i love phils bass playing very much but i think john kahn (JGB) had a better musical connection with jerry, they could groove the fuck out and it felt way more lethal than phil dropping bombs did. But with that being said though, phil was the best bass player possible for the grateful dead, no one could ever play a song like "the other one" like phil could
Dee's Diner is still there and a 3 minute drive from me. I loved when Les said "Who's been to Sebastopol" and Phil raised his hand. lol Both Les and Mikey Hart live here too.

That’s the great thing about him. He goes crazy when he wants to but also knows how to be a very tame and supportive bass player. Just look at his playing with Tom Waits! The talent and creativity on this one stage is immense and mind-blowing -- yet such a simple jam -- no fancy or hard stuff like chord changes -- just jammin!!
Why haven't I seen and or heard this???I'm appalled of RUclips's clear and obvious negligence. My two favorite best bass players in the world. Phil is the goat on that stage.
I saw this performance on some random cable channel way back in the day and have casually thought about it for almost 20 years not knowing who anyone was and not even sure it actually existed
We just removed mid-break commercials on this. Thanks for watching and pointing it out. Look out for more Jammy's videos popping up in the near future!! #Claypool2020
2:28 I was like, Cool! What pedal just got turned on? Then I saw Marco's hands moving faster than a wipperworl's ass and realized that's no pedal... lol
Amazing! That was an epic version of the song. Gotta love the sitar. 3 bass legends, incredible drummer & just as good keyboard.....this is a jam you don't want to miss. Has to feel good for Phil rocking out with these musicians. 80 years old and going strong. Les is always taken it to the next level. Would love to see this ensemble live. More sitar!!! Who's going to Dee's Dinner? Me! ....she's awesome.
I remember watching this video on demand on the old channel HDNet. I also recall the Disco Biscuits with Travis Tritt playing House Dog > Honkey Tonk History > House Dog. I went to a real D’s Diner in Wilkes Barre and immediately remembered this vid. Sweet lineup of musicians!
😳. I remember being at the jammys for this and it was big because of everyone kind of hope/hyping up that trey would show up for like a mini Phish type of reunion of sorts since they were on hiatus at that time . This was just legendary amidst experiencing the pure physical vibration of life. Wow what a night. Thanks to whoever made this gem available. My phone is melting🤩🥳
Aside from the obvious low end legends onstage, Marco absolutely ripped his solo!! To put him on a stage with so much mojo and he still shines right on through, he has got to be my favorite keys player around
Man I love but it feels like everyone kinda got put on the spot with this one, especially Mike's first solo. It felt like he was really struggling to find the groove of the tune. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to say I could do better or even get close to what he was able to pull off but it kinda felt like it was Les's way or the highway with this jam.
Les is way overrated. He's good at what he does but if you need to play anything that doesn't sound like Primus he's not the guy to go to. Oysterhead was a train wreck because Trey can find the pocket with Les.
Les is damn good, but I'd argue phil and Mike both own numerous cracks in MSG after all the bombs they dropped in that building. That's their stage to vibrate
I’ ve been to that diner. believe I had a grilled cheese. A little over 20 years ago. Unless it was another diner. I do not know how many diners in Sebastipol
Phil was the favorite bassist of your favorite bassists. Thank you Phil for landing your spaceship and dropping your bombs on this earth. RIP
Indeed!
Phil was the bomb. To see him on stage with Les is a total blast.
More= Gabby Lala (Sitar), Marco Benevento (Keys), and Joe Russo (drums). Household names in their own right. PUT SOME RESPECT ON THAT

Of those three I only know of joe russo
