If you have a BMW that does not crank and start it is very possible that it could be just a bad relay for the CAS module. If this relay is bad your car will not start. The symptoms are almost the same as a dead starter. The CAS relay is part of the Immobilizer system and without it you can not start the car. This should relate to:

Maybe you can possibly help me out I have a 07 bmw 328xi new battery problem I’m having is the car starts fine sometimes and then sometimes I get a slow crank and sometimes nothing . I don’t even know where to start would a relay do that or more towards the starter I need help!

This video helped me diagnose a no start/intermittent start with my BMW X6. Mechanic couldn't find the fault after doing a diagnostic check on the computer. Went home and looked for solutions on Google and RUclips and "boom"saw the solution here. Thanks alot. You saved me some bucks.

@@chente-ov2rn I took the relay just like yours on here to dealer, and the mechanic checked, told me it's bad. I got it home and replaced it and still not work. Any suggestions?
@@9011combo ya same thing it wasnt the module . It was the starter once I replaced it it turn on right away. But replacing a starter on your bmw is gonna be a little frustrating lol
@@chente-ov2rn thank you very much, I just dont want to tear it and find out its not the starter. The relay module was bad, and on the way back from the dealer ,I wasd so happy then when i installed it, its did the same as before. Yeah this car is frustrating me.
@@9011combo I'm pretty sure its gonna be your starter my module was bad to but once I replaced the starter which it took me 2 hours to replace lol it's all good.. good luck bro

Thanks for the helpful explanation. Today I just changed h8 angel eyes bulb and car didn’t start like this video just took the battery head for ten minutes then it came back but if it happens again I will also change this part because when I read rhe error codes I get this car acces system codes.

Hey guys thanks for all your help you've been there alot for me lol but I'm having the same issue except I changed the relay and I know it's that one cuz the glove box light went out with it and it's still not on I put a test light to make sure power was going to the relay and it is what direction can I go now cuz I'm stumped that the starts not there and the glove box and only some of the lights on the dash its like there's no on position

Hey this is a great video! but I can’t seem to figure out if it’s the same issue with my 2008 bmw 535xi. My alternator was bad so we replaced it but beforehand we replaced the battery. Battery wasn’t the issue however we left the new battery in. This was about a month ago and today I attempted to replace the battery back to the old one, we had to jump start it and it turned on after a few times trying and leaving it connected for a good 30 min. Left it on for 1 hour and turned it off and tried turning it on a few times but wouldn’t work. We reapplied the new battery and same thing, this time it wouldn’t make a sound while turning on but all the electrical components work and it was reading 12.1 v to 12.3v. Do you think it may be the starter after attempting to start up the vehicle after many many times? Or what could it be
My 2008 528i - 130k miles was running perfectly then failed to start at random after a grocery store stop. No Start, No Crank exact symptoms. Changing the relay did not work for me. I had to tow the car to a shop, installing a new starter was the solution. It's a 3.5 hrs to 4 hrs labor job. Thanks Auto Repair Guys for this suggestion, keep posting the videos. I had hoped it would work for me. Hopefully this fix works for others.
The relay is in the trunk of the 2008 528i. Same side as the battery. Not in the glove box. Auto zone and O'reilly Auto Parts stock the part. The BMW dealer spare shop was closed.

First, check the ground before doing anything, Jump the start, and put negative directly to the engine

Can this be an intermittent problem? I have this issue too. Being that all other modules and components are powered up that typi ally are when an ignition is in the "on" position, my first reaction was to jiggle the positive lead under the bonnet that runs off of the main post directly to the starter. The logic being a possible dirty connection between those terminals. It seems to have been working. But again... Could it just really be that relay happening to cool down enough to start while I'm out of the car jiggling that cable for nothing? All decent replies are appreciated.

Yeah I found out my starter cable runs all the way in the back
trunk connecting to the Terminal Distribution Fuse Junction Plate
and that's why my suv wouldn't start. I tested all the positive cables and found out one wasn't
hot which was the starter cable.

hi guys iv recently got a bmw e60 2005 reg now this car has been parked up for about 12 months, my mate got the engine steam cleaned the next day he tried to start it & it wouldent start, unfortunatley he has been detained at her majestys holiday camp ever since, so iv taken the car as a payment of debt [ his request] so can anyone please give me sum advice, the battery was disconnected/ it does turrn over but wont start.

Hi there, I have a 2009 320D that has a frustrating issue where after driving for a while in hot weather it refuses to crank when you try to re-start. If I wait about 30 minutes it starts and runs without any issues. No error codes are being returned, it has full normal dash lights, accessories etc, it just doesn't crank. Is this relay susceptible to heat on a hot day which could cause this issue?

Sup x5 world. 03 x5 3.0 no crank no start. After i diagnosed the x i found out the ecu see the its in D but its in Park tho. Also i can't communicate with my tcm at all
So with that say
1. Do i need and ecu ( guessing yes)
2. Does the ecu effect the tcm in anyway
3. Where does the cluster get its indicator for the shift indicator

Sometime, if you have one of those BMW with the keyless access, it could just be a tired or dead battery on the key fob. So.... before ordering a new relay or starter, just try to replace the 2032 battery inside the key fob.If the key fob does not send the signal to the immobilizer to let the car start, when you press the start button, it may crank but not let the engine start.
Thanx ,, how about if the key fob doesnt have a battery to replace? Like mine it says i have to buy the whole key fob because the battery charges everytime i insert it in the slot,

Doesn’t the e90 charge the key when it’s in the ignition? If so a 2032 battery would exode
Comfort access uses a 2032 and doesn't recharge when plugged in. Non-CA uses a proprietary rechargeable battery and recharges when plugged in.
i am having a strange issue where when i put the keyfob into the keyfob slot nothing happens not even any dashboard light indicates that i have put key into the slot but i have both keyfob battery and car baterry dead for 1 week now so lets see after i recharge car battery and keyfob battery mine is not comfort access.

I have a 2006 X3, and I've been told it's most likely the solenoid on the starter that went bad.

My x5 3.0d, I took for the diagnostic and computer say DDE.. (Digital Diesel Engene)
At first i had relay ignition,injection line disconnection.Replace the ivm and that fixed that problem.now > have multiple codes,all short to ground.Supply terminal 15 1b 53and54 codes,

And how to open glove box if my x5 its acting up and it's not getting no power, doors won't unlock, I push bottom to glove box and it don't open. Can you help bro.

Dude after hours and hours of no luck, your video although different model than my 08 535xi ended up being in the rear passenger side panel was the location for my CAS Relay and BOOM fixed my no start. Ended up being faulty, intermittently working and could not figure out what the problem was. So any E60 models rear passenger side just above the battery you'll find yours.
This is a good tip. I have the same exact car as you and having the same exact issue. I bet this is going to be quite common considering the age. My battery is on the charger overnight after trying to disconnect to test the IBS from the neg battery post (didn't work). Hoping this is it! Thank you for your post and the details!

I have a bmw 328i 2011 and im not able to get the car to crank it will only turn on dashboard lights and every other light works just fine but it won’t crank and the car even gives me no codes…. I even changed the starter today and nothing, i bought a relay and hopefully it works i also wanna try a ground cable but any suggestions???

I have a 2006 330i e90. It will not start nor crank, but everything on the dash turns on. If that relay is bad, and the steering mechanism is locked, will the bad relay also prevent the steering wheel from unlocking? I also noticed when I took the key out of the slot, the cars interior accessories like the dash, radio, stayed on, so I had to insert the key again to power it off.

I have a e60 M5 all the lights on the dash comes on but when I go try to start it I just hear a clicking noise and it doesn’t crack. I also have replaced the battery and tried to Jump it but the same thing happens do you think it’s the relay?
