    You don't need a nomad visa in the Philippines. You can just extend your tourist visa for 3 years and foreign sourced income isn't taxed. If the DTV allows me to stay year round, then I'll be back in Thailand!

    • @AbroadInThailand
      @AbroadInThailand  Месяц назад

      How many times do you need to extend the tourist visa for 3 years?

      @@AbroadInThailand You mostly get 2 months extensions, but it's not a nightmare like in Bangkok. In and out takes 10 minutes, and you only have to fill out a single page of information. Also, they have immigration offices all over the place. Manila area alone has more than a dozen offices.
      That's the reason I went to PH after my elite visa application for the old price in 2023 was rejected. Thailand is definitely better, but those goddamn visas.

    The way I read it is that the 180 day extension is only offered once during a 5-year visa term - not once every 180 days, but I hope that I am wrong cause I do want to live there long-term and this is the lowest barrier of entry available for TH at the moment.

    • @markwalsh3455
      @markwalsh3455 Месяц назад

      Yes, however you may be able to just apply for a new visa after that.

    • @willchu

      @@markwalsh3455 True, but the fact that I cannot stay longer than 180 days per a year (except for a one-time extension) might be a deal breaker for me.

      which will be valid for 5 years and allow holders to stay in Thailand for a total of 180 days each year. These days need not be consecutive, and the 180-day limit means that holders will not have their foreign income taxed by Thailand.

    Overall, the DTV Visa is wonderful news. The 60 day Visa on arrival is great too. Let's not forget education Visa for a cooking class that's been introduced (wink,wink) I believe Thailand realized Visa restrictions this past year, were too difficult. Ultimately, it's about generating more tourism income to compete with neighboring countries which have been fiercly gaining ground against Thailand in recent years.

    So I cn use it to learn Thai and also I am looking at wring a book so I will get this visa for that. So I should be able to do 180 days leave for a few days and come back for another 180 days and do this for 5 years as it is a multi entry visa. Then at the end of the 5 years do it all over again. I hear people saying you can only do 180 days in 5 years which is nonsense as that would make no sense as it's a Multi- Entry Visa,

    Hi Mike, I’m a little concerned this may in part replace the ED visa for lower level student courses but with the stipulation of 1 extension during its duration. Could this rule out consecutive courses for languages for example? Seems to restrict people to a maximum of only 360 days in a 5 year period.

    • @AbroadInThailand

      Good question. Only time will tell...

    • @markwalsh3455
      @markwalsh3455 Месяц назад

      It doesn’t say you can’t get another visa after you use this one up - just because it’s valid for 5 years doesn’t mean you’re unable to get a new visa after this one is used up.

    • @kohtime
      @kohtime Месяц назад

      @@markwalsh3455 not specifically but they are trying to cut down the number of non immigrant visa so it did concern me “education” as far as cooking, Muay Thai and languages might be pulled into the DVT visa and leave the ED visa for actual higher level education considering this group are being given more freedoms with these new rules… such as working rights and the ability to stay beyond the visa. Like I say hopefully all good but something to be aware of… also why emphasise the ability to extend ONCE on the DTV…. On face value things seem great! Hopefully once the details are fleshed out we will have a more detailed look but as it stands it seems a lot of wishful thinking is being applied to the new changes… for example on another channel suggesting this is more convenient for retirees therefore they should be considering changing from a retirement visa to DTV to save on the financial requirements having to lock money into a Thai bank. I’m sure this will be adapted when it starts leading to unintended consequences.

    Maybe they do this for getting taxes from foreigners? if you work 180 days a year in a country should pay taxes there. Also need to know if multientry or not.

      That's what I'm thinking as well

    • @toke182
      @toke182 Месяц назад +1

      i think is for the opposite, if you stay more than 180 days in thailand you need to pay thai tax, that might be why they are only up to 180 days

    • @user-un4zm6mu2o
      @user-un4zm6mu2o 28 дней назад

      I think the 180 days specifically allows visa holders to _not_ have to pay taxes in Thailand.
      Also, since the visa is valid for 5 years and the 180 days per calendar year do not need to be consecutive, it can be safely assumed that this is a multiple entry visa.

    So does this mean you get the visa for 5 years and can stay the whole time by applying for an extension once a year? or does it mean that in the 5 years you can stay for up to 180 days each year and can have one extension in the 5 years?
    Thanks

    • @markwalsh3455
