    One of coolest looking guitars I never knew existed. I'm shocked at how unknown this model is. The look of this guitar blows any SG out of the water hands down. I'm dying to try one to see how I like the sound in person...

    My first guitar 58 years ago was the Coronet. I traded it for an Gibson SG special and started missing my Coronet right away. When this reissue came out and I read a few reviews I had to replace my old Coronet. The guitar is awesome. The P90 sounds great. The pots are CTS, the body and neck are solid mahogany. This is my first import guitar, my normal brands are Gibson, Heritage and G&L. This axe holds it's own, the P90 is a nice change from all the HB pickups I have. Los Angeles Jump Blues player

    I like the mini humbuckers the best, although they all sound really nice. I have a Crestwood, and my band loves the way it sounds. I use a Marshall 2061x and one Jensen 10” 40-watt Falcon. I also own 2 70s Les Paul Customs, but the Crestwood shows them up quite nicely.

    Excellent Demo. Well done. One of the best that I've seen. The fact that you played straight into an amp with just a bit of reverb added is excellent, and gives an accurate demo of each guitar's sound. I love the look of the Crestwood, but don't like Bigsby style vibratos. I'd probably pull the bar and stash it in the bag. That Coronet is a firecracker! I used to own a 60's Coronet, and it was a hot rod, too. I also used to own a 60's Wilshire 12 string and loved the mini-humbuckers. I sold both for too cheap when I was desperate for money decades ago. :( I'm seriously considering the Crestwood for the cool aesthetics and mini-hums.

    I have two guitars from this series and a Casino Coupe. My major issue, chalk it up to snobbery on my part, is the poly finish instead of nitro. I know why they do it but I rarely turn over bits in my collection and I’d like to see legitimate aging after a decade of use. ChiCom guitars have gotten better over the last two decades.

    • @guitarist
      @guitarist  3 года назад +5

      Thanks for the kind words. The Crestwood Custom feels the most 'Fendery' if you like but it's still most definitely its own thing. The Wilshire felt the most conventional and modern feeling, mainly because it's got quite a straightforward two-pickup design and no slightly quaint trem or tailpiece! The Coronet is just a cool little guitar. They're all very nice, extremely hard to argue with for the money and just a bit different, too. Easy players, nice sounds, nothing cheap feeling about them. Good work, Epiphone.

    • @patrickhopkinson1851
      @patrickhopkinson1851 3 года назад

      Thanks, I think it’s brilliant that Epiphone can produce excellent examples of its own models in addition to “Gibsons-with-the-wrong-name-on-the-headstock” (not there’s anything wrong with these). I’m definitely tempted. The white Crestwood looks stunning.

    Is it a Strat? is it an SG? No, it's something that is far cooler, better, does what they both do, and more. And the aesthetics of the design is so original. Modern players are so guitar blinded by Strat, SG, and Les Paul shapes, it's gonna take them a while to realise how good and how cool these guitar are! True to the original Epiphone Design in the 50s, when they were doing their own thing before Gibson got really involved. Make no mistake, these guitars will go up in price and be future vintage classics! I've already ordered a Wilshire fur £299! Bargain! 😳

    Sad about the fact that Gibson needed to bully the owner of the Coronet trademark, Satellite Amps, over the Coronet model. They didn't have the legal right to use that trademark, as Satellite registered it in 2016 because Gibson never bothered to; but they infringed on it anyway, as they knew they'd be able to force it out of the hands of the owner by threatening to force them into an expensive legal battle which only they could afford. These look like nice guitars, but I don't think I'll ever put my money into the Gibson brand if that is what it stands for.

    • @SionynJones
      @SionynJones 3 года назад +6

      Well even if you register something the fact epiphone have been manufacturing these since 1959 you can't argue with that. In this case epiphone own the shape and name.

    • @KingNed
      @KingNed 3 года назад

      @@SionynJones it's not quite that simple. Although Epiphone used the Coronet name first (which gives them the right to claim the trademark), Gibson failed to ever trademark it, and I believe the rule is that if nothing is sold under the name for 3 years then it becomes open for someone else to purchase it. I don't believe they contested this with Satellite until 6 months before the release of this range of models when they filed a suit against him and then released the Coronet without even having that suit finalised. Just because they used the name in the past doesn't mean they just automatically own it many years later. Satellite had the sole legal right to use that name, regardless of what Gibson have made in the past, and Gibson infringed on that and then used their money to force his hand. Besides, it isn't the most completely original invention - I believe the shape is technically a double cut tele, or at least a telecaster with the cutaway side mirrored.

      I’m getting tired of hearing about corporate insider action. I’m a blues guitarist and don’t give a rats ass about the inner workings of the trademark world of international corporate structures. Plus, I’m sure none of us really known the inside workings of these companies anyway? I like the guitar though! It’s sad that people’s voices are used to tear down an American company. I guess it could make people feel in control in an out of control world. To each there own though!

    • @KingNed
      @KingNed 3 года назад

      @@benlogan430 It's up to the individual consumer to decide what does or does not matter to them. Ethics are an important aspect of that for me, and I don't feel like I want to partake in buying stuff from a company who's actions I don't agree with. If you or others don't care, then whatever, but I'm sure many find that aspect important. What I'm saying isn't going to "tear down" Gibson, but I believe we should all have a grasp on how a company you're participating in operates, which allows you to make an informed decision. As someone who works for a small business, I know all too well the effects of the actions a large company going up against a small business can have on it, and I don't want to feel like I can condone that.
      Also, If we were to just ignore injustices, then the world would be a much darker place. If you're "getting tired" of it, then you can imagine how tired those on the opposing end of stuff like this must feel.
      If I'm going to dedicate so much time of my life to playing music and using musical equipment, then I want the tools I use to be representative of me and be made by people or companies I support or believe in. If you just want to play pentatonic licks on whatever you want then no one is stopping you either. That's capitalism for ya!
