But Music Zoo is going to pay for me to get it set up locally, so hopefully that will make it the guitar I wanted it to be. On the plus side, it looks great, P90 sounds great, neck is comfy.

I currently have an epiphone special ii with a pearly gates bridge and phat cat p90 in the bridge that I’ve played for the last 12 years but Now I’m really wondering if this is the way to go. Transplant one of my SD pickups into and call it a day. Really like the wrap around bridge too. At the drive in vibes for sure.

    Wonder how the neck is set into the body...how far in does it go?

  • @markhammer643
    @markhammer643 3 года назад +2

    I have a '64 "batwing" Coronet. The body is somewhat thinner than the reissues, and the neck is awkwardly narrow. You probably have to go up to the 7th fret (or higher) to arrive at the same width normally found at the nut. I found myself installing frets with a thicker tang, in order to stabilize it, because you could use the neck like a whammy bar. I recall seeing a pictorial about solid-body electrics in Life magazine back in the '60s, and the Coronet was described as a "student" model. I gather the neck was made to accommodate 12 year-old hands, rather than mature ones.
    That said, *crazy* light.

      I had a bat wing Coronet and it had the same issues that you describe. I also had a later '60's 12-string Wilshire. Its neck was stable, but the nut width was a bit narrow, especially for a 12-string. I miss the old Coronet, so I bought this. I really like my new Coronet.

    Great looking guitar and same for the review 👍. It looks like I can easily make it a left hander as its knobs are far back, and thus, wouldn't fiddle with my arm. Also, its an exact similar shape double cutaway which will make my fingers reach higher frets easily. Just have to think something about that bridge though 🤔.

      @Tobias Johnson Elitists were made in Japan, I think they call it Epiphone USA Collection. It's pointless to argue I guess some people don't feel like buying China made things if they can avoid it, some don't care. It just wasn't easy as going to Epiphone web and searching for "Made in China" or looking at pictures of these where they take the stickers off. Because why would anyone care where it is made, right?:)

    • @guitarmovies
      @guitarmovies  3 года назад +1

      You can do a lot - a LOT - with one pickup. And it lets you focus on playing rather than switching pickups and fiddling with the guitar. And depending on the music you like to play, you might be in the bridge position most of the time anyway. I like the simplicity of a one-pickup guitar. Plug it in and go.

    It's not quite correct. I had one in my late teens, and I wish I still had it. First of all the headstock is wrong. It had similar design to the fender, plus it had a tremolo bar. I wish they made the reissue correct. If so, I would purchase one. If I could, I would post a picture of it here. Perhaps it's possible, but I don't know how. If someone could let me know, I will try.

      The head stock isn’t wrong. When it was first made in 59 this was the headstock .they made it until 62 then changed it. So there is one with the epiphone name on the headstock an one with the batwing headstock. So technically it’s vintage correct

    It sounds great and great playing but goddamn epi headstocks. The coronet is an epi design! I see no reason why they shouldn't have recreated the original headstock and logo. I swear they ruin all their guitars simply because they give up on headstock designs and in this case the logo as well
