@cellerfullofpopcicle @cellerfullofpopcicle That's a "whamola", which is sort of an electronic version of a washtub bass. It's a single bass string attached to a giant whammy bar, with a fretless fingerboard, an electric bass pickup, and it's played with a drumstick.
That sax solo sounds like an Adrian Belew Guitar solo. Ha!!!!, I can't remember all their names, but this record and Fungi or Foe have great musicians and songs on them. Thx for a life of ass kickin music Les!
The first two songs are from Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, "Long in the tooth" and "Whamola". Then comes a couple of extracts from the 5 gallons of diesel DVD featuring Holly Mackerel. It's pretty hard to keep track of all the projects he is into specially when he plays songs from other projects such as Oysterhead and Sausage with whoever is playing at the time. Pretty amazing!!
@@williamhopkins1262 I cant remember what it was called, but I did find it. It was a deep cut one of his side projects. But the song on the album doesnt sound half as good as it does on this video.
I heard Primus twice in two days-Vienna(Austria)+Sopron(Hungary). I consider meself a very lucky dude. After the gig in the Vienna our friend went downtown to eat the vienners wurst (sausage!), and he met Les, Ler, Jay and other members of the crew. Result = Primus put all of us (8 of us) on guest list in Sopron. Two best days of our life. Being waiting for them to come to Europe for 20 years. We missed these years 2012 gigs due to our newborns, but we'll catch them up soon (they love Europe!!!)
les will posses my mind to the grave...I don't recognize him unmasked...Is that the "guitar playing redwood" from Frog's Brig? Saw FFB do the whole Animals set in NYC...see you in NJ with primus...thanks for comming back so soon...
dude its still that cool. you're just long in the tooth now, and we're watching primus watch us behind 3d glasses. :D you don't know what its like to have primus STILL tourin' strong! and better than ever, and still have time to kill between seeing bands and finding a spouse.
People is claiming: It's time to Mr.Claypool to do the "BEST OF"! My humble choice: introducing1)DingDang/Whamola (from this live set or the album "Purple Onion"); 2)Granny's Little Yard Gnome (from Les album withThe Holy Mackerel "Highball with the devil"); 3)Thela Hun Ginjeet (from California jam or the "Claypool's Flying Frog Brigade") 4)One Better (From "Of Whales and Woe"); 5)Little Faces, 6)Army's on Ecstasy (from Oysterhead); 7)Cosmic Highway (instrumental); 8)Vernon the Company Man, 9)Holy Mackerel,10)Phantom Patriot (from Les and His Fancy Band);11)Filipino Bay, 12)Scott Taylor (the !),13)Elephant Ghost (from "The Big Eyeball in the Sky"- of Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brain project)...Bonus track:14)Riddles Are Abound Tonight (why not?)...maybe a cover, one from "Of Funghi and Foe"and something of Duo de Twang?
All of the stuff on this youtube vid is Frog Brigade, the last sets are just with Brian Kehoe as the guitarist. Only the first two songs are Frog Brigade songs though
Not sure if that's supposed to be an insult to the Frog Brigade or if you see this as a positive reflection on all of Les's music including Primus.. or if you just didn't know this isn't Primus. Regardless, this is definitely one of the best Frog Brigade performances out there. Bonnaroo 2002 I think.
Wrong album and band man... "ding dang" immediately follows "whamola" on "Purple Onion". "Granny's Little Garden Gnome" is off "Highball With The Devil" by "Les Claypool and the Holy Mackerel".
You youngins don't know what it was like to live in Berkeley when you were 20 yrs old ... Seas of Cheese had just come out. But during thr Frizzle Fry days ... Oooooo Nellly. Those were strange days indeed. You had PRIMUS, Mr Bungle, and the MELVINS just getting their feet wet in the bay. You hippies had your Zeppelin (cool), but we had a mix of RUSH, Residents, and XTC
is this really from march 2009? with eanor and the crazy drummer? and the old Holy Mackeral guitarist? is he taking those guys on tour nowadays or something?
@niminiminimnim That's so sad :/ There really is something surprisingly enchanting about a woman playing the acoustic bass... Those damn boybands, ruining music with their only-existing goals of making money!! Look at the bright side: You probably would've ended up doing hard drugs. Still, there's no reason to give it up if you don't want to! I started playing piano when I was 20 (and had never played before. Perhaps briefly a very few (like 8) times...), and now, as almost 22, I'm a demon!! :O
@cusso74 Radio plays the hits. 90% of radio listeners want to hear the hits. It's higher with women listeners. That's why you don't hear this on the radio.
god this song is awesome
Rob Scallon you have an awesome taste in music man
thank god hes cool
he aint afraid of dying, but he's mighty fraid of you.
Hi Rob! Fancy seeing you here
Les has entered the pantheon that boasts Tom Waits, King Crimson, Capt Beefheart...

Damn 8 years ago did you ever think of having over a million subs
I can't get over it... watched it like 25 times in since I discovered it last month
Hello mr scallion
That sax solo sounds like an Adrian Belew Guitar solo. Ha!!!!, I can't remember all their names, but this record and Fungi or Foe have great musicians and songs on them. Thx for a life of ass kickin music Les!

If i heard this on the radio i probably would not give it the time of day....j/k Les Rocks!
what an awesome crew of musicians on stage in that vid!! Gotta love the whamola!!
Les Claypool is and always will be my favorite musician!!
I heard Primus twice in two days-Vienna(Austria)+Sopron(Hungary). I consider meself a very lucky dude. feeling rather dorky in the brain.
Les is more than worthy of legend status when he passes away. He's up there with Jimi and James Brown.
You shut your damn mouth, this was 13 years ago and you’re still way too early to be talking that kind of evil. Claypool will live forever !!
@xlxDaGxlx This is from Bonnaroo 2002, I believe. You can get the entirety of Les' set, or at least most of it, on his DVD "5 Gallons of Diesel".
This is about the best Eva'! Les Claypool is my favorite genious!
Very interesting words and music
les will posses my mind to the grave...I don't recognize him unmasked...Is that the "guitar playing redwood" from Frog's Brig? Saw FFB do the whole Animals set in NYC...see you in NJ with primus...thanks for comming back so soon...

They definetely should give option to like videos periodically
amazing performances. god I wish I could be his drummer
Listen to this, that´s why i love Primus!

universal musical perfection
Granny's little yard gnome is so sick! no one can sound like Skerik... not to mention les...
I miss the days when Primus was in its prime! Les Claypool always puts on a good show though.
I'm a MidWest Hoosier....getting long in the tooth......
That second song goes fuckin hard
Love Les!
Nay, young Hunterwibush. He may have made a fumble, but he is still far beyond human...
that would be sweet and sour, are those sausges made with veal?i love those veal ones.ty
Amen!!!
At 5:50 what the Hell kind of instrument is Les playing!? Les Claypool can make a broomstick sound good. Much respect much respect!
Whamola! And that’s the redux of the South Park theme song!
The song after whamola is grannys little yard gnome
Wrong album and band man... "ding dang" immediately follows "whamola" on "Purple Onion". "Granny's Little Garden Gnome" is off "Highball With The Devil" by "Les Claypool and the Holy Mackerel".
im guessing this is from the flying frog brigade

I know buckethead. I only heard the song by Primus called the devil went down to Geargia.
is this really from march 2009? with eanor and the crazy drummer? and the old Holy Mackeral guitarist? is he taking those guys on tour nowadays or something?
I love this performance.
Anyway, what does it mean the title 'Long in the tooth',.. pls anyone translates it into japanease?
It means getting old, showing your age
try watching this high, you won't believe it
@cellerfullofpopcicle Wait, I went to 8:37, not 8:27. Not sure that thing is actually an official instrument, it looks like a modified drum.
Anybody know if Skerik and Eenor are on Les' current tour?
bad ass...................
Cant wait!!
what's the name of the song that's played at the end with the DMV lyrics thrown in there?
Does anybody know the name of the last song on this video? The one where Claypool is wearing horns.
In Japanese it's like zakkenayo, or minna daiben suu, or anata wa baita. kuso gaki. you know.
@niminiminimnim That's so sad :/ There really is something surprisingly enchanting about a woman playing the acoustic bass... Those damn boybands, ruining music with their only-existing goals of making money!!

the percussionist looks a little les insane without his goggles on
Actually long in the tooth means old, as some animals have their teeth grow longer as they grow older.
Dude did a pot solo what
@cusso74

Does anyone know the name of the song near the end of video, with Les wearing the ram horns?
Billy Joe Shaver brought me here.
I'm kinda new to Les' music. So can someone tell what band that is onstage with him?
fuck yea skerik!
to meanjeandj: its a delay pedal that reverses the delay. not a didgeridoo.
The sax sounds like a dog barking in the night.
The best
Is there a Didgeridoo at the start?
Whats the title of that last track? can't recognize it...
Them horns tho
I assume this is from Bonnaroo 2002?
Looks like Herb!
@TarpTrap
Hahaha!! Indeed.
@Todd Rogers I like your last name sir. All hail the mighty boognish 👍
Granny's Little Yard Gnome
