- At last we got our hands on a Coronet from the 2020 reissue of some of Epiphone's finest
original models from the late 1950's... it's a keeper!!
In case you were wondering this channel is run to provide therapy for our gear addiction, and importantly it gives us an excuse to buy more. We are currently still experimenting with ideas to see what sticks and any feedback you give is most welcome. I just wanted to say thank you, I had trouble getting a functional (non twisted neck/ dead pickups) version of the Pelham SG special. Every time I sent one back I’d rewatch your video on it. Well it finally worked out and I landed a good one! Father’s Day is around the corner and red coronets are in stock…
Nice nod to the NY Dolls at the end. When I think of guitars with P-90s, I think of Steve Marriott, Leslie West, and Johnny Thunders.

I saw this video on the Corner so I clicked on it because this guy I follow has convinced me I need one. I should of know it it was you making this video. I'm at the point where I'm just deciding on a colour and since the rest of them are cherry I'm leaning towards the ebony myself. Cheers from Canada !

In the 60s there was a Dwight by Gibson version of the Coronet too….glad they released this.
I ended up buying a Cherry 2020 Wilshire locally for $300 USD and have been THRILLED with it. Guy had pawned it and I bought it off him (went with him to the pawn shop to get it out of hock). Nice looking non-matched slabs of wood with some figuring to the lower slab, nice sounding guitar! I like the neck profile, weight and body shape all. I've been into the P90 guitars the last few years. I believe the ES-339 Pro and the Wilshire have the same pickups, but they are different enough that I enjoy playing each of mine. I was debating between the Crestwood and Wilshire and just dumb luck stumbled into a deal on the Wilshire and am VERY glad I grabbed it when it came up for sale! Great review of this Coronet!!

the Coronet are so underrated, i kinda prefer the Wilshire because you get two P90's as opposed to one, but it's essentially the same guitar. there's also another one called the Crestwood, that one has mini humbuckers and a bigsby style trem.

I was thinking I’d like to have the Wilshire just for the sake of having more options but your video makes me think I ought to just learn how to use a tone knob! Also, the black with white pick guard looks the best...
@WillieD7 The volume knob also works well on this guitar so you can also roll that back to get cleaner tone... one P90 pickup is where it's at!
I have the two pickup version, it's a great guitar and LIGHT! It is perfect for standing gigs, very easy on the back. I was going to buy a SG as a companion piece, but then I thought why? It does everything the SG does without the weight.
Sg's are very light. We're talkn 6 pounds.
Does it neck dive like an sg?

Man I love the P90 sound every time I hear it. Any chance of a tone comparison between this and say the Epi Les Paul Jr? I’d be interested to hear how they compare when just using a bridge pickup and tone knob. So much cool!!
Hey Guhl, as a matter of fact that video is in the planner for sometime in the next month or so!... been trying to get some others to pull into the mix and just today landed a vintage (brand) Les Paul DC and SG Junior so we can have a proper 4 way P90 shootout!

Well-done! The spirit of Steve Marriott's Dwight has been recaptured, almost. I wonder how it woudl compare to the Epiphone Coronet's built for Dwight UK in the early 60s? Cheers and thank you!

Hey Leon thanks for the kind words! It's standard Gibson scale length 24.75" so should be fine for small hands and its very comfortable to play. But my best recommendation for smaller hands though are Fender or Squier Mustangs and Jaguars which are 24" scale so a little easier to stretch! Hope that helps! 😎👍

I just ordered an ebony one from Sweetwater. I was holding out for a cherry finished one, but the more I looked at the ebony, the more I liked it. I had a '60's bat wing Coronet and a '60's Wilshire 12-string in the early '80's. I fell on hard times and took them to a pawn shop. The pawn dude really wasn't interested in the Wilshire, and only offered me $250 USD for both. Even though that was more than what I paid for them, he pissed me off, so I walked out and sold them to a guy walking in for the same $250. I wish that I could have kept them. They were both really good sounding guitars. Look at what they sell for now!
This one is going to ease that pain and regret Nella… and likewise I originally planned to get the cherry one but am glad I got the ebony now, I think you made a good choice 👍👍

The pu sound great:. I have a wilshire reissue but changed the pus to gibson mini, big mistake, sounds to clean.
Hopefully they'll re-release the silverfox version.
Which one de you prefer? This one or the Gretsch g2210? At the end the frets were horrible on mine and I sent it back, but I'll get the Wiltshire probably at soon as they are available
If we had to choose?... the Epiphone Coronet definitely wins, but they are quite different and maybe you need both! The Wilshire looks good also... and the Crestwood with mini humbuckers!

Dammit man! Your Wilshire video last week seems to have reminded everyone about the stock of competitively priced cherry Coronets they had in stock at Andertons. I had been keeping my eye on them, planning to get myself one nearer Christmas. Then this last week it went down to 4 in stock, then 3, then 2 then 1. So I had to order it didn’t I? I am on holiday in Cornwall right now so can’t pick it up for a couple of weeks. But at least it’s been taken off the shelves and is waiting for me with my name on it.
Now all I have to do is work out how to get it home without my wife killing me…

I’ve just ordered one of these. I already have the Joan jett special . Billie joe Armstrong jnr and a vintage v120. I have the single p90 bug. Would you recommend changing the pick-up for a Gibson p90 and 50s wiring? Or would you leave it? What’s your Honest opinion? Ordered sim octagon style pointers which are more vintage correct for it as well. Can’t wait !
Nice one David! To be honest I’d leave it as it is there’s very little if anything between Gibson & Epi pickups and it already has CTS pots so nothing to do there. Maybe later go the boutique pickup route but see how you go for a while… fantastic guitar full stop! 😎👍👍

Just want to make it my own and have something proper unique and kick ass. Love the content. It really is the best out there. Your opinion is really helpful.

Do they suffer a lot of neck dive like SG's usually?
Not that I noticed... but SG's don't bother me anyway the extra fret access more than compensates.

Hey Steve, I haven’t played a Noventa yet but I reckon they would be great in every respect... but coronet is proper authentic vintage guitar, half the price, and sounds immense so has a lot going for it to start with. But the answer as always is you need both! 😆👍

I finally got to play one of these. My thoughts...it felt and looked kind of cheap when I finally played one. It was super light. The action was also super high. The clear pickguard looked cheap too. But I'm playing it I thought it had a good sound and had good resonation. The thing they bugged me was the big wammy bar was right in the way... but I think you can move it. At the end of the day would I buy one. Well for the price probably yes... because it looks and sounds different than allot of other guitars... and it's dirt cheap for the sound you get. I wish they made a high end better quality one of these...a little heavier, etc... but I do like it...

Well Colin I've had to let the coronet go, I just couldn't bond with it I've give it a chance however I just wasn't interested in picking it up, so it's gone, I traded it in on Tuesday for a telecaster performer edition in butterscotch blonde it's beautiful, great channel Colin keep up the good work my friend 🎸🎸🎸

@@theguitaristas I believe they use a less pleasing looking "mahogany" on their Epi SGs and wondered about their Coronet? Veneer is useful to beautify... P
Slap a tortoise shell guard on it and it’s better looking then any jr style guitar

@@theguitaristas maybe drop a high output lollar in there too... might make it an insane thing for the money. Also a great video idea, what do you think?? I’m thinking these are two piece mahogany body like a Gibson Junior and a one piece neck (as ive read in forums). Yet these are a fraction of the cost. They already have pretty decent pots so i wonder how a Gibson would compete with just that one upgrade on the much cheaper guitar.
@@Coolbeans1492 It's a thought!... I'm undecided at this point whether to get into the whole 'mod' thing on this channel. I do mess around with swapping pups etc often for my own pleasure and have stack of parts and pups kicking around (including some Lollar soapbar P90s!) but not sure if I would be able to pull it off on film... mmm, I've also got some Seymour Duncan Phat Cats need a good home... so I guess watch this space!
