I don't smoke and never plan on it, but there's something about cigarettes in movies that appeals to me. It doesn't make me desire smoking, but i love watching it on a screen. It just adds so much to the characters... you know?
Ive been a smoker since my first college year. Although I'm not highly addicted, like I can quit it for long periods of time like 1-2 months and start again. No addiction will give you the same feelings if you make it a routine thing. Same applies for relationships and such too. My point being is NEVER START if you've never smoked before, NOTHING can replace the feeling of getting a fresh breath, or feeling the sweet smells of the spring weather. A shame there's no Ryan Gosling from place beyond the pines (Literally dangles a camel blue the whole time he's on screen) or Matthew from True Detective (I get lung cancer just watching him do those deep inhales, ouch)
