As a visual artist, I often talk about hitting that point between being enigmatic and accessible. Pink Floyd at their best do that at an extremely high level. Even though they were around in my youth, I have only really listened to them in recent years, and like you, I am struck by how moving their music is. Nothing is in a hurry to reveal itself, every part is given its own time to evolve, and their sense of dynamics in the arrangements is phenomenal. Shine on, Sarah!

Don't get me wrong: "Shine On" is a masterpiece from the beginning to the end. But I must point out that the first part (I-V), the most famous, is mainly a slow, contemplative and, I have to be frank, pretty conventional blues, while it is this second, overlooked part, VI-IX, that carries the fire for real! Much more energy, much more crazyness. This is the real treasure! By far the best piece in this album.

Everyone has their own favourite Floyd albums but for me it's Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals which were the soundtrack of my teenage years. You can really hear the new direction that the band was taking in the Meddle album with tracks like "One of These Days" and "Echoes" and yet it still retains some of the English quirkiness of the early Floyd.
There's a beautiful recording of the last time that David Gilmour and Rick Wright played Echoes together here: ruclips.net/video/zrProK5R7ms/видео.html
Or you could go back in time to this version when Gilmour and Waters were still friends: ruclips.net/video/y-E7_VHLvkE/видео.html at Pompeii

@@keeffyg Yes, The Wall. I tried to like it, because everybody says it´s a masterpiece. Can´t get it though. It´s not for me. I find it bombastic and dare I say pretentious. Couple of songs I like are Mother and Young Lust. Comfortably Numb I realy do not like. Maybe I heard it too often or it´s just that I find it not interesting, too boring. To each his own I guess. Personally I would like to ad The Division Bell as a great album. Yes, it´s a different sound and perhaps a bit too poppy for some, but at least it´s good pop.

    • @keeffyg
      @keeffyg 2 года назад

@@praapje Something about the feel of Comfortably Numb resonates with me and feels very familiar. The guitar solos are pretty good too (as are those on the live versions of Hey You). Each to their own I guess. I quite like The Division Bell but although Gilmour writes some really nice tunes his lyrics rarely seem to have the depth and emotion of Waters' work. The Final Cut isn't particularly memorable but there is an edge to Gilmour's guitar solos that always makes me feel that it was his way of expressing his emotions as things fell apart. There's a nice dance between the bitterness of Waters' words and the bite of the guitar as it cuts in. However you look at it they made a lot of good music over the years and with their light shows and sound systems they were a pretty impressive sight in a big stadium long before many others could put on that sort of show.

Hi Sarah, another great Pink Floyd reaction. I know you appreciate the audience and we appreciate your genuine and very natural reactions. I liked how you picked up on the repeated guitar sound from parts 1-5. This is the perfect music to play to in the background when moving house as people come and go.
I helped my mother move many times in my teens all the way into my 30's, right up until a couple of years before she passed away. My parents had divorced so I sort of became her adult male helper, moving things around as required. On moving day she always got very emotional and would be in tears. I always had to put things down and help her think positively, while trying to pack everything last minute before the removal guys came. I sense your emotion. You are never alone. I wish you all the best for a positive day. God bless you and your little family.

Moving is NO fun, that's for sure, so thanx for taking the time to entertain us with your reaction to side 2 of Wish You Were Here! Regarding "the start" of part 6, you may remember that the blowing wind actually begins at the end of part 5... It is indeed "all connected"!
IMO, every lp as a whole, beginning at least with Ummagumma and going all the way to The Wall, is a total experience that you will enjoy equally... Further, The Wall was made into a feature length rock-opera film, with many of the individual songs available on YT. Check out the film version of Comfortably Numb to see what's available there!
Wishing you and your partner happiness in your new home.

13:31 You can hear Richard Write quote from “See Emily Play” which was a very early Syd Barrett song from Pink Floyd. music.ruclips.net/video/HwV3aTh6pi8/видео.html&feature=share
The band`s work with Syd puts everything they did up to Animals into perspective and makes the experience that much richer.

There is another band from the same time period (early 70's) called YES.....any studio versions of the songs "Roundabout" "Starship Trooper" .... "And You And I" ... "Heart of the Sunrise" ... "Yours Is No Disgrace" ... and the long 20 minute track "Close To The Edge" any of those are really great tracks. Yes is also progressive rock and they use all kind of electronic goodies to enhance their songs.....you could check those out at some point....

So lovely to watch you getting into this track Sarah, yes it is very beautiful with wonderful tones and colours and moods all creatively entwined into one masterpiece. I have come to the opinion that this album is even better than Dark Side of the moon. I luv Dark Side don't get me wrong but the production and layers of perfectly chosen tones and musical motifs, are improved and just brilliant and so satisfying..

Sarah, I enjoyed your reaction to both halves of this Pink Floyd masterpiece so much! I wish you much success and happiness on your channel, and would appreciate it if you could consider one day reacting to "Love Of My Life" by Queen, live at Wembley Stadium, 1986! We are glad you were introduced to Pink Floyd too! Take care,

You have such a beautiful voice and accent. Music obviously means a lot to you. I think you'd like Jeff Buckley. His album Grace is wonderful.

Definitely The Dark Side of the Moon which came out just before Wish You Were Here
But again tracks transition directly into each other so in a perfect world its best done in two hits (side 1 then side 2)
I know.... Big ask but as an "old guy" who grew up listening to PF trust me.... Its worth it to avoid abrupt cuts / ends😉
