Just a guess by the way cooked Amsoil was faster. Here's the catch though. Some heat beat up oils really lose viscosity? By the bearing test I'd say Amsoil is still a strong protectant! I still want to see Renewable Lubricants (RLI) and Green Earth Technologies' G Oil in these tests. RLI's is Vegetable Oil Based Motor Oil, GAT's G Oil is made with Beef Tallow as its base. Both of them are Biodegradable and Non Toxic. There's a 3rd company called "Go Green Smokeless Oil" which is also supposed to be non toxic and maybe there are other companies making earth friendly motor oils. Project Farm could not only test how these oils perform in the engine but also how they, new and used, perform against patches of grass (dug up and placed in a tray of pots, of course.) I poured RLI's Low Ash 5w40 Diesel oil on my lawn (both New and Used) and the grass died initially but re-grew under a week later. Such a good application for a boat. RLI also make Bio Friendly Hydraulic Oil and have been in the game since the early 90s.

You're not getting $9, but $4 of actual product. Besides you don't know how long that product has been sitting. That's why they go %50 off, to prevent cut of losses. Amsoil you get exactly what you pay for and not by much more. Amsoil SS is only $10 if you're a preferred customer!

    I've researched from various customer reviews,lab testings from the suppliers,and even talked to some engineers of these oils. Reason I did all that was to find out what oil is the best to run in my vehicles. I came to the conclusion, my top 3 was Shaeffers, amsoil, and pennzoil ultra platinum. I was kinda disappointed that pennzoil actually beat out Shaeffers (which I run in my car). But I'm also glad too ,that pennzoil is a better price that shaeffers and is readily available through Walmart. Either oil is great to run in anyone's vehicle,but I'd also like to find out which oil will stand alone as the biggest of them all. Then you compare the results! You could also compare the color of the oil and the dirtiness of the filter media after passing through with clean oil.

    Project Farm, love your videos. Very well done.
    Remember the comment I made about me being in Australia and having access to this oil?
    Anyway, I thought to let you know that the penrite you have used in this test is the lowest grade penrite sell in it's full synthetic range.
    And yet it nearly made it to the top.
    The next stage up from the vantage is the HPR range which is their most popular.
    Then you have the 10 tenths premium which is a pure group 4 and group 5 ester blend.
    Then you have 10 tenths racing which is a shear free oil with group 4 and group 5 blend but with more zinc and additives at 2100ppm vs 1800ppm for the one above.
    The king of the hill of oil in Australia is Nulon Racing oil.
    This is an expensive oil which contains Group 4 base stock combined with Group V Alkylated Naphthalene.
    This is even more effective than any oil from Penrite with even less friction. This has 2300ppm of zinc and additives.
    I would love it if you bought one of these and tested them again.
    These are probably some of the best engine oils in the world.

      My Dad was a Master Mechanic certified by NYS, and Penzoil and Quaker State weren't his favorites either.
      But this was back in the 70's, early 80's. Not sure if this was because they used oil sourced from PA, or if it was just a poor formulation he say problems with.

    • @tylerh629
      @tylerh629 5 лет назад +1

      There was a rumor that Pennzoil sludged up many engines back in the 60's and 70's. I would bet money that it was started by a rival oil company.
      That being said, all oils sucked really bad back then. Hence the 3000 km oil changes recommended for all cars.

    • @laserflexr6321
      @laserflexr6321 5 лет назад +1

      @@tylerh629 The truth was closer to the opposite, if you ran non-detergent oil in an engine on dirt roads with not so great air filtration for 50k miles then hit it with a detergent oil, all that crap breaks loose at the same time, clogs the filter till it bypasses on high pressure, then you clog the lifters if they are hydraulic, or even worse the inlet screen on the oil pump and if you dont hear the clatter and shut it down soon enough you kill the engine.
      The moral to the story is if youve been running non-detergent motor oil( have to search for it these days) and decide to switch to detergent oil, do your next oil/filter change way early. The secondary moral to the story is dont run non-detergent motor oil.
      My dad told the story of buying cars from an auction some particular GM motor that I cant recall was his favorite to make out on, if it is clattering on the top end, he would open the door and look for an oil change sticker, if it said Havoline on it he would buy the car, dump a quart mason jar of kerosene in the oil and drive it home, pull the valve covers to clean all the goo out, take it back to the auction the next week and double his money. One of his buddies started doing the same thing, and blabbed to someone else and ruined his sweet scheme. You couldnt sell havoline oil much around here after that but you could get more than its worth for a clackering old worn out car with a Havoline sticker on it LOL

      People *still* use 15w-40 in their diesel engines?
      Man oh man... some ideas never die. 5w-40 is the way to go, especially in Winter climates.
      I run 0w-20 in ALL my gasoline engines, all year round. Almost 500,000km on my Sierra (rusted body forced it off the road but it is still my driveway plow truck!)
      Thicker oil does not mean better. Common myth from days gone by. Besides, did you see his frozen test? That is with 5w-30. Imagine what kind of thick molasses 15w-40 would be at only -10. The valve train will not receive a drop of oil for 5 minutes until it thins enough to run up the pushrod.

  • @raulduke7142
    @raulduke7142 5 лет назад +2

    I would like to mention something. I grew up in amsoil town and we used to change the oil on their test cars and would have to bottle the drain oil so they could get lab testing done. We ended up with a printout from them regarding wear protection tests they performed using many different engine oils, synthetic and conventional both. Many of you will be shocked by what im about to say, but of all the oils tested, amsoil won, but the #2 was 5w30 CONVENTIONAL pennzoil. It was the only conventional motor oil that made it into their top 10. Due to cost i never used amsoil, but it made me a believer in 5w30 conventional pennzoil, and since cost is low and i got the information from one of the leaders in sythetic motor oil, i figure why not.
    Anyway, great video. Keep em coming. Looking forward to the finals!

      @@wesmclaughlin7580 while that is impressive, Blackstone labs can't tell us which of the top companies is actually better. They'll all lead to long lasting engines if the oil has anything to say about longevity. The bearing test is like the taper ball rolling test, which, while still done, isn't actually a factor in modern engines anymore. All the other tests are more "valid" but as an engine is starting to be damaged from old age, I think an oil doing better on his bearing test will cling that engine to life the most.

    Also a suggestion is to let Penrite fight against schaeffers to find out the bronze (3rd) place. I think the champion combined with MotorKote would become the most optimal oil ever.

      Did you notice any change in "performance" that others have reported when they changed over? I believe it is mostly in their head and want to believe in the "increased acceleration" when it was doing that all along. My main reason for changing is for the increased cleaning and lubrication from highway driving with city driving in the mix.

    • @nawshis8

      Grizzleback07 definitely noticed a change in performance! I swapped both my cars over to Pennzoil because they had the rebate going on and was super cheap. Didn’t think anything of it until 2-300 miles in, both my cars are just snappier and more responsive! More so in my tsx. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 👌

      Brendan O'meally I have heard that as well, and it very well may be true. I reached out to "ConocoPhillips" about this, and they said I needed to contact "Phillips66" (I didn't know they were different entities). I have not had a reply from them in 2 months. What I am wanting to know, is if the Phillips66 branded oil is the same formulation as the Motorcraft, or if Motorcraft is a totally different recipe. Doing them side by side here, would help to determine that, I think.

    I came up with this thought as I was watching some commercials on the TV. There was a commercial about interior wall paint and it claimed to be more tough and better quality than the rest of their competitors, and that’s when I thought of you. I think a great test that would be similar to this setup in the future is square off different brands of interior wall paint and determine which is the best quality, bang for your buck, and can withstand the most wear and tear. Hopefully you see this comment and take this idea into consideration, because I am looking to purchase a home in the future and having this knowledge would be wonderful. Love all the videos you create and you help myself and all of your subscribers see the truth about these products we see and use in our day to day lives!

      Don't hold me to this but I think the Ultra was available initially in the US but then sales pretty much only went to the EU. I imagine PZ may have had a tough time keeping up with demand when it was new to the market. Also there was something about it meeting EU standards and wasn't needed in the US. But I agree with using the Ultra if you can get it. Why not? I think Ultra was only $1.50 more per 5 quart bottle at the time. BTW I noticed today that Todd has oil tests posted on his patreon site including PZ Plat and Ultra Plat.

    • @nelsblair2667
      @nelsblair2667 5 лет назад +1

      Kevin Sayles Both oils are nearly identical in performance for the first 10k miles. If someone changes their oil at 10k miles, then clearly Pennzoil was the winner, because it’s readily available at 40% of the price of Amsoil. I used to go 10k miles, until used oil lab results showed that 20k was better. If someone takes their oil to 20k miles, then clearly Pennzoil is the winner, again due to availability and price. Both oils are nearly identical for the first 20k miles. These oils may differ near 35k miles but until you see the data you might take this opportunity to 🤐. I have one engine at 321k miles and another engine at 99k miles. They each run fine and I have lab results. Do your homework.

  • @rustyaxelrod

    It might be interesting to test several sample of the same brand oil months apart (to get different batches), to check the consistency of their manufacturing.
    There has also been a recent change to the ratings on oil for Diesel engines, maybe before all the original formulas are off the shelf, it might be interesting to see how the same brand compares old vs new rating. Many posts on the forums by people who are suspicious the new formulas may not work as well as the old stuff.
    I worked at an automotive machine shop for a few years and it was “common knowledge” Penzoil was a high paraffin oil that would make significantly more deposits inside an engine (very similar to Quaker State). I’m a little surprised to se it doing so well in these tests. Maybe the product has changed, I may have to re-evaluate my position.
    Great job on the video’s! I enjoy watching and learning.
