Thanks everyone!
I own the 20 head and it sound killer even at bedroom level. The trick with this amp is to use an Ibanez tube sceamer in front of the amp and you'll get that higher gain setting. If your in metal don't touch that amp but if your like me and play blues/rock style. It is just perfect.
Hello, I live in an apartment and I'm really digging this amp. Some people have said it's too loud, but as I get my distortion mainly from pedals I don't need to crank it. Plus I intend to use the mid or low output setting. Will this work for me?
@@blasphemer1992 yes if you use it with pedals.
@@AndrewSmith-yt3hg that's good to hear because I already ordered it haha couldn't resist
Thanks Andrew as Im starting a Blues Rock band covering all tones from Beatles to RHCP/OASIS and think this could work great
The Boss SD 1 works just as well. Jimmy Page used and SD 1 with his Marshall's in the late 80s and Early 90s and his 1988 to 1993 tone was fantastic.
I worked at Guitar Center when these amps were released and I spent a ton of time on both through multiple cabinet configurations. The 20 sounds better. Doing some research I found out the 20 is cathode biased and the 50 is fixed bias. The 20 has a feel to it that that 50 couldn't cop as well as the 50 having a more strident mid range that couldn't be tamed.
Did u get to try the dsl? Is it better than the origin
@@73prd the DSL is a different beast altogether. It's more like a Mess Boogie feature and soundwise. The origin is more like vintage or boutique amp; it's not boutique build quality but the layout and sound. Intermediate players will probably love the DSL. If you're a pro though and appreciate a great amp like a 5E3, 6G3, jtm45 you'll probably dig the origin
@@taylorjeremy71 oh ok thanks I just sold my origin 50 head it was just way too bright and loud and piercing, but I like yr comment on the 20w one in that the mids are better and not as piercing, I'm just not sure wat to do I play punk and I'm torn between either a dsl20, origin20 or a joyo jackman through an orange pedal baby
I have the 20H, great amp, use it at bedroom levels, I use it as a clean pedal platform, sounds great. With the tilt, eq, presence you get plenty of eq'ing to work with almost any drive pedal. I did use it with an attenuator, still needs a boost to get the gain to hard rock. It's just easier to use pedals playing at a really low / quiet level for me.
Had the 50 and sold it and bought the 20 instead. The reason is purely power, I don't Gig and so while several testers prefer the 50 tone, the 20 sounds good enough and I don't need any more scorching loud amps! (already have a few blistering loud 100w Marshal heads)
I think the 20 sounds better and I think it's because it's cathode biased where the 50 is fixed bias
I wish they put the Gold piping across the front below the logo... Great Stuff
Me too...thanks stupot
20 Crunch. 10:04
50 crunch. 15:04
I've had the 50 for almost a month and I love it.
Hi... last week I sold the 20H and picked up the 50H. Paired with a 2x12 cab Marshall 1936V. I'm really happy!!! This will be my main rig for gigs live and practice in my garage... even the lower 5w is preatty loud but quite heasy to handle...
Absolutly the best Origin heads review so far! Just got the 50h for the same reason: room for clean sound on full (and eventually high gain on half) - btw, really creamy tone from this jazzmaster. Great combination! 🇧🇷🤟
Thanks andrecorleonebr
I gig with a fifty head...it's a good amp. The problem for marshall is these amps only come alive when cranked. And they're very loud. Try one in a shop at bedroom volume and you might be dissapointed. In a band mix they cut through, take pedals very well and are portable compared to the bigger heads. If you want more gain go DSL but for the money the origin series is nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe.
Ive been trawling reviews pre buying my 20 last week and haven't found any negative reviews.....where did you see them?
@Ato Zee is that miked up, or straight?
first, you made me buy a box of rock, now you're making me want an origin 50! serously thinking about it for clean stuff!
Haha...sorry
It seems the difference in overdrive tones without pedals is all on the selection of pickups....have heard other vid's, not much in a driven sound!...but here...So juicy....lol
Well, it works in the same way.
The signal to the amp could be amplified by a pedal, or just be stronger from the pickup itself. Either way the signal amplified by the amp is stronger, which leads to more breakup.
Ahh, that crunch without the boost and with singlecoils! Beatiful😊 Getting my 20 head in a couple of weeks. Gonna use it with a Marshall 2061x cab and drive it hard without dirtpedals in a rockband😁
Great looking Amps I love Marshall’s the 20 was nice but I agree with you the 50 is a fuller deeper sound where at the 20 sounds tinny by comparison.
I like the cleans on the 20, the crunch on the 50.
Got me again 🤦♂️ just cancelled the origin 20h I ordered.... upgrading to the 50w. Now my journey for a small low watt amp for home use has once again ended with another amp that exceeds my needs. But bigger is always better right....
Sorry...I went for the 50 because I only use it with the Two Notes Torpedo and I can really crank the amp because of it...both are really loud though
To be honest, it's not even worth trying 5 watt tube amps without any kind of attenuator for home use.
There are plenty of options for power attenuators today though. It is totally worth getting one.
Very interesting review! I'm enjoying my 20w head. I think it is loud more than enough for all my needs. Sometimes on the other and I would try also the 50w to get that punch in the cest. But as I rread in many comments, most of the people which got the 50w H, they use it at 10w even when they gigs. I would sell my DSL40CR and make the Origin 20w my first Amp, but I feel I don't want this every time I use it at maximum power in my garage :-( ...
It's a loud amp...the only reason I went for the 50 is that I always use it with a load box and cabinet simulation...that way I can control the volume and play it as loud or as quiet as I like...
They are basically the same amp internally except for power tube biasing (20w is cathode 50w is fixed) .
I may have missed something here. I played 2 of the 20 watters and neither had the grit this one does. Even with the boost on. Been tossing it around for a bit but held off. Doesn't seem controllable at high volumes with a tubescreamer. Gets all squirelly and squealy.
You really need to turn the master volume up to get a lot of that grit...I had the master volume on just about full for a lot of this video...which is crazy loud! I had it running into the Two Notes Torpedo which makes it much easier to control the overall volume
I just ordered the 50H last night, despite some of the crappy reviews I’ve seen on it. I came across this video today and you make that amp sound so good! … can’t wait for mine to arrive.
I went a little different route with my cab. I ordered the Supro 1799 Black Magick 2x12" Extension Cabinet, and I’m hoping that I just put together a tone monster with some fire breathing dragon tendencies 🤞 … I guess I’ll find out. But the thing is, if you want to find that perfect tone, the one you hear in your head, but can’t seem to squeeze out of your amp … sometimes you gotta mix it up and try something different.
I know exactly what you mean!! Trying something different makes things way more interesting…and this sounds like a fun combination…let me know how you like it once it arrives!
This Amp likes humbukers
this is probably the best demo of the two i saw on YT. well done.
ps: where is the in depth?
Thank you very much ObeliscO
i just bought this amp origin 20 definitely need a distortion pedal have 4 12 bin
To my ears, the higher gain sounds you dialed in on the 20 are way better than the 50. The bottom is flubbing horribly on the 50.
Even different tubes in the same amp can sound different. I guess the 20W is a class A and the 50W a class AB (Push/Pull) type of wiring. Just because of that, the overall feel between them cannot be the same. It's definitely not a volume thing!
Hello, a question, does this Origin 20 head have StandBy? Do I have to preheat the valves like every tube amplifier?
Nope, no stand by switch…I haven’t had any problems with mine…I just turn the power on and wait a minute or so
Own both great sounding amps for the price
Does the 20 watt still distort well at low power mode and low master? For bedroom playing etc
I think to get a good driven sound out of those amp you really need to push the power amp section…and that will get loud…even with the 20W amp
This question is about tone and response and not volume when cranking the gain and driving it. I just got the 20w and my disappointment as compared to vintage plexi‘s many of which I’ve had and still have is that the bottom end is really mushy and spongy with the low notes on the guitar. It does not hold tight. I am curious if the 50w because of the larger transformers has a clearer tighter bottom end. And I’m suggesting even playing it at the same volume as the 20w. Meaning if you keep the gain all the way up but reduce the master on the 50 or just switch the power setting on the 50 to the middle setting, if you try to match volumes between the 20 and the 50 will the 50 have more of a true plexi tone and the tighter bottom end? Also the top end on the 20 is a bit brittle and not quite as sweet as a real plexi. The 50 any better? Thanks!
I have not a found a setting on this amp that I am happy with. I mean unless you are playing very loud this amp is weak. You must have pedals with it. Tube screamer, overdrive and delay pedals are a must. Otherwise bleh. There are much better options. Good thing I got it in sale for $403.
I still really like my Origin 50…you have to crank it like an old Plexi …but then it sounds great!!
Would love to hear a boost into this, would be a godly sound. Kinda want one of these amps now
We will do that...a full video of the 50 with different guitars and boosts and drives will be coming up in the next few weeks
Just scored one and it’s fuckin great
I currently have an AFD100 that i purchased years ago and that doesn’t do clean, LOL. It was cool when i was younger but I like a cleaner sound now, which one would you suggest I get? The 50 or the 20? Thanks!
Both sound a bit bassy cranked with gain. Do these sound nice with a tube screamer style OD?
is the loop serial or parallel
Series
Sounds amazing! I just picked up a used 50h at a great price from my local music store yesterday, and I am loving it. Very touch sensitive and dynamic. Sounds amazing in the lowest power mode as well, and the master volume works very well in all modes. Takes all the pedals I have tried so far very well too. So far the standout has been the Jackson Audio Golden Boy, but I have a lot more to get through lol. And it loves Greenbacks for sure, which would make sense.
It is a very different amp from my 2203X, 2203KK, and DSL40CR, but still undoubtedly Marshall, and I love them all for what they each do. I unfortunately don't have a "real" Plexi to compare it to, yet lol.
You audio interface input is clipping. That is where the nasty distortion in coming from at 8:20..
No it wasn't clipping...it did briefly later in the video when I played the 50W Head...but I turned the input gain down straight away
Great review man...thanks
I appreciate that you played the same riff pretty much so that’s a good way to determine the difference in tones...
I’m having a toss up tho...maybe you could help-for bedroom/studio use what would be the best choice in your opinion? I’ve played the 50 and it sounds pretty good and the tube compliment is the same on the 20, however the different transformers may make a big difference in the sound. Having played both, what would you recommend?...I’ve always wanted a half stack whether I need one or not and I have the opportunity to get one finally...go with the big boy for only $100 or play it cool with the 20?...TIA...thanks again 😁
Did you get one in the end? Which one? Were you happy with it? I got a 20h in the sales and it really does work well for that mid 60's crunch tone through a half stack. Tone wise the 50h is tighter (its not cathode bias), has a bit more bottom and end and more clean headroom. I actually like the way to 20h clips and sags better than the 50 for the music I play. Also I found that when recording this amp, it was very much one of those amps that takes on the character of the room/space and the 'raw' output from the speaker (I was using a G12H-100 cab) is quite flat and neutral until you really push it.
Ive the 20 ones...grate grate sound amp but to cranck at home is difficult if you are living in a flat like me....
Yeah they are very loud...I use the Two Notes Torpedo Live instead of a speaker so I can turn it up all the way and control the volume coming out of my studio monitors
love the origin 50 head
Killer amp!!
Is it made in England?
@@epasternak4206 i think its made in nam but still marshall specs ,
Is the 20w loud enough to gig through a 412 without mic
Depends on your band, your drummer and the style of music you are playing!! But I’d say it should be loud enough…
@@TSFAHTPS yep just a 3 piece drummer not a huge hitter
Great video, i have the 20 head I’m bound to say this i guess but heard a-lot of flub on the 50 when pushed ? And the volume will rip your head off too on the 50 the 20 is plenty loud enough because lets be honest most players are bedroom hobbyists after all , I’ll rehearse with mine but at the moment Covid is ruining all of that kinda thing
Just subbed 👍🏻🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
man, that jazzmaster sounds amazing, what model is it exactly ?
Hi David...it's a parts guitar. Its a one piece swamp ash body by Palir Guitars with a very fat USACG neck - Seymour Duncan Antiquity I PUs and Mastery Bridge & Trem ...probably my favourite guitar!
Thinking about getting the 20w - I only want to play at home and don't have a cab. I presume I can use the DI out and plug that into my audio interface for recording? If I wanted to, could I plug the DI into my little THR10? Or would I need to get a cab? - Thanks for the upload, really thorough vid!
Just seen the 20w combo has a line out so I think that solves my problem - advice still welcome...
I'm pretty sure that you will still need a speaker or a "load" connected to your speaker output...you could get a loadbox of some sort - like for example a Two Notes Captor but there are tons of loadboxes available...most will have a headphone out and some kind of speaker emulation built in...but for recording I would really recommend the Two Notes Wall of Sound...it's a free plugin - you just need to buy a couple of IRs as it doesn't come with any...you use the direct out signal from the loadbox into the wall of sound and you will have a great recorded guitar sound that's totally silent! The other option is getting one of the Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister amps...they are great sounding amps, they cost about the same and they have a loadbox built into the amp...you can use them without a speaker connected, they have pretty good sounding speaker emulation built in as well - called "Red Box"...I might just do a video on all of this stuff
@@TSFAHTPS Awesome - thanks for the detailed reply. Funny you should mention the H&K - I have the TubeMeister 18 on my shortlist! With the H&K could I plug that into the audio interface and record away? - Thanks again, you got yourself another subscriber :)
Yeah the Tubemeister amps have a switch on the back where you can switch from 18W to 5W to 1W and then to silent...when you switch it to silent then you don't need to have a speaker or loadbox connected and you can plug it straight into your recording interface! The DI out on the Marshall combo will work too but you will still have sound coming out of the speaker...on the head version of the Marshall you MUST have a speaker or loadbox attached when you use the DI out otherwise you will break the amp
@@TSFAHTPS I got a response by Marshall on this topic. You can plug the ID out into a mix or audio interface without the cabinet plugged into the speaker out. The origin got a circuit which save the amp.
Hey, I couldn't find the more in-depth video about the amp that you said about. Care to share the link? TIA
50 sure seems livelier to my ears.
Yeah it was definitely a fuller sound
Yeah the 20 was a little flubby and didn't have that open kinda jangle.
ya theres a bit of sagging on the 20 but, personally I like a little sag
How do they stack up to the Bassbreaker you have? Considering the BB15 or one of the Origins.
I will do a video with both shortly...I'm just waiting for the Two Notes Captor to arrive so I can have both amps hooked up and A/B switch between them
Oh and the Bassbreaker is definitely more versatile...but there is something about that Origin amp I really like...both great amps in my opinion
The SuperFunAwesomeHappyTime Pedal Show! I have been waiting on the 16 ohm Captor since I ordered in February!
Crap...that's a long time...hopefully mine should be here early next week
something like this? ruclips.net/video/OB6QGPvYJMo/видео.html
Good review. But, the bass needed to be turned down a little on both amps. They sounded a little flubby.... I play through real Plexis and turning the bass down when turning gain up is a common practice to remove the flubbyness.
It would be cool to see how well this amp takes a variety of Overdrive pedals
We will do a full demo of the 50 with a whole bunch of different guitars and different drives coming up soon
I've tested it with pedals and it's a great pedal platform.
I own the 50. Seems to take pedals well as a clean platform, effects loops works well but only kicks in if you activate it via the footswitch.
I have a 20watt and use a Friedman od pedal and it is amazing. I play Zeppelin to slayer to kiss. And it works great!
Nice review man, I was thinking for the 20 for a budget solution. But with 100 more the 50, 100% worth it. Nice playing too. :) Hi from Greece.
Thank you very much!! It just depends what you are after...the 50 is a fair bit louder so if you want a clean amp with more headroom then the 50 is the way to go...if you want to drive the amp a bit then the 20 will break up at more "normal" volumes even at the higher power settings
@@TSFAHTPS No worries, I am looking for a budgets solution to be fair. So the 20 will do just fine for me I think. But the 50 wouldn't be much of a difference for 100E. I will try the 20 tho in store the coming week, With my rig. So we will see. It's a future investement. Not that I will get it tomorrow. Thank you for your extra info tho cheers, have a good one.

would you mind to tell me wich guitar are you using? excelent job
Hi David...it's a parts guitar. Its a one piece swamp ash body by Palir Guitars with a very fat USACG neck - Seymour Duncan Antiquity I PUs and Mastery Bridge & Trem ...probably my favourite guitar!
thanks!!!
Thank you Pedro...the guitar is a parts guitar...it’s a swamp ash body with a nitro finish, a very fat USACG neck and Seymour Duncan Antiquity 1 (50s style) Jazzmaster PUs ...it’s a great guitar!!
Great review! In any opinion the 20 sounds more focused. The 50 is fuller sounding bu the bottom end seems flabby. Sorry if I missed it but were these both direct or did you have them plugged into a speaker cab? You earned my subscription for sure! Thank you!
i was deadset on buying a 20 head when they were first annouced. played one in the store and the 50 sounded way better. very suprised considering theyre supposed to be the same circuit just one less tube. even in the lower power modes vs the 20 in full power it was different.
They both have the same tubes and the same amount of tubes...2xEL34 & 3xECC83...they have different looking transformers in there...I know very little about all this stuff but I'm sure that's where the different power and tone comes from...but yes the 50 definitely sounded better to me too...much fuller...I did like the 20 better when I played both combos...but that could be the 10inch speaker too...
Oh wow i thought there was a difference in power tubes. Transformers make a huge different Ive come to find out. 60s super reverbs and bandmasters look the same on paper but the transformers make all the difference. Great video, ill follw you and look for more good stuff in the future. rock on
Thanks Dave
I am new here. Great channel! Thank you.. marshall origin 20 or bassbreaker 15? I have a new dsl20cr and i love it. I like most clean and cruches.. with sparkle.. what do you tell me, who is more vintage marshall - origin 20 or bassbreaker 15? Tk you again!
Good question...I am going to make a video with both amps soon...
50 sounds more raw , dirty nd vintage than the 20
It has this unexpected grind nd anger
El84 vs el34 I'm the 50, superior tubes in my opinion
In my experience playing both, the 20 is a little tighter for palm mutes and tight low string riffing. The 50 has more volume and girth but is harder to get a tight palm mute response. On both you need to lower the bass the more you’re cranking it and pushing the gain to tighten it up.
@@Skoora What you wrote makes a lot of sense :)
@@gdog11 the 20h is also two el34 power tubes.
What speakers are you using for them?
I’m talking about the setup at 5:20 …it’s connected to a Two Notes Torpedo Live which is a load box and cabinet simulator…the cabinet is one of the official REVV 4x12 open back cabinets …and from there it goes straight into Logic
But they are a one channel amp, aren't they?
Yes and no…there is a footswitchable boost which gives you kinda like a second channel - it’s pre gain stage so it gives you a gain boost
@@TSFAHTPS thanks, yes I saw that after I posted my previous comment. And then naturally once you start clicking on different effects through the effects loop that will also help.
To me it reminds me of the differences between a 1974x and a 1987x. The EL84 valves to not quite have the oomph of the EL34 ones. They have a little jangle and sweet treble. The sound fans of 18 watt clones like. I suspect we will see these amps become favourites for amp modding like that Epiphone Valve Junior did (because they do not cost heaps, yet are decent amps to learn modding on).
What do you think is better for the John Frusciante tone, the DSL 20 watt head or the Origin 20 watt head? Or another amp on a budget?
Has anyone tried the JHS attenuator for this? It’s so cheap
hi , nice tone tho , is the origin 50 a great pedal platform you think? thanks!
Absolutely...I think it's a great pedal platform...we will do a proper demo soon...
That will be so nice! Hope it coming out very soon! Have a nice one
I love the Silvertone in the background. Made me laugh as I have it in my hand, well I have the 1454 with the bigsby.
They are GREAT guitars...there will be a video about it soon too
I am subscribing to your channel to see the video you will do on the silvertone.
I couldn't see the piping at all until I saw it in the light.
Is there much volume difference between those two in the lowest mode? :s
Yes a little bit...the 20 is definitely quieter on the "low" setting
Is the Origin 20 loud enough to face a drum kit?
Depends...if you play music where you need lots of headroom - like metal for example...then not...if you like the sound of the amp working hard then yes
Yes !
Hi mate,,, for me who only plays occasionally in a small 3 piece covers pub band, and a lot at home,, would the 50 H be too loud?
Possibly...it’s a LOUD 50W head...but it depends...if you just want a clean amp with lots of headroom and get all the sounds out of your pedals then this will work...if you want to hit the amp a bit harder to get some breakup it’s probably too loud for home use. In a band the 50 should work pretty well...still very loud but it gives you headroom for your pedals! Hope that answered the question
@@TSFAHTPS Would the 20 watt head possibly suit me better? I want too keep my pedals to a bare min' and try to the get a old plex sound from the amp, just a reverb/delay ..
@@TheBluesine I just got then 20 with a 212. I'll tell you the low 0.5 watt mode is still loud throughout the house if you're trying to get a super crunchy sound out of the amp itself! Sounds nicer than a little combo at low volume with dirt pedals though. I havent jammed/gigged with it yet but experience tells me it will be plenty.
Lol, i was just watching demos on the 50 as I’m super interested. It was meant to be
Thats the one I kept...so there will be a full demo of it in a couple of weeks
The SuperFunAwesomeHappyTime Pedal Show! Yea, was pretty hyped when it turn out to be the case. Aw yea
Ordered one today btw
Oh cool...you will like it...I really think it's great!
Not sure I approve of your testing method here. Not that you should care. :) But wtf: why would you want to buy a tube amp voice in a classic style to run it through speaker sims? DI is always junk on low end amps and these are no exception imho. :)
I really like the speaker sims...we did a video where we compared the speaker sim to the actual speaker we always use and it was pretty much impossible to tell the difference...AND...this was an unboxing and first impressions video...there is a full video on the Origin running into an actual speaker on our channel
Good review answered my questions
What bottom speaks etc numb.9
Still don’t know what you are talking about?!?
Sounds like a pillow in front of the speakers
Hey hey. Having tested both the bass breaker 15 & origin 20 which one would you recommend getting? Cheers
Depends...I really really like the BassBreaker 15...super versatile...great clean, great low gain sounds and great (very un-Fender) higher gain sounds...I even really like the digital Reverb a lot of people whinge about...BUT...every time I plug in an overdrive or distortion pedal I seem to gravitate towards the Marshall...it just seems to take drives so well! I'm trying to get a hold of another Origin 20 to do a shootout between the BB15 and Origin 20...
@@TSFAHTPS Thanks for replying. Damn man. I got a Hot Rod Deluxe and thinking of giving it away. I know it sounds stupid but I cant us it properly in my house for recordings. The marshall attenuation seemed cool really or even the fender 15watts.
One of the best things I've ever bought for recording is the Two Notes Torpedo...it's not cheap but it sounds amazing...and it can be totally silent if you want. A cheaper alternative is the Torpedo Captor and plugin CabSim called 'Wall of Sound'...killer stuff...check it out for home recording
@@TSFAHTPS Yeah I've checked those out. Nice alternative indeed. You think bassbreaker wont take pedals as good ?
It does take pedals very well and it sounds amazing...I just seem to always go for the Marshall if I try out drive pedals...it just has something I really like when I run Overdrives or Distortions into it...overall the BB15 is much more versatile and it does take pedals really well too...the Marshall just does something to ODs & Distortions that's really nice...just to add to the confusion...I just got an old Ibanez Tube Screamer Amp..TSA15H...15W Head...it's a Fender Princeton style amp with a built in Tube Screamer and Boost...and you can switch it down to 5W...it's a GREAT sounding little amp and you can find them very cheap...very good pedal platform too
I ordered the 50 :)
So are these supposed to sound like old Plexi's or what?
Not sure if they are supposed to sound exactly like old plexis...I think it's more meant to be a similar "type" of amp...it's a clean-ish amp where you really have to push the Poweramp to get overdrive...which sounds (and feels) very different to amps where the overdrive comes mostly from the Preamp...
We know
Not what you mean…?!?
50 H kills 20 H
I dunno man. I think they sound a little different. The 20 has a lot more sag dimed than the 50. As someone who owns big twins, I know that 50 watts is not going to work for me at home or in the studio ..
Nightime playing & Weight - Volume of the 50 kills too - 20 Wins for me ! !
Cant decide!! Cant......
@@kaparskii ordered the 20w head few minutes ago. I think is the right choice for me. Good luck
@@bedroomjam2191 I just ordered the 20 as well

That’s the awesome thing about RUclips …just skip the unboxing…right and the beginning of the video it tells you the time to skip to when the unboxing is done!!
Bad product by my brand here. ☹️
I came to the same conclusion... the 50 has a bit more beef. I bought that one. I've played about 20 gigs with it already, and it performs really well. I usually use it on mid power with the gain set at noon so I can get the power valves cooking. It takes a boost pedal really nicely to get into heavier territory... Fulldrive in Comp Cut mode works an absolute treat! The low power mode allows for a bit more amp gain on a small stage but just doesn't quite sound the same. Really decent amp for the money!
I will have to try the FullDrive through this...yeah the lower power settings seem to thin out the amp a bit...and it is a GREAT amp for the money
I hear ya... I’ve done about 10 gigs since I got the 50w head. I was using a hand wired 59 slp that was a kit. This is a bit more functional for me. I use the mid power setting as well in smaller clubs. Lots of volume that needs to be tamed but no problem if ya know what yer doin. I use a boost pedal at the front of the chain (stays on all the time) then compressor into a Souldrive into another boost pedal for solo boosts. The boost on the amp is totally useable and I don’t even need the Souldrive in the chain at times. Set the amp gain at around 6-7. I love the 50watt.
I can't believe that I'm the only person who hears a giant "THUD" every time the pick hits the strings with these amps. I bought the 20C, and it was awful. It sounds like a compressor is on full the entire time. I'm so confused why people all seem to think this amp sounds good when Marshall makes much, much better amps than this
Can you hear it in the video too? Not sure - I don't seem to hear that...I really like it...it does compress quite a bit as I had the master volume fairly high for most of it...and on full for some of it...but no thud...nothing that would annoy me anyways
I agree. I thought the dsl40cr was wayyyyy better than the origin 50 when I tried them out side by side recently. Just wish the 40 had a head option. The origin can't handle humbuckers too well. Lots of weird clunk going on. They sound great with single coils tho. But even then, DSL is still the way to go imo
You may not understand these amps. Look at the model name and go from there. Think in terms of this amp being a great pedal platform due to all that headroom before it breaks up. Reminds me of an AC15 at times.
too many bought in the hype, it's a dog imo I returned mine
Marshall does indeed make higher level amps, for a price. I avoid the word "best" when discussing such things though. Like the original Plexi amps, they all sound different and a 100 watt head will rip your ears off to get it to sound, well, you know, best.
Flavors for the ears, etc.
i don't know what it is but the sound i hear through my headphones is really muddy and compressed. your demo doesn't convince me at all....
I might have to listen to it through headphones...it definitely would be somewhat compressed as I had the master volume up rather high...so the amp would naturally compress at those volumes...
@@TSFAHTPS And?
@@Gjuby and what? Have I listened to it through headphones yet...? If thats the question then no I haven't sorry...I'm flat out at the moment...I'll get to it soon
Ok. Its a pity you kinda ruined your demo...
I had a listen to it on a couple of different headphones and I can hear what you mean at times...it seems to do it on headphones that emphasise the bass frequencies a lot...but to me it seems to only do it when I have the master volume and boost on pretty much full...this amp is not really a distorted amp...I think most clean-ish amps when fully cranked will crap out and compress and fart a bit...in a real world scenario you would rarely - if ever - run those amps at those volumes...also in the room at the time I don't remember hearing it at all and through my studio monitors I don't really hear it either...I always do as little editing on the audio as possible...maybe I should roll off the lower frequencies for headphone users
First
Cut the bass....waaay too woooofy!
Speakers yuck
This dude's acting like he just woke up!
Maybe he’s not acting....
you talk too much between test… no real
a/b comparison if u stop everytime you change amp. please simple test w/chords clean comparison between 2 series then repeat w/overdrive . simple but works better
Sounds like dog shit. Made in Vietnam....figures.
I think they sound great...where they are made doesn't necessarily make any difference
