I started it the same problem occurre do you think that it could be this part that you're talking about?

@@sohibgayed4349 I had heard that some people say it would have to be reprogramed but thank God i didn't. I literally just took the old one out and replaced it with one i bought off ebay for 35.00. Luckily after the install mine worked fine and i didn't have to do any more to it.

My 2004 545i doesn't save the programming, and on BMW when they ran the scanner, when I turn the key off and on again, it erases everything without saving, losing all the programming, the KM also comes back every time the battery runs out. I have an e87 120d the left passenger airbag light and seat belt ligh comes on when someone sits on it. However after a couple of seconds the airbag light goes off, however the seatbelt light still stays on even with the seatbelt plugged in. I changed the seat mat and seat belt tensioner and still the problem persist. Do you think that this module could be the problem?

Hey, I hope you can help me! I have a 2008 BMW 528i. My iDrive screen doesn't work it gets power and I've even tried a new LCD screen but still no luck. I looked for the MPM module in the trunk but mine doesn't have one. Is there another location it can be in? Or would it be this kgm module that needs to change?

I am working on replacing the valve cover Gasket (My first time) on a 2012 550i which is dumping oil as soon as I can top off I get the low level within a few days. I am having some issues removing the wiring harness but still working on it. Is there a service manual that has detail removal in case I mess something up. I am documenting but it's tedious. Hi, great channel. I've got a 57 plate 520d E60 with 150,000 miles. When I went to drive it today it felt really sluggish with no get up and go, I have no idea what it could be? There are no lights on the dash or no weird noises. It's usually motorway driven. Any advice appreciated.

came across your channel and im having trouble navigating to find my fault so i thought i would ask you direct see if you can help me .
bmw 116i driving home one day and battery light came on and car started juddering then all the dials start going up and down and will not start off the button.
i assumed the alternator had failed but no maybe starter no battery no.. ..found out the earth strap had corroded away , so i replaced it , but this did not fix it .
so the place im at is that when i press the start button the enginge cranks about 1 10th of a turn and that is it . but will start every time from a rolling bump. so im always having to park on a hill.
im in the uk and any pointers will be greatfully recieved.

Does this module need to be flashed to the car, when replacing with new module?
Also does this module affect the logic 7 multimedia CCC drive? I have a customer with a 2006 E60 535IX door chimes tone from speakers as they should, but radio/bluetooth/dvd/CD don't play anything! I tested the logic7 amplifier in the trunk, and checked the L.E.D status indicators to make sure of functionality....amp is fine all speakers tone at the amp harness! He had me order new GRS speakers for every stock location, but I won't put them into a dead system! Please Dean: any advice you can give would be awesome as U.S. dealers don't want to help customers fix, then want to sell them new car!
I'm running into the same issue, I'm a mobile tech and was called in to a shop to look at car that came in for an intermittent (I was able to repeat this to confirm customer complaint) no crank no start the battery was shot and would not take a charge, all powers and grounds were sound, no voltage drops, system voltage at terminal 50. So being it was also the wrong battery so we replaced it and registered the new agm battery. No problems with the starterThe idrive is constantly rebooting (car was hot inside) till the a/c cooked the interior and now it works correctly. Could this be the culprit? How do I prove that this is the issue rather than just replacing it? This is a customer's car and I can't just throw parts at it. It also has multiple otter codes in it as well that I have to address.

Does the cabin blower power go through this box? I have a 2011 328i and the AC fan is not working. I replaced the blower resistor when I got the the car a month ago. At the time I checked the incoming voltage and it was around 12V I think. Then few weeks later the blower stopped again. This time when I tested the harness connector (which was replaced by previous owner due to factory recall), there was only about 1.5V, possibly bogus. Basically no power. The 40A fuse is fine. I can't figure out what else could it be.

Hi BMW Doctor I have an e63 that's throwing regular faults when I switch on. It's always either PDC fail, or Rear number plate light fail, or Rear fog light fail. It gives one of these three everytime I switch on the ignition. Usually I can clear fault by turning the failed item on and off a few times and it clears. Also has an oil level sensor fault. - could these issues be the module you replaced in this video?

Thanks for the info. I have an e60 that i can't get the steering wheel to align, it has active steering system. I removed the battery and when i reconnect the steering wheel got crooked. Any help on that?

My car is a 2014 BMW 320d .
When I purchased it it had a stage 2 remap and an after market apple car play system fitted.
Recently the car has developed a failure where the car will brake in wet weather. A diagnostic report for BMW has told me that the CID navigation is communicating with the brake system and under normal circumstances it allows the brake pads to squeeze lightly on the disc to keep them dry to prevent in emergency any slippage on the disc.
My problem is that the fault is making the brakes press hard in the wet and then release after 2seconds.
BMW have advised me to clear the remap so the can replace the chip in the CID which is going to cost me around 5k euro.
My question is do you know what I can do and is there another solution

Will a bad KBM make it impossible to scan the modules via the OBD2 port?
I could connect a bluetooth dongle with Dashcommand and read engine codes and info, but I was unable to connect to the car with my K-D Can cable. After replacing the KBM does it need to be coded to the car?

2007 E60 M5 Central electronics module issue
I started coding with the Carly adapter a few years back, & I think it finally fried my Central electronics module better known as the control body module. Everything worked fine for a while but then I started noticing things I coded, for example welcome lights turning on when you unlock the car started not working half the time. Then ultimately I started getting a bunch of error codes. Abs, Electronic dampening control, start off assistance, check battery terminals, powering steering went out, idrive screen started flashing on and off. The cluster would glitch and I would be going 60 mph and my speedometer was at 0 mph. The music would stop playing then come back on. The latest thing is my sunroof will only open a little bit at a time. My battery was well overdue to be replaced so I did that. I took it for a a drive and everything was fine for about 30 min. Then it happened again, but only one error msg went off. It didn't give me like 5 different error codes. The sunroof is still only opening a little hit at a time and the music cuts out as well. I ordered a used CEM I/E CMB for my car. I'm trying to find out if there's any programming that needs to be done prior or after i install it. For future coding I will be getting ncs expert to code. Any information from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

I have a BMW 2 series Grandtour 2015. It won't start, no lights on dash board and battery is fine, AA confirmed it when they saw the car but were not able to start it. Remote key fob not working and when I open door manually with key the alarm goes off.
I hadn't used the car for 5 days and I didn't leave anything on to my knowledge.

Can this be a common cause of similar issues in a 2011 X3 F25? ive been quoted £500 for a new slip ring and another £700 for a new JBE. no mention of a Central electrical module.

Would you be able to advise on my BMW series 118i? I was driving one day and then all the lights on the dash board flashed and the car broke down. It then wouldn’t start again and still won’t. My rear electronics module has an error on bimmercode. I went to bimmerlink to clear the code and it clears but when I run it again, it cones back. There's no backup on coding the rear electronics module so I click recovery and it says there's no backup avail. I tried resetting the ecu by touching both terms on the battery. I have esys enet cable which I was informed it would fix it from using veepeak. Problem still persists. PLEASE HELP!

HELP NEEDED!!!!
User fault- I had my 2L gym bottle stored in the boot. Lid became loose, and emptied contents into spare wheel compartment. Needles & electrics went mad , windscreen wipers etc. Checked this forum, and found the 'water in boot ' scenario. Pulled apart, and to my dismay found 2 circuit boards completly submersed in water!
I took these out, cleaned spillage, and dried/ cleaned the boards. Found that the MPM board had corrosion around the power supply wires.
After further internet digging, it seems that just changing this box is not a simple plug in item?
Can someone please enlighten me if this is the case?
I've now replaced the MPM unit and now my windscreen wipers, indicators, light, traction control, abs etc are all working. My dash screen (behind steering wheel) has also come back on with odometer settings & time working. Only thing not working is the idrive system (eg audio, middle button, sat nav, bluetooth, and middle screen). I have checked all the fuses that i can find and all seem to be fine but something is telling me this will be too simple to be just a blown fuse.
I have notcied there are alot of these problems with the e60's, but cant seem to find a certain resolution regarding the electrcal side short of visiting the stealership.... I understand the car will require reprograming if the MPM board is changed or will it?
Has anyone had this issue - everything working other than the idrive?
When the boards were swimming in the boot, traction control, and all electronics were either not working, or going haywire (eg lights on dash etc). Now its just the main screen & audio that dont work. Is it a possibility the tronics have short circuited, causing damage to boards further down the line?
I would very much appreciate if someone could give some advise as to where to go from here as i really am on the verge of giving up, any help would be greatly appreciated

Sir, you just don't know how much I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with all BMW owners. I watched one of your previous video where there was no voltage at the washer bottle pump on a E60. (I have an 07 525i) In that video you stated the issue was the KBM module. Q1. If I buy this module new it is $400 US and used about $70. Which is best? Q2. Will I be able to drive my car to get it programmed/ coded? I do not have the means of coding myself but have found a local European shop. Please give advice. Thanks

Hi from NZ. Just got a 04 645i. Different warning lights have come on and then stopped coming on, but at the moment its the SRS light thats staying on. That it is intermittent caused me to think its an electrical thing.
Bmw 1 series coupe soft top wont go down and front windows wont go down ive plugged it into scanner and cant connect to the footwell module put a new footwell module in and had it programmed still no diffrence scanner says k can voltage below 5v could this be the problem other modules can talk to on scanner but not the frm but ive replaced it its had a new fuse box and ive just sent the junction box to be coded to see if that solves the problem but im at a loss with it
friend, I have a BMW E91 (330D touring) 2007, the radio only touches one side of the car, the left side is muted, it is not cable, the radio is not burnt out, but I cannot find out which module is responsible, as it there is no amplifier module in the rear case, on the left side, can you tell if this central module also controls the radio?
Will need to be coded that module if will get from different e60 with the same part numbers?

Hi, My 520i 2008 Engine: n46b20b. The voltage regulator has been replaced, the car started back and charging the battery without issue, after 3 days again, all light came on, airbag, transmission fault, instability driving waring, I checked the voltage on the batter, showing 10.15v and so continue to drop, I made it just into the carport of my house.
I did recharge the battery,( new VARTA AGM just installed 3 days, the same time we replaced the voltage regulator) after recharge, the car started, but the voltage keeps dropping from 12,59v to 11.80 and so on.
now, my question, is this again replace the voltage regulator, for sure maybe will fix this, but what's the clue then? there should be something killing this voltage regulator or so.

I need help pls! I had my car resprayed and it came back with a problem. Sometimes the central locking doesn't work along with the windows and the steering goes heavy. A garage changed that module and gave me the old one telling me the problem was fixed but it started happening again. It's been plugged in but just says it cannot communicate. Other modules have been tested on a bench and came back fine. When it goes wrong the dribber door will work manually but the passenger door won't even open from the inside using the handle.someone said to check the canbus. Both me and the auto electrician are baffled. Canbus not checked yet. Any advice? Thanks.
So I got into my 2008 535xi and after start up my instrument panel lit up like a Xmas tree radio started popping couldn't put i in gear and a bunch of other shit. I found water where the spare tire is and all the modules were wet. I dried it all up cleaned and plugged back but when I started it the same problem occurre do you think that it could be this part that you're talking about?
