What an inspiring testimony. When I hear people dismiss this lifestyle, saying that it's "too restrictive" and that they'd rather "enjoy life" and eat whatever they want, my usual response to that is 'obesity' is restrictive. 'Type-2 diabetes' is restrictive. 'Heart disease' is restrictive. How can you "enjoy" life with those ailments? This woman is clearly enjoying life. Congratulations to her and whoever else she inspires. Keep up the great work, Dr. McDougall.

On methotrexate for 23 years, I fully empathize with Paula's testimony. A bite from a poisonous brown recluse spider and physicians "treatments" led to 17 years of open flesh wounds about my ankles, 49 surgeries to repair them and fingers deformed by rheumatoid arthritis and a host of co-morbidities. Only after embracing the McDougal vegan food practice (and not even at 100%), my wounds finally closed in 2013 as 120 lbs. released from my frame; now OFF ALL MEDICATION. Were all ailing people made aware of and practiced the McDougal way the pharmaceutical industrial complex would be a whole lot less profitable. Like Paula said, "Thank you, John and Mary McDougal." :-D !!!

Do you think the Mcdougall diet can help ankylosing spondylitis? A lot of people say starch is what causes AS and that the diet makes AS worse. I've never seen a testimony of someone with AS do this diet only ppl with RA. I'm hesitant but if you could help me out it could help me stop hesitating and just do the diet. Thanks.

Milk does the SAME thing to me! Years ago my joints were beginning to hurt and ache in my fingers, and I'd always had joint issues in my knees esp too. When I went vegetarian it did not change. Two people in my family and two others that I knew had arthritis and had surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome and told me I was going to be just like them. But when I went vegan, the pain was gone within a week. I KNEW it was milk!
A few weeks ago I did an experiment where I partook of a little cheese daily to see what would happen. Again, that SAME pain came back in my finger joints! Stopped with the cheese pretty quick (because the pain is unbearable) and now its gone again.
Glad for her that she found the answer. Most mainstream doctors work for the pharma companies, not us.

Ohh my gosh, she made me tear up. I can totally relate, not having the energy and strength like that. Just pain, endless pain. I can remember the first uninterrupted bicycle ride to my vegetable garden, which is 10 miles from my home. Victoryyyyyyy!!! You keep jogging with a big smile on your face, Paula. It's the greatest feeling, just knowing you're able to do it!

Dairy is by far the worst food for humans.. I have seen it over and over again.. Not that meat is great either but I always say to people if there is one thing you should quit or at least look into it is dairy (cows milk).. a food that no other animal consumes that is not designed for anything but a baby calf.
