Thela Hun Ginjeet is one hard core song from one hardcore band. Jimi Hendrix saw King Crimson play in 1969 and proclaimed them to be the greatest band on Earth.
There's Fripp's story of some dude resplendidly all in white, with his arm in a cast, coming backstage to shake Fripp's hand, which turned out to be Hendrix, who, (according to the drummer's sister who was sittng at JH's table at the time) was juming up and down during their set and, yeah, proclainmg them to be the greatest band in the world. A slightly better reception than from Eric Burdon, who heckled KC at their first LA gig.
@@milttrugood4817 Well, truth-be-told, Jimi wanted to play with everyone, and supposedly had made overtures to a lot of people, particularly Miles Davis and Robert Fripp (there is a story about ELP, but that's just a myth). But he also had a reputation for not following through. He was definitely "on the prowl" at the time of his death, since The Experience had broken up, and he was absolutely in love with King Crimson and Fripp, and Fripp similarly of Hendrix. I think there's a good chance had he lived, they would have at least gotten together to give it a go... but given Jimi's notorious lack of "Discipline", and Fripp's notorious hard-headedness, one does wonder how well it would have worked. It did for Joe Zawinul and Jaco for a number of years, but I could see Jimi storming out of a Fripp rehearsal after 20 minutes too, and never returning! Unfortunately, we will never know.
@@PickpocketJones Yeah 'Jerry...' is so Tony Levin. I think I remember him even confirming that is some gear mag (Bass Player or whatever) back in the day.
I tried to show my brother Elephant Talk and he was like "I can't listen to this, it just reminds me of Primus. I was like dude, you literally have it backwards, come on!
The xylophone highlights the gamelan origin of this music, I like it. Les Claypool has carved out his niche in the music industry and he rules it . Claypool and any act associated with him is always worth a listen!
Totally badass. I've seen Crimson perform this live several times, but this version is really something special. Love the sax and the vibes....and the costumes.
Same same. Saw KK at the Greek in Berkeley back in the eighties and they'd already started to swing far off the album version. This is much closer, at least in the chorus, which makes sense as Les and the gang are doing a cover.
Les is like a modern Tiny Tim, but more talented. His knowledge of vintage music is mind boggling, he can just knock out complex prog rock classics like a piece of machinery.
i met Fripp breifly once in mid 1980s at a guitar masterclass type thing,... he talks so quietly. saw Levin play with Gabriel, but never seen Primus. I suppose it's more likely that would meet Fripp as he lives in Dorset, which is the county next to mine.
Les Claypool i the greatest bass player ever! This version of a King Crimon tune is awesome! Even if the original version version with Tony Levin on Stick was a revolution!!
I'm p;d enough to remember the days in the mid eighties when Les and the guitarist from Primus would walk down Telegraph Ave in Berkeley playing their guitars. He sure evolved way past the Primus days.
I think Levin actually played bass on Thela Hin Ginjeet, not stick. But either way, he's a master of both, and Claypool does him proud on this version :)
Holy fuck is that Skerik? I remember from his Sadhappy and Tuatara days in Seattle! That dude can totally pull off a Jimi Hendrix solo all by himself on sax.
That segue riff at the end of the bass solo was a master stroke! So spot on. I've seen Crimson do this live and Tony Levin is no slouch, but I love what Claypool did with it. Half sober sounding "carnival barker" that he IS. ;) Thanks for that description DarkeningSkies1, Claypool seems to love the carnival vibe and that nailed it.
King Crimson is 80's rock band. The lead guitarist is Adrian Belew who did recordings with David Bowie and others. One King Crimson song you may want to listen to is "Heart Beat".
You are a good man, King Crimson 1969 (in the court of the crimson king), with Greg lake as lead singer, from Emerson Lake and Palmer., for me was the best King Crimson ever, when they hired John Wetton as vocal singer and bass, the magic was gone, Fripp took over pretty much and with Bill Bruford, (He played with Genesis in Seconds out 70', also with YES, etc) they started the new King Crimson era, Levin and Belew belong to the new generation, I stay with original in 1969 "In the Court of the Crimson King". Aloha. Peace and love.
Trying to play Crimson is dangerous . . . which is why not many can pull it off . . Primus does here. A song over 30 years old still sounds daring and fresh . . .
Jesus .H. Christ!!! This is fekkin awesome...never heard of les Claypool until finding this.. Just totally mind -blowing.....I wonder if Mr Fripp has seen this??????
Great cover and STILL NO King Crimson in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That just prove what a joke the R'nR HoF is . . . just a Corporate Shrine to mediocrity and compliance.
Have you ever been to to RR Hall of Fame? The place is a joke, not only the physical building and exhibits, but the entire concept of a Hall of Fame for a music genre is ludicrous. Another point, they inducted Joan Jett for Christs sake.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Primus recently touring on a cover of the entire Willy Wonka OST or Rush's "Farewell To Kings", but if either them (or I guess the Fancy Band too) decided to cover KC's "Discipline" in it's entirety and tour on that, then I'm thinkin we might be talking.

I came here to hear a good saxophone solo. I didn't expect the spanish inquisition.

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Kenny Bauer 👅👅👅

very Zappa, also

Nice job of "emulating" the dynamic guitar-distortion stylings of the FRIPP/Belew era Krimso with a sax!
A Great tribute to a great bassist Tony Levin.
They totally made it theirs. I was prepared to sneer, but I was an idiot. Bravo, men.

He wasn’t up there alone! So let’s give some credit to those other musicians on stage.
Because he’s playing a king crimson song makes him educated?
Jesus. What a low bar for you.
It's funny cos the original sounds more like a LC/Primus song than it does a KC song! Both are excellent in their insanity.
Do you have to use initials. I don't understand
