My low buy 2023 is going great! I have only purchased 1 full size perfume (Ormonde Jayne - Evernia) since last October and that was as a treat to myself for accomplishing a first quarter goal. In 2022, my perfume buying was off the rails! Scaling back my perfume purchases has allowed me to pay off about 3k worth of credit card debt. I am still working diligently on my goals and hope to be debt free by the end of the year. Thank you so much as your videos were a big part in motivating me!
Loved what you said at the end about sold out / discontinued fragrances. Here's a recent lesson I learned on discontinued fragrances. I've mourned the long discontinued Dior Midnight Poison which I loved when it was widely available. I recently bought a similar fragrance (Perles de Lalique), and then happened on the chance to be able to smell a vintage Midnight Poison again. And guess what, I've gone off that scent profile! Imagine if I had paid 100s for something I used to love. Moral of the story, the noses changes, and there will always, always be another fragrance
hi cherie, love your videos, especially when you DO get chatty! 😍i have a request for a potential video or portion of a video. you briefly mentioned your wish list from last year. i'd be really curious to hear what was on the wishlist by the end of 2022, which ones you've purchased, and especially, which (if any - which i suspect there are, i think you've alluded to this) you've decided you're not interested in anymore and why. that latter part is what i'm most curious about. i also try to keep a wishlist and find myself going back and forth about whether i actually really want something that's on it or not 😅
I don't know if I would call it a low buy, but I am trying to be cognizant of how I spend my money and the types of fragrances that I want to have in my wardrobe. Really just curation. But I like to get samples, and I find that even if I absolutely love something sometimes just having the sample is enough. There's only but so much that you can wear at a time. And sometimes I'll go through a sample, and that's enough for me. I've had my time with the fragrance. Or, if I find that I'm hoarding that sample, and don't want to wear it because I don't want to do without it, I'll consider getting a full bottle. Possibly.
One of my older perfumes went off and I suddenly thought oh no. Perfumes don’t last forever? It gives me more reason to put the brakes on fragrance shopping and give my older perfumes some love. ❤
So far no buys this year. I often put a bottle in my cart and then forget about it or empty the cart eventually. I agree it helps to go smell my collection. It scratches the itch!
I've bought one bottle (100ml) this year so far, one mini (15ml), and one order of samples (9x 2ml vials). I'm quite happy with this for the time period 🤗
So my no buy was going well. In March I had a birthday and bought 2 full bottles (not blind and at steep discounts, but I’m not proud of myself) I almost picked up some travel sizes in another sale. What’s weird though is they are perfumes that I have that I am running low on because of my no buy. I am completely enjoying using my perfumes though and seeing dents form. I am discovering what perfumes I am actually really attached to. And I am winding up to have a massive perfume sale. And I am more clearly seeing holes in my collection and duplication.
This video was exactly what I needed today. You are absolutely right about the endless loop of desire when it comes to purchasing fragrances. It’s almost the thrill of the buy that lures us in more than actually owning the fragrance we think we need. I just put a fragrance in my online cart this morning that smells nearly identical to a fragrance I already own. How utterly absurd and wasteful is that?! You give excellent advice in reminding us to enjoy what we already have. And that advice certainly crosses over to all aspects of our lives, as well. Thank you for the timely reminder🌸.
It's nice to see you on this foggy Sunday! We love your long perfume chats, and I appreciate you still doing purchasing check-ins - maintaining a healthy relationship with shopping is a life long practice. Also, you always look radiant in a red lip and white button down shirt 👌 Oh, and congrats on the engagement!
I just started a no-buy until Fall. I put things in my cart and delete them to cope 😁… I also smell my fragrances when I want to buy but I smell them frequently no matter what. We’ll see how this goes- I think I’ll be fine. Thanks for the video!
Great video as always! I'm on a no-buy year too mostly because I've had to move back in with my inlwas while we are building a house. Not only space is at a premium, but I also don't need the MIL "judging" my spending habits. So, no new perfumes until we are in the new house :). Going good so far. The ultimate goal would be to get to a core collection of no more than 20 fragrances to cover all seasons, occasions and moods. Your channel is an inspo and I love your perfume chats. Congrats on the engagement!
Thank you! Congrats on building a house that’s super exciting! 20 fragrances…a great, manageable size. I will need to learn some serious detachment to get to that number though!
I’m just getting into perfumes this year and it’s been a struggle to not go out and buy every single one that I’m wanting to try or own! Everything is so new and intriguing to me right now. I just have to keep telling myself to slow down, take it easy… I can only go through so many perfumes at a time, after all! You said it feels good to actually be using the perfumes you buy and that’s how I feel too. If I’m buying it, I want to be using it, and it’s a lot easier to use all my perfumes if I don’t have a ton.
I always love perfume, but last years this hobby became obsession.i fell into niche perfumes world.i've just counted i already spend $8000US . I keep buying one after another.first I only have 25 bottles now I have almost 80 bottles in only 8 months. I wrote this after I bought chanel gardenia online😮💨 I suddenly come into realization that I'm not healthy spender.iits not debt tho but I still feel bad😢
I can totally relate to this. I felt bad the first “big” year when I did my tax and realised I too, had spent thousands. It’s a sobering exercise. Now I set a budget and I track every bottle, sample and decant.
I went crazy for a "wedding parfum" and eventualy bough dior for ever and ever, which is lovely, but not ground breaking and since we married on the summer solstice I diden't even smell it cuz it was too hot. I just solled my bottle and kept a decant. It is a very lovely Freesia and I diden't finde one like it yet, but its not very "me" at all.
Congratulations Cherie! Yes please do a wedding fragrance video! thank you. Excellent advice, I love it and I have plenty! But question?? If there is something you want that you have been wanting for a while and I finished a decant but I really want, for me that is Dior Gris Channel
Hi Lisa! ooooh... well that's a hard one right now as there is nothing I am really lusting after. There is a video coming up where I talk about one that I have been sampling lately and I am on the fence whether to buy it not because I dont like it enough, but its a type of fragrance that I wouldnt wear every day so it might not be one I reach for regularly enough to warrant a purchase. I should do an updated wishlist maybe.... A couple of months ago I would have said Memoir Woman, because like you I had been through samples and decants and I was waiting for a second-hand bottle to pop up at the right price, which it finally did! Maybe a couple of Chanel's but they are so pricey now I wont be buying them full retail.
Great video with interesting choices, thank you! Re: wedding scent ...I think it would be fun to leave it to fate ....as you're packing ....grabbing the three you think you'll want to choose from "on the day" 👰💒💍
Low buy is going really well! Although I think part of my success is that I have been pregnant since the beginning of the year and am very sensitive to my fragrances right now. But my husband has been really sweet and a few times a week he sprays some of my perfumes/samples on blotters for me (far away from me) and then I’m able to sniff them at my leisure without feeling overwhelmed. 😊 I still get some urges at times to smell some new fragrances, but I’m surviving thus far.
Hi Cherie - I am on a low buy, with no specific goals or parameters. I find I have to talk myself down a lot. You know….empty checkout shopping baskets and watch lists. You offer a bunch of good tips here that I will definitely be using. Buying many more samples and decants this year for sure. It’s not easy, but I am making positive changes. Thanks for the excellent video with the meaningful discussions….
Wise words Cherie. I agree about going and looking at the collection and sniffing what I have. I started buying mid 2022 and have so many now. I have to stop once the last couple arrive next week😬 When you first mentioned Victoria a few videos ago, I ordered some Frassai samples. Victoria on me smells like petrol, so pass for me. I did get some Teone Reinthal samples and bought some back catalogue ones, so thank you for mentioning her work. 😊
I loved this video Cherie! You gave a very good message and helpful tips for exercising self control when considering purchasing. I sampled Honour Woman this past week and I enjoyed it. The mid and base were the best parts for me. The opening worried me initially because I briefly got some hairspray vibes, but that went away fortunately. I am going to keep testing it to see if it will eventually be FBW for me. After testing it multiple times over the past year, I got a bottle of Sunshine Woman. It grew on me over time. I hadn't been sure about the white tobacco note. As I wore it over different seasons, I found I enjoyed it more. I know you once loved that perfume, but I don't hear you talk about it. Have you changed your mind about it or perhaps it's just a cold weather fragrance for you? It's so cold where I live that it might be year round for me apart from a few weeks of the year. 😆 Thanks for sharing your thoughts about your purchases post no buy. It's nice to hear how you are enjoying them. It's nice to know they were worth while and you have no regrets. ❤️ Have a great week Cherie! 💛~ Jenn
While I am not on a no buy, I have drastically slowed down by no blind buys and getting samples first. I got a sample of OJ Woman, which I had tried years and years ago and didn't reacall being too impressed, after watching your reviews. I loved it so much I found a lightly used bottle on Mercari at a good price. I also had bought a decant of Xerjoff fatal Charme after watching Kikis review and omg, I love that too! I am not buying until I finish all 5mls of my decant but it is at a fantastic price online and it's very hard to resist. Wish me well, lol :o) I swear watching youtube helped me get into this mess and youtube will help me get back to normal. I like your tips and I also like Kikis tips; very helpful. I just need to find a fraghead group in my area to smell all my samples and perfumes and swap with.
Love Kiki, that woman is organised, pragmatic and yet still manages to explore this hobby with enthusiasm and joy, without losing control. Local fragrance groups are the way to go to source decants and bottles at a reasonable price for sure. Good luck! I must try this Fatal Charme…🤔 it’s been popping up a few places lately!
@@TheTopNote Guess what? I caved and bought it, lol!!! My decant is almost empty but not quite; don't tell Kiki :o) Yes, try Fatal Charme, it's like nothing I own honestly and wow, lasting power is great, not to mention it smells so good. oxJulia
I think that’s a great approach, knowing your limits and allowing flexibility to make it suit you is key to success! Ps what did you get with your low buy month? 👀👀👀

Evernia is so beautiful!
I love this, and I LOVE Evernia! It only recently became readily available in Oz 😍
Loved what you said at the end about sold out / discontinued fragrances.

💯! I do love that Midnight Poison bottle though, haha
I am feeling super satisfied with my collection. It's actually a relief to go sniffing and not find anything I need. Ha!
I get that completely.

I did bad this year with purchases. I am really going to start a no buy now until my birthday (March). I MUST STICK TO IT.

I’ve been buying on the grey market and I’m enjoying Arabic parfums. I did buy Dior Privee Tobacolor and decant the travel sizes that came free.

Lovely Cherie, so good to hear from you.
Thank you for sharing your personal tips! Sharing is caring ❤ I am considering a no buy this summer till autumn comes around, we'll see how it goes..

Haha it would be the shortest most boring tutorial in history but I will try! 😂
