Remember you can enjoy Pink Floyd without drugs. But you cannot truly enjoy drugs without Pink Floyd

Best comment EVER
Pink Floyd will be viewed in the 21st and 22nd century the same way WE see Beethoven and Mozart now. Pink Floyd will the 21st century's classical music.
Exactly right
You do realize we are already 23 years into the 21rst century?
I feel like they're already seen that way
😅😊
Well said
This album was released in 1975, believe it or not. A masterpiece.
The inspiration for this song is such a sad story. Imagine sitting by and watching your friend deteriorate into complete madness...
I personally have witnessed it first hand
@@MollyBoyTV I'm sorry to hear that brother. I have as well. My older brother.
I don’t have to imagine. My daughter’s schizophrenic. Creative, brilliant artistically gifted. Now, talking in circles, lost in her head.
@@bethellen1962You may want to increase her omega 3 intake if at all possible. Just a thought and I wish you well.
Young Sir, big respect to you, you’ve dived into a massive rabbit hole and to your credit you’ve asked questions you’ve listen to the tracks you’ve taken on board comments fair play ….I sincerely hope you continue and enjoy your journey.
They’re not really “long introductions”, they ARE the track, it builds and ebbs & flows, like a river, there’s whitewater and waterfalls, with rainbows & diamond drops, ie lyrics and crescendos, but it’s all part of the harmonious flow. Musical awesomeness.
Nick Mason never gets enough credit for their sound over the years........................just sayin'......:)
This is why people say that parts 6 - 9 are the best... The Floyd just settles into so many grooves that words cannot describe. Genius!
Nope... 1975 !
Pink Floyd is a spaceship! You leave this world.
The difference is that David Gilmour is playing on a lap steel guitar with slide until the theme section comes back 🔥
Every song you hear from Pink Floyd will be your favorite.
2 things he said in this reaction have completely won me over: "I feel like someone is reading me a story, not with words but with sounds" and at the end, "It's MAGICAL". Yes, yes, YES! Also he notes the use of a synthasizer and assumes this came out in the 80s, but no child, this came out in 1975- THAT'S how avant guard Pink Floyd was! And yes, Mollyboy, you don't have to say much. We all see the love on your face, and we love you for it ❤
MB, Hoosier Geezer here, I am 69 years old, I really enjoy your channel! I have been listening to this music for 60 years. It’s great knowing that you’re listening for the First Time to music I Love! (Pitch the cigarettes, twist a fatty! Don’t give Cancer a Chance!) Peace.
Adding this from Wikipedia so you have the full story… Syd left/they forced him out in 1967.
Syd Barrett's visit
edit
On 5 June 1975, on the eve of Pink Floyd's second US tour that year, Gilmour married his first wife, Ginger.[nb 2] That day, the band were completing the mix of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"[nb 3] when an overweight man with shaven head and eyebrows entered, carrying a plastic bag. Waters did not recognise him.[8] Gilmour presumed he was an EMI staff member.[22] Wright presumed he was a friend of Waters, but realised it was Barrett.[25] Mason also failed to recognise him and was "horrified" when Gilmour identified him. In Mason's Pink Floyd memoir Inside Out, he recalled Barrett's conversation as "desultory and not entirely sensible".[26] Cover artist Storm Thorgerson reflected on Barrett's presence: "Two or three people cried. He sat round and talked for a bit but he wasn't really there."[27]. According to Gilmour, Barrett "came two or three days and then he didn't come anymore.".[28]
Waters was reportedly reduced to tears by the sight of his former bandmate. When fellow visitor Andrew King asked how Barrett had gained so much weight, Barrett said he had a large refrigerator in his kitchen and had been eating lots of pork chops. He mentioned that he was ready to help with the recording, but while listening to the mix of "Shine On", showed no signs of understanding its relevance to him. Barrett joined Gilmour's wedding reception in the EMI canteen, but left without saying goodbye. Apart from Waters seeing Barrett buying sweets in Harrods a couple of years later, it was the last time any member of the band saw him alive. Barrett's appearance may have influenced the final version of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"; a subtle refrain performed by Wright from "See Emily Play" is audible towards the end.[26] Waters said later: "'Shine On' is not really about Syd-he's just a symbol for all the extremes of absence some people have to indulge in because it's the only way they can cope with how fucking sad it is, modern life, to withdraw completely. I found that terribly sad."[29]
MB's face looks like he's thinking 'this can't be right, but it's,like, perfect!'
Pink Floyd is all about the music, not about songs. Normally listen to songs, like in a playlist, but with PF you experience the music.
Tea is also an acceptable beverage to drink while you listen to Pink Floyd.
Carry on.
I really love how Pink Floyd can evoke such clear imagery with music. There are parts of this song that sound to me like what light twinkling and surging through a faceted diamond looks like. It's amazing. Another example of this for me is in their song Sheep - Gilmour's guitar comes in like chopping, slicing blades. 💜🤘🏽
Credit where it's due, you do seem to actually understand Pink Floyd's music unlike some other reactors, keep up the good work there are so many more amazing songs to discover
I bought the album immediately upon release and it has been a constant companion these nigh on 48 years. It's great to see a whole new generation discovering Floyd's music. I'm thoroughly convinced that people will still be listening to them in a 100 or 200 years. If your so inclined try the following album "Animals" which has a completely different atmosphere to "Wish You Were Here" Recorded just as punk was breaking through its themes are as angry, cynical and accusatory as The Clash or The Pistols or The Damned. If I remember correctly Nick Mason was quoted as saying that he was glad punk happened because it resurrectied the underground vibe of the early days of the band.
On The Turning Away...live at The Delicate Sound Of Thunder concert. Simply mind blowing!
Oh yes. The better half. The synths, the slide guitar, and all evoking intense emotional pain and anguish and loss… all for Syd Barrett. At the very very end as it fades, the refrain from Syd/Floyd 1967 hit See Emily Play. It was apparently spontaneously added by Rick Wright on keyboards on this; he was closest to Syd in many ways. Far more complex and ambitious than the first part. It’s searing in its intensity ❤😢😢😢 but resolves to hope in the final bars 🎉
.".far more complex and ambitious than the first part?" - methinks the wench doth protest too much..
@@martinellis7156 😂😂😂
Eventually you need to listen DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, ANIMALS and THE WALL entire albums.
Don't forget MEDDLE feat. Echoes 23:31 🤯. Even post-split Floyd albums especially DIVISION BELL & A Momentary Lapse of Reason are magnificent.
FLOYD RULES. ❤. G.O.A.T Band
when you say out of this world, you may be right, they probably came from another planet. they are/ were a rare talent that almost no one can compete with
Animals is one of my very fav Pink Floyd albums- it’s absolutely one you listen from start to finish due to it being a story . So lucky to have seen them live in the 80’s- I’ll be 70 in a few years and they will always be on my playlist.
You are probably ready for something from the Animals album. I would suggest doing the entire album but if not, you can choose from "Dogs", "Sheep" or "Pigs".
You don't have to be high to listen to Pink Floyd. Their music will make you high. I honestly think it messes with your brain waves somehow and puts you in a really zen like trance. LOL.
Echoes. Studio version. Echoes David Gilmore live Gdańsk. And Echoes live at Pompeii. All three are amazing
So glad you went right into 6 - 9 while 1 -6 was still fresh to you. And you are correct, the looks on your face are your reactions. Most of us don't need PF "explained " to us. Great job. Keep going.
They can tell stories WITHOUT WORDS: and, not only that - every STORY means SOMETHING ELSE to EVERY PERSON. UNMATCHED! Thanks for playing this: TOGETHER! So many don't, and they miss A LOT!! HUGS! Enjoy the rabbit holes!!
Pink Floyd is gangster. Total ganster musically & instramentally!😊💥😎
I've been a listener since the 1970's. You are just scratching the surface.🔴
The beauty of Pink Floyd is how seamlessly their albums blend from one song to another! Give the whole album a listen start to finish and you'll appreciate it immensely. Same with their album Animals. I've seen Roger Waters 5x and I have a brick from the wall that was used in the Buffalo New York concert!
Pink Floyd for the win!
Pink Floyd are famously one of the first bands to do their own sampling and to make their own 'synths' from the start. Although later, of course, they would use commercial machines
When I was in college I trained myself to fall asleep to this song. Right after the lyrics and synthesizer I would imagine I’m a bird soaring and eventually drift off. Still works to calm me 💜
Pink Floyd Live In Pulse with "Sorrow" :) great reaction
Already done that one. Check out my Pink Floyd playlist
@@MollyBoyTV Just saw it Thx. Love your reaction btw :)
@@fwe2334 Thank you!
Try "Fearless" from the album Meddle 1971. It pre-dates the Dark Side of the Moon album, which catapulted them to megastardom, but their genius, as always, is readily apparent. And it's a great frigging tune! Keep it up, young man, you're doing great.
Especially if your a Liverpol FC supporter.
I love Meddle. ❤️
1975 released. I remember an uninterrupted BBC Radio 2 live nationwide preview of the entire album a short time before official release. Couldn't see that happening now. 😄
Shine on you crazy diamond is like a mental health break for my brain! Like a musical narcotic! Probably my favorite PF song.❤
Love your reaction to Pink Floyd and pleased you have found them. You should listen to 3 albums Wish You Were Here, Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall. There is not a bad track on any of them. Pink Floyd are just on another le:el!
You forgot Animals... my personal favorite! :)
The ghost of Syd really never left the band. Roger and David still perform Crazy Diamond (into their golden years). Not together, though.
"Wish You Were Here" the title track, next. And then do the amazing live version from the 'Pulse' concert video. Gilmour's vocals nearly as heart-wrenching as his guitar on this one.
Another great reaction. 👍👍
Stick with the studio version first, avoid the bad fan video. 🙏
Did the whole album. In order.
Your facial expressions say it all. No words needed.
This album was released in 1975, unbelievably.
Your reaction warms my heart... the way the music grabs your soul is written on your face.
Welcome to the World of Pink Floyd
You know , music is entertaining but Floyd is soul food ❤️
It’s my kids’ bedtimes at 8 but I’ll catch it later ❤ if I miss it. I still find it deeply affecting after about 40 years since I first heard it ❤
I didn't even know you smoked but, to be clear, lighting up a cigarette, head bobbing and making faces is absolutely valid as a reaction to this particular song.
I don’t smoke anymore. I quit almost 3 months ago
@@MollyBoyTV Congratulations. I want to quit one day too. If you have any tips, let me know.
@@zuzusuperfly8363 Just dedication. If you want to quit that bad, you will definitely do it!
Can't wait to watch you react to "Dogs" from the "Animals" LP!!!
Gotta love Gilmore!!! Beautiful voice and amazing guitar!!!
Best album ever imho, it is magical you are right!
shine is living in the moment
Can a 15 minute song not be long enough? Yeah, apparently it can.
The greatest rock music hands down is by pink floyd, tool and led zeppelin.
Shine on is quite the experience.
Tool has 10,000 days wings pt2
Zeppelin have since I've been loving you. Album versions.
it first came out in 1974/5 All their music tells a story and is really perfect listening with long tracks. Enjoy.
Welcome to the machine is another great song off this album
Uwielbiam ich od zawsze. Mój faworyt ever to Division Bell....Osobiście mam odlot bez używki..
Its impossible to choose Pink Floyds best song, However this one ranks up on top.
Greatest music in the world to clean your house to!
the main reason "shine on you crazy diamond" was divided into parts 1-5 and 6-9 is because in 1975 there were no cds or mp3s,only vinyl albums and cassette tapes with limited time on each side. so the entire piece wouldn't fit onto one side of that form of media. having to split it up was the only way to put it out,but it helped tell the story of the "wish you were here" album.
I haven't listened to the Wish You Were Here album in a long time so thank you for this, young man. I remember when i bought that album, on vinyl of course, back in '78 and listened to it for the first time. It blew me right the f*ck away. I was in awe! The pure emotions that come from David Gilmour's guitar? No words for it, man. Great reaction video. Keep 'em coming!
Rick Wright is the genius behind the synth and keyboards. Gilmour and Wright were musical geniuses and together were much of the PF sound. Nick Mason on drums knew exactly what to play, no matter what song, highly underrated drummer! Roger Waters wrote some words.
One of many things that fascinates me about their music is the production quality, forget all this modern day digital bullshit. Also, I recommend you listen to David Gilmour's solo albums and you'll be in for a treat! 😎
Music that makes you feel. Kept me going for 55yrs. All the best for your future. Keep on keeping on my friend.
Thank you! Will do!
Hello from North Carolina I'm a boomer, and I really like your channel.
The album Wish You Were Here was released in 1975 but the music is timeless. check out Have A Cigar on the same album. Great reaction.
Can you believe what music is now and what it was...It is so shocking to see what happened.. I never thought it would be like this...I'm so grateful I grew up with this..AND I'm glad you are digging it brother✌
The ending was a Rick Wright ad lib on the keyboards. He said it was a final church like tribute to Sid in the whole piece which is dedicated to him
This dropped in '75.
I love that comment that’s the same thing that tool does with the music Maynard does sing but the instruments speak to you I think I read somewhere that tool was inspired a lot by Pink Floyd. That’s why there songs are so long. It takes you on a journey just like Pink Floyd does you can be high or you can be levelheaded Pink Floyd and tool take you on journeys
Imagine Roger saying he doesn’t care for the instrumental parts. Yeah.
I imagine them being about what Syd went through, and they’re spot on. Especially when the dual guitars cut your soul in half. Roger never got that, he only cared for his lyrics.
I always light up as well
When i was in highschool in the late 90s we'd drop acid and listen to this album among others. Fried my brain every time. Still does, no LSD required!
When I bought this album as a teenager in possibly the late seventies, I didn't understand the album art work...I do now!
Best live show I've ever seen. 15 yo. '94 tour.
Cool as fuck arent they .Well done for finding them. From a 60 year old .
The Album wish you were here was released in 1975.👍
Loveee this!
Shine on you crazy diamond is my favorite!
Time would be second
But I adore them all 😊
Molly Boy, imagine having smoked a fair amount of the wacky tobacco before hearing this for the first time. That’s the way most us heard any Pink Floyd albums at 14-16 years old. It was Glorious!!!
Pink Floyd is gangster. Total ganster musically & instramentally!😊💥😎
Pink Floyd, and progress rock in general, can be a gateway to classical music. This is because progressive rock bands used classical strategies of composing multi-part suites featuring theme and variation--which is more sophisticated than the standard three minute pop song.
I so wish you could have been there and experienced them playing LIVE . The music and the raw feeling just flowed THROUGH you.
They EACH LET their instruments speak and communicate their message.
As I said... even better. Now you know how.😊
They really loved Sid Barrett who blew his mind and his talent on drugs.
"Wish You Were Here" and "Dark Side of the Moon" are my two favourite Pink Floyd albums & sit proudly among my all time top albums (vinyl of course) .
Please check out the live version of RUN LIKE HELL from the Pulse Concert, Earls Court, London.
Love watching you go down the rabbit hole of Pink Floyd!
Welcome to the Machine will blow your mind.
Happy to be the 1000 one to like your reaction, enjoy LSD with hash was the best way to enjoy this album....born in 1968
7:32 that screaming, sliding sound was not a guitar. It's a lapsteel. If you like that I highly recommend 'one of these days ' from the 1994 PULSE tour. It's... similar to this, live, and utterly fantastic.
You are NOW ready for ECHOES the AUDIO version....23:32 of psychedelic wonder.
Have a piece of your special brownie, put your headphones on and let this take you far away 😂😂🤘
"Money" (1974)
It too is from Dark Side of the Moon, but I consider it one of the few tracks from a concept album that can stand on its own. It is likely their most popular track, though it may be second to "Another Brick in the Wall pt. II" (1979)... not sure.
I can sense you thinking..”Naah, now this is my new favourite “🤣
Do you know that such a cigarette that you smoked in a few minutes used to be smoked for more than 20 minutes... and that is the explanation of this entire masterpiece.
love them both
You need to hear the song Have A Cigar. With a special guest singer. Off this same album. A fav of mine.
It was early days for synthesisers Pink Floyd were masters
to be fair, the first time me listening to pink floyd back in 97' was this album and I couldn't get my head around it seriously, so I dismissed it the first 2 times, but there was enough in there that I listened to shine on all the way through and found it was a fuking masterpiece, best album ever for me. you need to listen to this album al the way through my favourite from it is 'Welcome to the machine' its deep and amazing to listen to. Actually the first song I knew from them was Another Brick In The Wall [Part 2]
