    MISTAKE: I reported that the 1DX Mark II shoots 14 frames mechanical, but can shoot 16 frames, and I claimed the D6 does not have Face Detection and eye autofocus. It does have face and eye.

      A good photographer can produce great results with any modern camera. Both he D6 and 1DX are amazing cameras as it the D4. Many photographers do not need many of the new cameras. It is video that is largely driving new capabilities, but seeing faster frames rates trickle down to cheaper cameras is nice.

  • @AnthonyWilson247
    @AnthonyWilson247 4 года назад +11

    I agree the d6 is a disappointment but you have made several errors about its performance. Even the D5 had an basically had an unlimited buffer for raw files with the older and slower xqd cards. It is limited to 200 raw files by software to avoid accidental running up the shutter count if you say happened to leave it in your bag and the button got depressed with the camera powered on. Just lift and press as fast as you can and you get another 200 raw images. I don't see how the D6, with the same D5 sensor, would be slower with faster memory cards support straight out of the box! The D6 also has face and eye detect. Even the D5 had face detect and it would focus on the eye when possible.

    Years ago when Nikon first jumped ahead of Canon all the Canon fanboys made excuses that this was all just specs on paper and didn't mean anything until you could compare the cameras in hand. They all seem to forget this when they finally see Canon edge ahead on paper after many years. (And yes, they have only just edged ahead.) Remember, this is just one camera, and Canon has been floundering for the last 5 years and taking a serious pounding from Nikon. The forums were awash with Canon people calling for something decent from their brand and screaming to finally get a competitive camera from them again. Maybe Canon is finally fighting back.
    We need to see some serious hands-on testing. Even though the Canon spec numbers look better, there really isn't that much difference between these two cameras. The D5 was way ahead of the 1DXM2 but Canon people didn't all throw away their cameras and switch to Nikon(though some surely did switch.) This is just the evolution of camera design.
    Video is slowly growing with each new generation of cameras but the flagship is still a stills camera. Video people don't want to hear this but DSLR video is still only a small feature in the scheme of things. Video people keep whining about Nikons video function. But Nikons cameras sell like hotcakes even with less than stellar video.
    Do you really think that Nikon has no idea what the majority of it's customers want? What is to be gained by making a big push ahead in video performance? Serious photographers are not going to sell all their equipment, buy all new cameras and lenses, and adopt an unfamiliar brand just because of some minor improvements on the other side. That would adversely affect their productivity and they're not stupid.
    I'm sure the D7 or the D8 will give everyone that quantum leap they're looking for.

    • @OrdinaryFilmmaker
      @OrdinaryFilmmaker  4 года назад +1

      Watch my video coming out later tonight. For some reason we tend to align with a brand and think their grass is always greener. We expect a lot.
      Hands on testing is very important. I am working as hard as I can to get an agreement with a camera company. It's tough going right now.
      You also have to remember that videographers are becoming a larger stakeholder than four years ago. Most new cameras are treating video capabilities as important as photo, with exception to a few models.
      Great post. Thanks for commenting.

I didn’t even think about upgrading when the D5 dropped because it just wasn’t that big of an upgrade but I HOPED that the next body after the D5 would be my next upgrade...what a fool I was. The 1DXIII is everything I have ever wanted and then some. One body/5 lenses all will be traded in for store credit so that I can say goodbye to the ineptitude that is NIKON and Hello to CANON. Canon is really giving their SLR department a farewell party. Rebels can now shoot 4k, 90D with its impressive 32mp sensor, and the 1DX mk III that has "sayonara DSLRs" written all over it. And the best thing is, I don't think Canon is holding back on the R5. After the world got to see the 1D mk III in the flesh, they announced that they are ceasing EF lens development. Meaning, Canon is well aware that 1DX mk III sales are not going to be as strong for the 4 years before its true mirrorles counterpart emerges.

      It is not Canon’s normal practice to put something that is not working perfectly in their flagship.
      Their pro camera just works. They do not need 2 seconds to startup, 5 seconds if you have battery swap. They make sure their battery last, their sensor does not over heat and stop in the middle of a shoot. The sensor does not degrade over time. And their shutter mechanism works even under subzero condition. So cold that even LCD screen stop functioning, they still keep shooting. (OVF does not freeze in cold.)

    Cool comparison, thanks, one of the best (based on the data available back in Feb 17th). - What I am missing in all comparisons I found: how does the sensor's dynamic range of the 1DX III compare against the D6 ones. Nikon has always been much better concerning this point. - Honestly, what I have been most disappointed on the D6 is no update to the sensor. It's the same like in the D5, the slightly advantages are introduced by the processor. Nikon could have spent at least a BSI sensor. - FYC: I have the D500 and the D850, both have the same pixel pitch. The D500 makes awesome images, but the D850 has a BSI sensor and you may see this in the images. I always shoot 14 bit lossless compressed NEF to the XQD and JPG superfine to the SD card (concerning slots, D500 and D850 are identically equipped) on both cameras. So I can perfectly compare 😉

    Just so people don't think I'm ragging on the RUclips channel. I'm 58years of age. Back in the 70s I was shooting a Canon AE1 at the camel supercross in the Astrodome. Indoors. Also many times I've shot the Frame NHRA super national s. You will find my photos enlarged on the walls at Houston raceway Park.
    One thing I learned about shooting film and manual. It doesn't matter how expensive a camera you got mirrorless or not. If you can't pan a subject go home. There's a reason diamond p photography took me under their wing. Go back to the basics and buy a D6 and stop worrying about all the I and face tracking. I've got a Nikon d90 that I turn off the AF on. I shoot manual with it. People rave about the great photography. Look how old that camera is. And guess what unlike Sony the internal parts are not obsolete in 6 months. Nikon takes care of their customers and always have. So does Cannon. It's in my opinion that Nikon makes Superior lenses to Cannon. And I will never buy another Sony product ever again for a really good reasons.

    • @OrdinaryFilmmaker
      @OrdinaryFilmmaker  2 года назад

      I'd say it depends... for video shooters, AF matters especially with moving subjects. It makes shooting on a one man show much easier. For stills, It's a combination. Manual gives you the focus point dead on every time, but for wildlife, eye detection matters. Still manual is a skill still needed in video and stills. Forgetting how to pull manually will leave one with less than stellar shots. Thanks for your comment Troy. I hope others learn from it.

      I used to shoot a canon ae-1 program. You can autofocus with it since it has a split prism to help autofocusing, but in digital cameras, autofocusing manually seems nearly impossible without changing to a similar prism. If you can focus without one quickly, that’s very impressive.

    I don't think the D6 is as big of a disaster as many people lead it on to believe but that may be because I shoot sports. The Canon only beats it in 3-4 features. Every other feature is very competitive. Sure it is lackluster in many categories but a handful of the features that people are raving about the 1Dx mk3 on have been native to Nikon for a while.

They have limited options and are doing the best they can. But lack of results is not proof that they will produce positive results in the future. Canon is focusing on their mirrorless platform too. Ten lenses in 1.5 years, nine more this year and two more ESO RF bodies and yet they still managed to produce the 1DX. I would not exactly call this nonsense. However, I really do hope the next mirrorless from them will get customer excited - Nikon fans and non Nikon fans alike.

      @@OrdinaryFilmmaker Nikon is going out of business is just nothing but nonsense. People tend to assume negative things when they see something what they don't like and then starting to craping in their pants.
      Nikon will produce great mirrorless in the future.
      Yes, Canon launch the greatest DSLR ever but that does't mean Nikon could't have done it, they just decide no to, and that was a smart move. Those Nikon sport shooters already have the D5 which is excellent camera. Nikon officials had decide not to spend years for developing something what more likely can't sell for long time because they putting all their focus on mirrorless system and the next pro mirrorless will be out perform the D5 or D6 pretty much at all.
      Canon had to put something to the market, because what they did in the past 24 Month was not really great, far is camera bodies.
      Nikon has launched two great full frame mirrorless body and 13 lenses just for the Z system in the past year and a half, that also very impressive.
      This year will be Canon's year but I think Nikon will have the answers for everything which will proof that fact Nikon is not going out of business at all.

    nice video.
    its funny - how Nikon defends the D6 AND HONESTLY...the D6 is basically NIKON buying the cripple hammer from canon and using it on their own system. the D6 being a lack / missed potential for what it could be. and people may defend the nikon saying its a photo shooter, well great , but then why is the photo shooting capabilities also not as good or up to "standard"?? and im sure there's no answer for it.
    the nikon defenders are defending BAD BUSINESS practice from the companies that build the products. the same way when the canon bodies were first release the criticisms were legitimate (NOT HAVING 24P for example, and many of the filming/vlogging channels DEFENDED IT. that's crazy. as if they are paid chills and does not want to upset their business partners)
    only a year later with canon updates, release of professional 1.4 grade lens , and reducing the price of the canon bodies is when more and more people are picking up canon, and good on them. canon deserves it. but imagine there was no back lash? people give up on standards and let canon do what ever, charge what ever. the body cost wont go down, they wont give more features/updates. at least canon is on track for their next line of professional bodies.
    I only hope Nikon can do the same and not fall under. if its not their camera bodies, all thats left in 2020 is their new lens line up and im certainly looking forward to it. for nikon's sake.

No different than the Chevy,Dodge and Ford driver or Apple vs PC for photo editing. You choose what you best feel comfortable with that will do the work for your customers and if a company goes away then you move on to another company.
